vinyl layering hack
Переглядів 2452 роки тому
something I saw in a crafting group that I thought would help others layer vinyl. Layering more detailed designs used to frustrate me since I could never get it centered. This had made my life so much easier from layering to positioning vinyl on bigger projects like yard signs.

What do u use for adhesive?
@yaranico9052 they are xray markers so I leave that up to the technologist. When I did xray, we didn't have cute markers. We just wrapped in silk tape.
Where can I find the letters? Do you sell them? I've been looking everywhere.
@@snowbettybc you can get lead letters from EZXray on etsy
Is that your teapot going off in the background?
Where can I find the paws svg. Thanks.
I found a free picture on the internet & uploaded it to my Cricut to create the SVG.
Thank you so much for sharing your information with us. I’m about to graduate from the program and wanted to make sentimental markers for my classmates and your videos are really helpful ❤
What is the glu you use to attach it to the badge?
I was using Loctite superglue. Recently, I started using Loctite Power Grab. Get more for my money & seems to have a stronger hold so far. E6000 never seemed to cure for me & I could pop my magnets off after they sat 2 weeks curing.
Any tips on when transferring the sticker to the acrylic it doesn’t strip the color off the design?
In this video, I didn't use stickers. These are made using vinyl so it won't strip the color.
Are your stickers regular or 3D stickers?
These are flat stickers. I guess these would be considered vinyl stickers that I bought.
Hey! Thank you for this tutorial. How do i make if I want to attach string to the set ?
Just add sting & do a layer of resin over it & let it cure
Great video... Can u email..me specific supplies to make ARRT Luz
Great video...learned a lot. I never thought to put it back under the light from the front.
So very informative!! Thank you so much! Quick question for you. How much resin would you say you go through when making these? Im new to UV resin so the pricing/product usage is still new to me 😊
Honestly, I've never measured it. I use more on chunky glitters. I tend to check etsy to see what others are charging & ask several friends if they would pay it for whatever item. Certain price points do better than others. I usually charge $15 for simple shears with just glitter. Clip shears or certain vinyl additions or names added then I charge $20. Never had issue selling them for either price but I do work in a trauma hospital.
LOVE this! Where did you get the SVG?
I made it. I just found a flag pic I liked & sliced a circle a bit smaller than the acrylic. I have a video on how I made the blue line design.
What type of silicone mat are you using is it better than the flat silicone?
I wouldn't say it's better. It's just a silicone trivet from Amazon. I think it's a little easier to move these than a thin silicone mat.
Where do you get the vinyl stickers?
The designs for these acrylics come with them when you purchase acrylic. I keep parts I want or tweak them if needed since I prefer to have more glitter visible.
Very nice work. When you use them, which side is facing x-ray tube? the one with inverted lead letters or the other with decoration? By the way they look so cute :D
Thanks. I usually reverse the letters so the design is the front of them(facing tube) but you can make however the xray tech prefers. Can also add a R/L to front.
Deburring tools are awesome. Got mine off ali express $3
Love your channel! there aren't many videos on UA-cam explaining in detail like you do. Thanks for uploading I will try to make my very first markers soon wish me luck 🥲 hello from Chicago
Glad the videos are helpful. 😊 You'll do fine. Just have fun! I hope to do more videos soon. Still in middle of remodel that's been going on almost a year.
@Bossy Chick Designs thank you! Do you remember where you got the mold at? I want to buy it 🥲
I got that mold from aliexpress.com. the store name is You DifferentCc...this should be the link a.aliexpress.com/_mLKsjLQ
Hi, how do they stick to your badges, or wherever you carry them?
Techs use different things. Some use tacky putty or they make something called radhesive. I come from the days of taping markers since none of mine were cute then. I made a set for me but I work in CT now so I don't use markers.
Hiya, just confused and wondering why you don't use personal protective equipment when handling lead? Would it be a hazard?
Lead is hazardous if you eat it. I always wash my hands when finished a project & I don't plan on eating it. But if you feel the need to wear PPE, go for it.
how long it cure?
It will depend on your lamp. Lamp I had took about 3 mins to fully cure my resin.
Oooo! I've never thought to use acrylic blanks to make them! I just use resin in molds but that can sometimes be a 2 day process waiting for layers to cure! Will definitely be trying these. Fellow tech here too and just started studying for my CT exam!
Acrylic blanks make a cute addition for xray markers. I took my CT registry in 2017. Thought they gave me wrong test since it felt like xray registry.. 😆 ..Good luck when u take it!
Hi! Are both sides of the blank flat ?
Yes. They just have a protective cover on both sides that you peel off.
Liked. Would love to see the reel with video. Awesome job!
