My husband Jeff has a full time job as a civil engineer and I (Alicia) am a stay at home mom. We have been slowly becoming more self sufficient over the past few years and have grown increasingly more aware of what we are feeding our children. We believe it is important to teach our boys where their food comes from and to learn basic life skills. We do nearly everything together as a family and enjoy the adventure of continuously working and educating our minds to further better our family and to learn vital skills that are becoming forgotten from previous generations.

Planting Green Beans - Green, Yellow, and Purple Bush Beans
I liked the idea of using cinder blocks. I plan to use the same for the foundation. I have few questions 1) Do you think using rebars is essential? Or it can be done without using rebars 2) Instrad of using a wet pour concrete, is it gonna be easy if we use a dry pour concrete and use the mist to wet it? 3) Are you going to use 6x4 or 4x4 lumber to put on top of that foundation? Eagerly waiting for the next video on how did you go about the walls, other greenhouse materials used?
Great video, thanks. Greetings from Greenville, NC
Hi, what is the wall material called?
T-111
You all work well together. No fights. Some couples can’t assemble ikea furniture much less a custom greenhouse
Very good job
terrible this loud music
Where did you get the roofing and strips from?
Wow! That was impressive! You go girl!💪
Good job🎉😊
In the past I've only butchered 2-3 and had family over or gave one to my parents and brother then one for my family! I plan on butchering 7 this time around but don't plan on keeping in the freezer for a whole year, do you think the freezer zip lock bags and freezer paper would do just fine for a few months? Or should i shrink wrap?
Did you ever try this?
@@luckysavagetv4356 I did but haven't had them in the freezer long enough to know. ate a chicken that was in the freezer for about 6 weeks that was good Also couldn't get the whole chicken in the zip lock bag had to cut in half
Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Hi, like your educational videos a lot. I mean not only about building but also about catching squirrels! I found your channel because I want to build a greenhouse myself (in fact my husband LOL) in our garden in France, we are originally from the Netherlands. Your greenhouse is 12 by 16? Looking great and big. Greetings from France 🇫🇷/The Netherlands 🇳🇱
Hello, I hope you are okay💔 I really miss your funny vlogs catching chicks 😂🥹🫶
I planted Morning glorys 20 years ago and have been trying to get rid of them. They took over everwhere
Same thing happen to me!!! I curse the day I bought that morning glory seed packet 20 + years ago!!
Very nice!
Green house is coming along nicely. How has the weather been where you live? I get worried about my YT friends & family tht re being hit by all these storms. TFS! Blessings to you! ✝🕊🙏🏼💖
Thank you!! Weather was very cold and rainy for a long time. However, winter was not as harsh as it was in past few years. I am finally getting around to working on another video soon! I love doing this but try and prioritize family time and things have been busy! You are so kind always. We are doing well just busy with sports etc. Hope you are doing well too! ♥

I appreciate it!! Counting down the days until spring so I can use this beauty! LOL
Looking great. Love how you work so well together
I appreciate that! Thank you Sarah!
Very good
Thank you!
Keep the content coming. Love the small family channels!
Thank you! That's great to hear I appreciate it!
You need a robbing screen for each hive. It will help prevent the robber bees and yellow jackets from getting into the hive. You should look at a storage box called the HIV Butler. It will do everything you need for storage. Good luck.

Yes! Thank you! Yeah this is taking awhile but with life and kids we are doing best we can. Will be worth it for sure!

