No bikini clad hot chicks. Sorry. Just straight up fishin'. Sole intention is to share some Nevada fishing and hunting successes (and failures) and tips with the other addicts out there. Pyramid Lake and Truckee River fishing is lots of what I do....
The Most Epic Annual (November 2024) "Bro" Pyramid Lake Shore Fishing Extravaganza Yet!
The annual--2024--brother fishing get together at Pyramid Lake, Nevada kicked off and ended this week. It wasn't until this year when the brothers' arrival coincided with optimal weather/water conditions. It was cold, windy and nasty at the Salty Pond (for the first day, at least) of the two-day fishing trip. EPIC....is the only way to describe it. Both my brothers set new personal bests on Pilot Peak strain Lahontan Cutthroat trout. In all, we landed 5 fish over 10 pounds in two days. Unreal. Until next year!!!!!

Here We Go Again - 2024 Pyramid Lake Lahontan Cutthroat Trout Opener - Hot, Windblown and Miserable

Only reason for this video is to show ya'll (the smart anglers) who don't venture out to the Salty Pond during opening week that you typically aren't missing anything, unless you fish with a boat or a flotation device of some sort. Almost 90 degree temps, gale force winds that embed sand particles under your skin and no big fish moving out of the depths and close to the shoreline are ALL reason...
Lots of Visits to the Truckee River Are Necessary During the Fall To Find a Big Fish or Two

Perseverance. That's the name of the game this time of year when fishing the Truckee River. There are big fish (especially those pumpkin-colored pre-spawn Browns) to be found but it takes patience and covering lots of water. We've found a few okay fish the last few times out....it's definitely taken quite a few trips and lots of lure/jig donations to the river bottom/rocks. With any luck we've ...
Still Some Larger Rainbows To Be Found During Late Summer Early Fall Truckee River Fishing Outings

Still getting out a bit to the Truckee, seeking out those larger fish that may be lurking. They are still mostly in the faster water. The water temps are finally really good...between low 60's to mid-60's. That is, you can fish most of the day, if you want to, and catch and release the fish without too much worry about them swimming off safely. Me and the Seanimal have covered some water the la...
Catching Truckee River Trout, Both West and East of Reno, During Varying Northern NV Conditions

Haven't really had time or energy to make videos of my recent trout fishing trips out to the Truckee River. It's been weird weather, as usual, in the Reno/Sparks area over the last couple weeks. It's also been pretty much "hit or miss" with the fishing. Still found a few, including a couple big ones that were unfortunately able to elude my net, that provided some great time on water!

Seanimal and I spent our Saturday morning hunting for those elusive 20 inch Truckee River rainbows on a day with atypical overcast summer skies. It started off with a BANG and a few good fish. However, just as quickly, it took a turn for the worse. This idiot managed to break off two large fish (one was definitely my fault for being lazy), including one that likely would've made a run for my ri...
Too Many Fish To Count During the Stealth Early Morning Truckee River Fishing Trip

Really early morning fishing trip out to the Truckee in the downtown area. They were finally biting early and they pretty much kept biting consistently until I had to get off the river after a couple hours of chucking. Lost count of how many grabs occurred and the number of fish that were landed. Only one decent fish (20" Rainbow) this time but it was awesome to get that type of action during m...
Really Short Bite Window This Morning to Catch Those Truckee River Rainbows - Made the Most of It

Glad that terrible heat wave is now behind us. It sucked. Even with the recent drop in Truckee River water temps through the Truckee Meadows, there really wasn't a long window this morning when the fish were biting. Plus, the ones that were hungry weren't the big ones we chase. Sean out fished me on this outing, yet again, and found one really 20" fish with shoulders that grabbed his jerk bait....

Didn't have my fishing buddy, Sean, with me for today's fishing outing. Decided to sleep in until at least 6 a.m. and simply revel in yesterday's river outing. However, when the cloud cover didn't break by 10:30 a.m. it looked way too good not to go out the river for a couple hours. It was pretty epic. Hooked up and landed my new personal best pure Truckee River rainbow trout that measured just...

Those of us who spend countless hours throughout the year throwing lines into various sections of the Truckee River in search of those elusive larger trout should be stoked right now! Probably like most places on the West Coast, there has been a SUPER hot weather pattern over the 4th of July weekend. That makes the river fishing window pretty short. Truckee River Rainbow Trout Time of Year is Finally Here

It's that time of year all of us local Reno-Sparks fisherman love...when the Truckee River rainbow trout come out to play in force. I will never complain about tricking, hooking and catching the big browns that lurk in this river. However, nobody can argue that it's the bows that give ya the best, acrobatic and energy filled battles once you get them on the end of your line!
Changing Fishing Tactics Led to A Multi-Species Trout Morning on the Truckee River

My buddy and I didn't get to fish the stretch of river we wanted to this morning due to some shin-dig going on downtown Reno. Lame. Maybe it wasn't a bad thing because it pushed us to head back to a familiar stretch of river farther east. The Truckee River trout weren't cooperating at first but trying different lures and tactics ultimately got a few interested. We ended up catching all four mai...
Last Pyramid Lake Fishing Trip of the 2024 Season, Who Says You Can't Catch a Lahontan Cutty in June

Overall, it's been a pretty piss poor season fishing at Pyramid. Lots of skunk days and mostly smaller fish. Who knows why this year has been so different than the past seasons...I know there are lots of different theories. Most anglers have given up on the lake by now. A few of us die-hards, however, refuse to quit this great fishery as long as it's open. Went out to the lake for a half-day to...