Deburring Tool does work better for me
What is ur resin called?
I used Limino UV resin from Amazon in the videos I've done so far.
Hello, I am trying to get the markers buy I need specific lead markers. Can anyone help me plz
The actual name. I am a resin artist and would love to make these.
What exactly are looking for? I use acrylic shapes which I buy from Zindee, resin molds or even stickers for the shapes. I was buying lead letter from Universalmedicalinc.com but I found a seller on etsy ezxray which is better.
Does the letters have to be metal or can they be acrylic?
Letter for xray markers need to be metal or lead. Metal is radiopaque in general so it will stop xrays from passing through leaving letters behind. Lead is most radiopaque metal. Some techniques can burn out some metals. If you sell them, I suggest letting your buyers know what materials you are using for letters.
I love them, but I’d never be able to make sure I had them in the field, but out of the anatomy with how those L & R are hidden😂 I’m a smaller marker lady. But just so you know, regular metal letters from Amazon show up in X-ray.
I'm a rad tech. Any metal shows up but lead is the best so they don't burn out due to some techniques. Marker sizes range. I've seen bigger ones than I make @ work.
These are great!
When the svg doesn’t come with the design or when you want to create a design like you did, how do you go about in sizing? I’ve been ordering 2’ acrylic blanks but in some I want to create my own design but I don’t know how to size it? Help lol I’m starter in badge reels. 😬
If you buy from Zindee, you will get 1 layer which is the size of the acrylic. You can use that as a template for the design. Always leave a bit of acrylic showing on outer edge so resin has something to hold onto. Using the circle as example, my acrylic is 2", I create an smaller circle @ 1.95" so it's a bit smaller than acrylic & use that to "slice" area I want to keep. Next time I'm off, I'll make a design tutorial. Most my designs are pretty basic cuz I can't draw. I generally use something I have & use slice or weld to create what I want.
have you ever made markers with a waterslide instead of a sticker?
I haven't used waterslide for that but if I did I would do it the same as a sticker. I would wait a bit after applying waterslide to resin just to make sure it's all dry before adding next layer of resin.
Which overhead camera thingy do you have?
I bought an adjustable tripod for a cell phone from Amazon. It's ok. I wish the base was wider just so I could get it out of frame sometimes but it works. I want a better set up eventually.
@@bossychickdesigns4825 How did you attach it to the ceiling?
@@buddysmith7080 it's not attached to ceiling. The arm is about a foot long & bendable so I can position it any way I need it.
@@bossychickdesigns4825 Oh, of course. Thanks
Just watched your video and I loved it. I did subscribe. I'm an xray tech too and wanted to learn how to make markers.
Thanks! I love making xray markers even though I haven't taken an xray in about 9 years since I've been in CT. Happy crafting! 😊
What glue do you use to glue the topper on the badge reel!?
I use Loctite superglue. I've tried e6000 & it never really cured. I could easily pop acrylic off so I changed to superglue. I do let them sit a few days before I seal in bags to let any fumes dissipate. Otherwise, I would get a cloudy look on backs of toppers.
Thanks for this, much appreciated! :)
I'm so happy that I came across this hack. Figured other would benefit from it.
so pretty🥰🥰🥰
This is kay:) I want to make one later😍
I'd love to see what you create! Happy crafting!
They turned out great, I'm going to try to make mine this way! Thanks again for being so quick to experiment and post 💚💚
No problem. I'm still learning all the stuff UV resin can do so it was fun trying it out. Hope I get to see what you create. Happy crafting!
Thank you!!! Can't wait to try this out!
I also posted one the other day using the polyester tape. I actually prefer the tape I got off Amazon but parchment works of it's what you have on hand.
loved this!! Thanks!!!
Thanks.
Newbie here…Is resin not self leveling?
It does want to self level. Most of us will spread it around to make process happen faster. It's also why it will drip over side of acrylic sometimes if there's an excess of resin. Heat will make the resin a bit thinner so it might overflow a bit if there's too much resin as it gets warm from UV lamp. Not enough resin & you end up with a divit in your coating. I put something to protect finished back so clean up is easier from any spill over.
Thank u for sharing. I'm just starting to do badge reels and keychains
Happy to help! Happy crafting!

Hi! Just discovered your channel while searching for diy X-Ray marker videos, thank you for sharing your crafts! Have you made any with paper/stickers without molds? My co-worker has some cute ones that look like paper covered in clear resin but very sturdy. I'm not sure if they're laminated before being coated? Anywho, if you get into those, I'd love to see a how-to!
Can you send me a picture of them? I can possibly figure it out.
@@bossychickdesigns4825 Yes! I have pictures and took a short video haha! But it won't let me post it here, do you have an email?