Thank you!
Better luck next year. Must mite treat summer after necter flow and reduce entrance in fall or they will get robbed by there strong neighbors.
Thank you we appreciate it!
The green house is really coming along guys. Looks Great! Love that the boys are trying to trap a squirrel 😂. Did they catch one? Cheers Deb & Dan.
Really appreciate it! Thank you. Ha the boys thought they caught one over night and it somehow got out because their sticks were knocked over the next day. Never a dull moment!
It always stinks when you lose all of your bees and have to start all over again. But at least you have all of your frames of comb which will give you a excellent start in the spring. We all have our setbacks in beekeeping but I'm sure you will come through this with even more knowledge and perseverance to be successful this coming season. Thanks for sharing.
Really appreciate the kind words. Those frames of comb will certainly help jump start the new bees we get next spring. Have high hopes for next years bee journey! It's incredible how much you learn from the first year beekeeping. Have so much respect for those little creatures.
Sorry to hear, very likely caused by mites.
Thank you. Could be true. But strangely enough the first hive that we found all dead had no mites from a recent sugar roll test.
oh my god I'm so so sorry to hear this :( I was thinking about getting some bees for our start up farm but the more I try to research the more involved it gets!! I hope things are on the up and up for you.
are yellow jackets like a type of wasp?
@@theorganised_farmgal Thank you I really appreciate it! Bees are complex little creatures but they are mostly self sufficient. It seems overwhelming but with a good mentor you can pick it up quickly and find out they really don't need your help that much. And yes yellow jackets are a nasty wasp. They are predatory and attack honey bees.
@@keepinitfarmy7298 There's a lovely Australian homesteading couple @Diane and Samson who keep bees so I've also been watching all of their videos
@@theorganised_farmgal Will have to check them out! Thank you!
You should reduce the smaller hive into a nuc if you have one. Losing a hive happens to us all
Thank you really appreciate it! I wish we were able to salvage some bees but unfortunately we lost both boxes at once. Would have loved to be able to perform a split. There's always next year! Our mentor said you're not true beekeeper until you lost all your hives and still want to keep going. Definitely a let down for end of season but we won't give up.
find a different mentor those bee died from varroa mites. you'll never be successful if you can't tell what they died from.
I think you treated too late.
You just might be right. Next year we plan on treating in warmer weather for sure.
Did you treat for mites in summer? Most likely caused by Varroa mites. I treat my bees for mites in July.
No we didn't treat in the summer. We did a sugar roll test later in summer learning from our mentor and found one box mite free and the other with a few. The box that was mite free died shortly into the cold season quickly so we are thinking it may have been a chemical kill. Not 100% certain.
If you have a alfalfa field close by a farmer could have sprayed for weavels. If so next year when the farmer sprays you can shut your bees in for a day. It kinda late for that tho. Sucks bee keeping is a big investment just to lose the most important part at the end of the season. I kept feeders on all the way until it started hitting freezing temps for a few hours for a week straight. So definitely doubt it was feeders. I would be curious about a heavy pesticide kill like that and the health of the comb. They say wax can absorb chemicals. Some pesticides may just fade away I'm really not sure. Ask your mentor, ask around.
Nice 230sub like
Thank you!
I’m soooo sorry you lost your bees 🥺🥺 I hope that 2023 brings you better luck, good health and I hope it will be prosperous for you guys ❤️
Thank you. Really appreciate that. We are looking forward to the spring time to give it another go.
Oh no, I am sorry to hear you were in the hospital Alicia! I teared up when you guys looked at the hives and found they were dead. That's a shame you lost them all. I was so excited for you guys from the last bee update. Like Jeff said thees next year. Never give up. TFS! Blessings to you and your family!🕊✝🙏🏼💖
Thank you Cynthia. Truly means a lot. I had a bad case of pneumonia and was told I am lucky to be alive. Jeff was amazing during that time helping out. We were so bummed about the bees but are really looking forward to the spring season. We have grown a newfound respect for beekeepers!
@@keepinitfarmy7298 Pneumonia is nothing to mess around with. Back in 2018 I ended up with Pneumonia in both lungs plus a collapsed lung. I almost died. 2 months later I was back in the hospital with Pneumonia. Since I get Pneumonia so easily my lungs are so scared I have to be on O2 24/7. I am Glad you are doing better. Jeff is amazing and so are you my friend. TFS! Blessings to you and your family!🕊✝🙏🏼💖
Very nice
Did you check every single frame with bees?
Off camera we did. We went through each frame and set them in our chest freezer for a few days to kill any wax moths or hive beetles. Fortunately, we have a bunch of frames ready for spring that have drawn comb. Will give them a great head start.
