Hi there, I am Markus Bak. I live and work as a musician in Hamburg, Germany.
1947 Gibson L 50 Review
this is my old L 50. It's a nice one: easy to play, a little bit punchy and versatile. A worthwhile alternative to the unlike more expensive L 5.

A little Jam on my new 1948 Gibson L 50. Maybe it is a couple of years older, hard to tell. Gibson's records are incomplete. This one plays really nice though, the action is pretty low. you can't almost put a stamp between the strings and the fretboard. I'm glad to have this und leave it exactly as is.

exploring my 1967 Fender Telecaster with blend-wiring. This was the first wiring of the so-called Nocaster 1950-1952. The 1st position is the Neck-Pickup with reduced treble only. The 2nd Position ist the Neck-Pickup with no treble-reduction. In the 3rd Position the "Tone-Controle" is a blend controle. Turned full way up only the bridge PU is active. If you turn it back you add the Neck-PU. The...

It´s always so a great fun to play the blues. I have listened a lot to T Bone Walker. He always has been and still will be a great inspiration for me.

This is a little chord-solo piece I´ve been working on for a couple of weeks. I decided to keep it as simple as possible. Nothing too fancy. It´s my Schnoor CC and the Universal Audio Dream 65. I love this pedal. It makes recording much more simple without loosing anything.

