My MIL rescued a baby moose who was abandoned by her mother. She gave moose kisses, too. They act a lot like a big dog but are extremely large and dangerous wild animals. The moose was released to the wild once she was full-grown, as even an accidental kick or stomp could have been disastrous for my then infant son and I gave my in-laws the ultimatum of get rid of the moose or your grandson can't come here anymore.

Much like the Northern Plains of America and Western Canada, I would love to see Bison being returned to long lost stretches of open migratory lands for their formation of larger herds again. Wouldn't that be amazing to go someday in about 80 or so years, to a stretch of protected Prairie from Texas to maybe North Dakota, just a long 100 mile wide zone free of Farms and Ranches and Human towns. Just open prairie with bison and deer and a few small bands of Tribal Native Americans following the herds for a few miles to keep in touch with the hunting techniques of their ancestors? And wouldn't that be just awesome to see as many as two or even three million individual bison making up those extensive migratory herds again? I think that would be. I do think in our modern world, we have lost something we can't really imagine. But try. Try to imagine the land and rivers that the explorers Lewis and Clark saw. What that must have been like? Rugged and treacherous for certain. But untouched wilderness and wildlife in huge numbers unconstrained by civilization and progress. This is my idea of how to Make America Great Again.

Captive moose die within 7 years due to a cobalt and copper deficiency. Minnie and Morty the Washington State Moose died in 1994 of this. Minnie died first, was necropsied and the deficiency discovered but it was too late to save Morty who died a week after Minnie. Morty btw was the moose seen in the opening credits of Northern Exposure.

If I was lucky enough to have a moose nibbling on my head, I wouldn’t push it away. It would feel spiritual. Anyway thanx for your kind spirit, you lucky boy. Bless you
