Thanks Dave, I bought the DJH cam chain tensioner years ago for my 08 KTM and it has worked flawlessly. I have noticed a little more cam chain rattle lately and decided to readjust and came back to your excellent instructional video.
Read the Manual first! All the KTMs coming from production have no issues - why is that? I had to learn the hard way too: The KTM hydraulic tensioner has no issues if it is mounted following the instructions of the KTM-Workshop manual. It is vital to "activate" the overlaying ratchet mechanism properly to keep sufficient chain tension without oil pressure. If you don´t do this the ratchet doesnt work (like in your video) and can be pushed back. With the proper installation i had no issues in 5 years Enduro. This occasionally includes the motor is pushed reverse, when you get stalled in a steep uphill. Never ever any issues. After a Motor revision we failed proper installation. The first uphill stall and steering chain jumped over. Valves blocked the Motor, so i did not try to start it and pushed home, did the correct procedure and as a result - no issues. I propose to follow official instructions and benefit from a perfect control on chain tension regardless of wear and motor temperature.

My bike is a 01 only has 14k miles on it at about 12ki started noticing a rattling noise coming from the bike happens around 4.5k people say it's the cct but do they really give out that early? One morning i noticed clear fluid leaking out from the front should i replace the cam chain or the tensioner i have no clue

when setting tension on manual tensioner, does the cam have at TDC or does it matter
Doesn't matter for the adjustment, but you have to check anyways that both cams are at TDC, not that they have slipped. The markings for correct TDC are seen here...freeride350.blogspot.ro/2014/06/ktm-timing-marks-for-cams.html
Hi sir just had a complete rebuild on my crf250r but ever since I've had trouble when I'm in fourth gear. Bike starts to rattle n shake feels like cam chain loose and rattling. I was wondering wat the best way to diagnose if this is beacause of cam chain. All the mechanics around here are useless n it's constantly costing me money to find no problems. Everything u Ve described in ur videos is what I'm experiencing

Cam chain tensioner keeps the cam chain under tension to reduce noise and to keep the cam chain from going slack and making excess noise
Hi Dave, I think this noise is due to a slack cam chain/ tensioner (Aprilia use a hydraulic tensioner). I would greatly appreciate your opinion.

I bought one and I am happy with it only comment I have is that it should be deliverd with the correct size allen key to adjust because I am from europe and din't have any that fit. I used a torx bit instead lol

Manual adjustable is the way to go you just have to keep an eye on it every so often ..it wont ever retract

The over turning forces talked about here are only present at start-up and shut down. Inertia greatly reduces the influence of these forces at speed (rpm) and stiction is easily overcome at just a few RPM, valve/cam action becomes much more linear The chain is never being pushed after start-up it is only pulled and that includes deceleration. Think about pushing your car, it's much harder to get it moving than it is to keep it moving.

would that say that if the chain is not fastened correctly the valves are not correctly indstilled more. Can these things incur? if that is the case`? The valves may begin and tick? The engine can start and use oil?

hmm in my opinion still the manual one is the best! both hydraulic and "automatic" is kinda maintenance free solution, if we see symptoms of wearing out we just swap them (kinda expensive solution)