Markus Bak "All Of Me" - 1947 Gibson ES 150 , 1957 Fender Princeton
Sounds gorgeous! 🎶
I have the same guitar.......and I agree it has a great sound ....i`ve dated the headstock as 1935 -1939 ....but.........that seems to be an open question
L50s are wonderful, and probably underrated. Mine is a 1960 model, with truss rod. It really is the affordable version of an L5.
Books of interest: "Kalamazoo Gals: A story of Extraordinary Women and Gibson's Banner Guitars of WW II" John Thomas "Gibson Guitars: 100 Years of an American Icon" Walter Carter. Both available from AMAZON. at around $22 USD each.
Does the guitar have a "fon" number (factory order number) stamped in ink ? Likely the guitar has a "hidden" truss rod. Very nice guitar, I owned a 1946 L-50, bought in 1965. I wish I had not sold it.
I read about hidden truss rods, but I thought they were only on the higher-end models. Did your L50 have one?
@@markusbakmusic I don't know if my guitar had one.., it was "hidden" : ) It was a fantastic guitar in all original condition. Bought in 1965 in Salinas, California at the California House of Music. for the princely sum of $100.. and that included the mint condition original tweed case. All the original paperwork and receipt/invoice, and manufacturer's literature an tags were as sold the original owner who bought it in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. At the time I was playing Blue Grass and some blues. My small band laughed at me for buying an arch top, so I sold it. Stupid. I learned a lesson, buy what you like and ignore others. My L-50 was a 1946, I was born in.... 1946. I am 78 and 4 days old !
@@jeffhildreth9244 thanks for your story. I'm sure you still have one or two nice guitars ;) by the way, happy Birthday!
@@markusbakmusic Thanks !
You are quite the old school archtop afficianado. 😊 Nice video, playing & history lesson.
Working man's L5 and thats cool to me!!!!!
that's true, maybe I will change the title
Beautiful guitar.
Verdict after 4 months?
aa awesome guitar for that price, maybe a little chunky
I made a partscaster with select parts and it is a great, versatile guitar with great intonation and stable tuning. i love it. Fralin pickups are great!
Keep that shredding up my guy
Charlie Christians',P-13's,P-90's,all great p'ups. Nice playing.
I’ve made a couple parts guitars, after I spent money for the quality parts, I could have bought a new, nicer guitar. I had fun, but it’s not a money saving project.
I'm addicted to building bolt-on neck guitars. I enjoy building them as much or more than I enjoy playing them. I keep the good ones and sell the others at loss or even give them away in some cases. Then, you end up with a bunch of random parts and can play Legos with your builds. I tell my wife to think of it as gambling or drinking, just with something to show for my efforts.
If you use a genuine Fender body and neck, then its value should hold up better than a guitar made from non-Fender parts. In any case, make it yourself and you get the guitar you want, in every respect.
It’s totally worth it - you end up with a unique guitar, made to your own specifications. But it probably won’t be entirely straightforward to assemble and it certainly won’t be cheap, if you want quality. Planning the build and sourcing the parts is a lot of fun in itself. And if you want to change something later, you already have something to use for your next project! There will be one 😉
That thing looks sick!
Great pickup! The guitar is superb, how much doest it cost ?
thanks a lot, I paid 4000 € for it. It's 100% handcrafted.
What was the total cost.
it's about 1300 Euro plus luthiers fretwork
@@markusbakmusic yikes
I'll never buy a bolt-on neck guitar from the store ever again after "building" two Strats, it was a lot of fun finding all the best components and I had two Brazilian rosewood necks built that are the heart of both guitars!. A '61 and a '66 style, one Olympic white, one 3TS.
I love builds like these. you pick every piece you like the most and get a guitar perfectly for ur needs. and its a joy if its finished and works just as you thought. love it!
How much was the total build cost?
about 1300 € including Pickups without some addtional luthier work, adjustments, frets etc
@@markusbakmusic sounds cheap for the perfect setup
Very nice gtr. Cheers ! Highly Highly recommend Glendale bridge and saddles - absolutely next level . Also Warmoth in Washington USA make telecaster bodies with stratocaster contours eliminating the bruised ribcage/numb picking forearm issue that may or may not plague players of a certain age group. Once again , yours is a lovely guitar. Have a great day .
YES. they are absolutely worth it! they can inspire more thought through depper connection because its all hand selected pieces for the guitar
nice english 2 😉🎉😎
Would love to see this same playing on a tele.
thanks for that idea, would be interesting
Your playing and your sound inspired me to buy one.Thanks.Greetings from Poland!
Amazing dynamics and great playing
Bravo!!! I would like to play like you, this is awesome!!!…( and I have a guitar like this 😯)
Nothing like playing mindless riffs. 👌🏼
oh y god that sounds insane, amazing wowowowo
Great playing mate. I have watched this video over and over and just don't get tired of it. Excellent work I've decided to start playing guitar and love the E special.
🙏
You dont need a Gibson to sound good
Sooooo nice! Thanks for sharing!
Sometimes I learn songs from youtube guitar lesson tutorials. If I need a capo I grab this guitar in the single pickup junior version. The neck doesnt delve into the body which keeps the upper fretboard notes available. At 7 pounds, its a lot more comfortable to weild than the usual 10 and 12 pound Les Pauls. I didnt anticipate to appreciate this versatility of this model as much as I do. Even in the single pickup version of this guitar, it has a great feel and tone. Seems unusual to me that these were only produced for a couple years and that they didnt become very popular. My only concern is the durability of the neck tenon
Very nice.
Really interesting sounds ! Thank you for sharing !
Really sweet music ! Thank you for sharing !
Thanks for this - I'm planning to check out 2 of these in my local (HK) Gibson stockist tomorrow and it's great to hear a demo that does a bit more than play up 'it's a rock beast' approach 🙂 Nothing against full on rocky style stuff but I play a lot of clean stuff as well as overdriven and this guitar clearly has more personality than some might think. Cheers.
That Fender Tele, Sounds Really Great, with that amp! .. 🤑🤩
Amazing. Gig you change the pots and bridge to?
yes, I did. The Bridge PU is a Lollar Special T. Fits well together
@@markusbakmusic i ment bridge, not bridge pickup 😀

Yes, these are great guitars!
Nice job😃
Sound really good, nice play! Was necessary to alter the existing cavity to accommodate the Lollar Charlie Christian?
yes indeed, I asked my luthier to do that for me.
Great tune, excellent playing and excellent guitars. I especially like the Schnoor.
