For all the haters that are gonna say what a trash rod... 300$ what garbage... this was 100% my fault, I had been fighting the fish for at least half hour before the rod broke we chased it into 130ft of water then back out to 200ft of water and I was exhausted. I had the reels drag locked a maxel 20 hybrid it has 30 lbs of drag and thumb on the spool im extremely surprised the 30lb floro leader...

    Nice video. I am wanting to pull the head on my 2003 Johnson 115 4 stroke (Suzuki branded as Johnson). Did you have to set the timing when you put it back together?

    • @fixitfishitflipit
      @fixitfishitflipit 13 днів тому

      @@danbarger4728 yes 100% you will need to set the timing look up the service manual for the year and model of the outboard and it will walk you through the entire removal and replacement process. Not sure about your year Suzuki but most Suzukis are upside down so to remove the cams to get the heads off you have to remove the entire power head.

    Nothing ever happens when it's under warranty it's when it goes off of warrantee the stuff happens when's the last time you put zinks in that motor it probably overheated from the corrosion because 400 hours you shouldn't lose a head gasket

    • @fixitfishitflipit
      @fixitfishitflipit Місяць тому

      It never overheated until the head gasket went. I bought it used for a really good deal was originally a pair and the other one had popped. Ran it hard for probably a year or 2 before it went.

    Hi there, I have been searching EVERYWHERE for the information your video was able to offer me. I was told by so many people that I needed to purchase a new steering housing assembly or run the risk of burning out the brand new control board I have purchased. I ran my multimeter against the current steering motor (12v Riptide) and it drew less than 2amps. Seeing as though I bought the control board because the main trolling motor was not getting enough power, I came to the conclusion that the steering motor will be fine. Thanks for posting your video. I could not find anything online that told me what the acceptable amp draw is for the steering motor. Under heavy load and practically holding the shaft so it would not turn, it drew about 1.9 amps max. At non load test it only drew 0.5 amps. So I am relieved. I appreciate you for posting this video so that others can learn! Much appreciated!

    Great video 😎🙏🏼 I have a 20ft Angler center console with a 2006 F150 four stroke and I need to check it myself as well. I was taking it out a few weeks ago and one of the gear sprockets for the timing belt broke out of no where. It shattered and caused the engine to shut off. I bought the new gear sprocket and timing belt, but not sure if it cause any internal damage. I hope not… otherwise I will have more work to do.

      Hi sorry just saw this comment if the timing jumped while underway I would say more then likely broke or bent a valve but it may not have if you where lucky I'm not sure the clearance on the Yamaha motors and if it would be ok out of time without hitting a valve

    I'm having the same issue you were. I replaced my steering housing a year ago. Pulled the motor apart and found that my motherboard has 36v at the two wires leaving it that go to the steering housing. I saw your video showed to check power there. Do you think my steering housing is bad again? Worked fine last time I was out

    I would have loved that you'd had someone else holding the camera or a stand. You really make it simple, but unfortunately there's a lot of areas not very clear of where you're taking a screw from. I have the same problem with my engine and nobody wants to deal with the head gasket replacement. I'd be willing to buy you an air ticket, host you in my house and pay you for your labor. Pls let me know.

    How did you find this to do .. I’m thinking of doing my 140 Suzuki 4 stroke . But it has a timing chain not belt .. ive rebuilt several car motors but would be the first 4 stroke outboard. Reason I’m thinking of doing it is it has 700 hours and previous owners didn’t really flush it well so has lots of deposits and build up so be nice to clean the jackets around the head etc

    • @fixitfishitflipit
      @fixitfishitflipit Рік тому

      If your not having any symptoms of a bad head gasket like water in oil water in cylinders overheating etc and are just looking to clean out the water jackets i think idk start with pulling thermostats and flushing motor with pump on recirculating system with vinegar or salt away something of that nature like put a big bucket/ tub under lower fill with water and whatever cleaning substance you decide drop a pump on there and pump wayer into flush port then just use a hose or tube or something to direct the pisser/ tell tale into bucket as well so it recirculates the cleaner through motor for an hour or so I do this regularly with a pump and vinager to descale tankless water heaters as a plumber

Just means get to buy new gear 🤑

      there is so much work it is crazy I turn down couple service calls a day because I dont have the time or man power to get to them the biggest issue down here is finding help not many people want to do manual labor anymore and with the big service companies offering salary plus big commissions for service techs alot of people go that route but if your good, honest, and fairly reasonable your name will spread by word of mouth extremely fast and the big companies are charging so much for small jobs that there is alot of money to be made hope that helps

    Question for you. I have an old 1990 Yamaha 40hp outboard. I am replacing the head/water jacket assembly. Out of 10 head bolts, 8 of them broke. I am working on drilling out the bolts. Can I use grade 8 hardware store bolts for the head? Also, would it hurt to put anti seize on the new bolts?

    • @fixitfishitflipit
      @fixitfishitflipit Рік тому

      Honestly I'm not a professional mechanic by any means and if they're available I would try to order factory bolts to replace them with because the torque specs are based off of the stretch of the bolt it's pretty precisely engineered. Also I can't see anti seize hurting I know when I put head studs in a car I rebuilt the arp studs came with a lubricant to make sure the bolts go in properly
