Peaceful Sunrise Oil Painting
Been a while since I've done a painting in one sitting but here it is. Nothing to write home about really, just some interesting color choices. Oil on 6x12" gallery wrapped canvas.

Lake Ontario Rough Water

The video's short because it was honestly an after thought. My reference came from my own photos of lake Ontario, this one particular was photographed early December 2023.
Tonal Cloud Painting
Переглядів 942 місяці тому
Not much to talk about with this one, I just wanted to try another limited palette cloud painting using titanium white, raw umber, and indigo. As a side note; it looks like I'm painting on a 4inch canvas, but i assure you it's just the camera angle doing that:). Oil on 8x10" gallery wrapped canvas.

I think what I like best about these misty scenes is - for the most part I can paint them in one sitting, there's really no waiting for layers to dry. The brown tone I covered the canvas with at the beginning is an acrylic burnt sienna burnt umber mix, after that it's all oils. Oils on 6x12" gallery wrapped canvas.
Small Lake Ontario Painting in Oils

This one put up a fight for some reason. It's funny how sometimes they seem to simply flow of your brush, and other times they don't🤔. I went with my somewhat standard palette here of titanium white, indigo, Prussian blue, cad yellow, cad orange, magenta, and burnt umber. Oil on 9x12 gallery wrapped canvas.
Lake Wave Painting

I'm starting to get a little more comfortable with the colors I see on Lake Ontario, I haven't completely got them yet but I'm close. I used an acrylic yellow ocher to stain the canvas first, but after that I once again relied on a very limited palette of titanium white, cad yellow light, cad orange, burnt umber, and indigo. Oil on 9x12" gallery wrapped canvas.
Small 8x10" Oil Painting

For the foreseeable future I'm changing to smaller paintings, my thinking is that they may be an easier sell, time will tell if my thinking is correct. If this painting looks somewhat a little familiar it's because I copied one of my own, most likely something I'll continue to do for a little while. That first layer of very wet paint you see at the beginning is just a yellow ocher acrylic stain...
Seascape Painting in Oils
Переглядів 2574 місяці тому
I had absolutely no intensions of painting the Seagull, even though it was actually in my reference photo, but as the painting progressed it was clear to me that the Seagull had to be included. I first drew in the basic shape very lightly in pencil, once I was happy with it I simply filled it in with a Lamp black and indigo mix, that way if the graphite bled into the paint you wouldn't see it. ...
Prepping a Wood Panel
Переглядів 2094 місяці тому
I sometimes paint on canvas paper or custom cut sizes of cotton canvas. If I like the painting enough I'll mount it to either a wooden panel, like in this clip, or a piece of hardboard. The process is the same either way.
Stormy Seascape in Oils.

I haven't had a lot of time to paint lately, with the weather being good it's been nice to be outside, plus I'm prepping for an art show coming up in a week from now. Still, the urge is there, but instead of getting wrapped up in a large painting I kept it small so I wouldn't get overly sidetracked. It looks black & white, but it's really blue and white; titanium white, phthalo blue, burnt umbe...
Crashing Wave Painting in Oils
Переглядів 2564 місяці тому
What bothers me the most about this painting is I lost interest because it took me too long to finish. I know it's not a race, but I have a short attention span, so if it starts getting upwards of seven days on one project I can easily lose interest, this one is about 14 days:(. Having said all that there are parts that I really like, like behind the crashing wave, I managed to capture the murk...
Distant Mountain Painting in Oils

Just a very quick video I threw together as an afterthought. I used a very limited palette here of titanium white, ultramarine blue, indigo, and cadmium orange. Just in case you're somewhat new to color theory, orange is the complementary color to blue, mixing the two together gives you the dark tones. Oil on 20x40inch deep edge canvas.

You may have noticed in some of my other videos that I don't always start my paintings in the traditional manor, meaning starting with what's furthest away and working forward. The only reason I sometimes work in reverse is when I'm overthinking things, I get more concerned with whats' going to be happening in the foreground that I just want to get on with it and worry about the background late...
Up Close Wave Painting in Oils

I tried this painting a number of weeks ago but failed miserably, but I liked the picture enough to try again. This time around I threw caution to the wind and just went for it, even going as far as trying in on a fairly large canvas. I began filming this painting as an actual video but it's too much editing for me, at least this time around, so I settled for the photo time-lapse instead. Very ...
Milford Sound Oil Painting

Mountains/hills are not my forte, but when I saw the photo I figured it was worth the try, plus there's the great sense of depth I wanted to try and capture. I tried a new technique of layering in the clouds, I've never really done that before, in other words; I painted a layer, let it dry and then paint another, it worked nicely. I'm crediting Jackson Winter on Unsplash for the photo. Oil on 1...

My standard palette is titanium white, cad yellow light, cad orange, alizarin crimson, and burnt umber. For my blue tones I alternate between ultramarine blue, indigo, and cobalt blue. Glad it helped you.