that trip looked awesome! My little brother and I what to fish there for the first time in February or march, what lures are you using and do you have any advice for a newbie at lake pyramid? Thanks so much, Awesome video!
My suggestion would be to take several different colors of Sierra Spoons (1/2 oz), as well as several different colors of tube jigs (1/4 and/or 1/8 oz). If you don't get a grab or two on those then there's something wrong...
@@mclovin7753 awesome thank you so much!
Awsome job dudes
Thanks. It was one of those rare, awesome fishing weekends out there
Got to love fishing the storm days! Happy the bites on from shore early this year!
Absolutely. They are the best. Last season totally sucked so it's nice to see a few bigger fish getting caught from the shore
Spoons?
That was the only thing the few fish were chasing and grabbing that day, unfortunately
Heading up to truckee river for my 40th Any spots I should I check out?
Honestly, you can pretty much find fish anywhere between Gold Ranch area all the way out to Mustang. Some of the City Parks also hold some decent fish. You just gotta cover some water to find the ones who are on the chew. Good luck!
@@mclovin7753 I think I found some good places near Sparks NV from there ima head east on the 80 and see what I find! Thanks for the help!
@@agerothenberg7533 Lockwood area has been pretty good to me in the past.
Good fishing. I got my second monster brown back to back from Truckee river. First one was 26" 5.3 lb 2 weeks ago. Week ago got 24" 4.5 lb. What a fishing trips for me. Got my video on UA-cam catching the 24" brown.
Nice work bud! The Truckee definitely holds some large browns and this is the time of year when they generally get on the chew
Nice! Sean was the slayer that day. Be up there soon. Good stuff.
At least two, that’s great considering the circumstances!
can you please turn your volume up cause I cant here you
Sorry, one of these days I'll splurge for a new GoPro
Good ol, Rock Park 😁
Blockhouse or sandhole? 😁

Good job,you guys killed it.I went out to Rock Park last Monday and got a couple dinkers & a 20, Tight Lines!🎣
Thanks bud. Nice work out there! It's almost that time of year when the bigger browns in the river get hungry
Yes the fishing has been great on the Truckee. Nice video!
Great looking fish! Glad to hear that the water is still cold. I'm looking forward to more videos when temperatures drop. I haven't spent as much time as I'd like in the area, but I've been there enough that I'm starting to recognize some of the areas you're fishing. It does look different with the water so low. Nice work.
Hey! Mclovin775, All the videos on your channel are fantastic and deserve to reach a much larger audience. However, they’re not getting the views they should because they aren’t fully optimized. If you’re open to it, I’d love to help you optimize your videos!
Thanks, but I do my videos for fun/something to do and not for views or likes
I use to fish the Truckee in the 1980's. It's over 3 hours away from me and I do so well within an hour of my place. But I still have Truckee plans. This summer in my area has been too good to to leave. I've been averaging 60 trout a day and 6 over 5 lbs per trip. Caught an 8 lb rainbow last week
Great compilation of outings!!! Truckee has been fishing pretty good! I need to try morning time.
Pretty soon, once the temps drop a bit, it'll be fishing good all day long
Nice. It was hot 2 weeks ago, not as productive for us. Good stuff.

Nice catching 👍 What are you using?
Modified Rebel craw jerk bait and hook up baits mostly
@@mclovin7753 What kind of modification? Are you changing out the trebles for single hooks?
@@markmailander3880 I change out the crappy stock wire hooks that the lures come with and replace them with sharper and more heavy duty hooks so they can handle (usually) the bigger fish
my daughter was watching with me. Had to mute the volume with all the cussing going on.
Apologies. I have my videos marked "Not for kids" when I upload them.
Beautiful fish, congratulations brother
Thanks bud
I took my son up there last night just before dark and didn't even get a hit using Panther Martins And Thomas buoyant spoons
Maybe try a Rebel craw next time? They're loving the crawfish imitations right now
Be up there in 2 weeks.
Nice catches! Are you using braid or mono? 😁
Honestly, I'm lazy. I hate re-tying braid to my fishing line every time I break off...which is pretty frequent. I've found that really light fluoro (only) works pretty well for me for the most part. It's pretty much invisible in the clear water
Master
I went literally this morning (8/2) and didnt catch anything, what kind of jerk bait are you running
Mostly Rebel craws
Awesome. I can’t wait to make it over that way to the truckee soon. PEACE

Solid morning of fishing! Hopefully these 90 temps stay for a while!
Seriously...totally OVER the 100's
Very nice brother 👌
Great looking rainbows. they almost look more like steelhead than resident rainbows. Not a mark on them; they look as healthy as can be. No matter how many times I see it, I'm always surprised by how fast their preferred holding water is. But I guess that's where the oxygen is.
Awesome day bro, nice fish 🎣
You killed it! Still looking for my 20in+ fish. What were you using?
Nice work dude !!
As I always say, I learned from the MASTA (you)....the Master Baiter, that is. Lol
My son and I fished that entire area on Saturday (my 75th birthday) and only caught small cutts and bows. May I ask what lure(s) you are using? Love your videos!
I used a combo of jerk baits and tube jigs...trying to imitate crawfish. Go see Skinny at Mark Fore & Strike--he should be able to get you and your son hooked up for success!
Fished that same area yesterday, but i could only get some small cuties. What did you use?
Very nice, love your videos
But as I was saying I just now fish later. I don't leave my town til 8:30 and I get to my spots about 10. And I fish til about 2. And it's close to 100 degrees .
The really good bite can happen later in the day. Since I'm a catch and release guy I have made the choice not to fish later in the day most of the time when it gets really hot out...the accepted belief is that if the water temp gets much over 65 degrees the fish you battle and then release have a low survival rate b/c of low dissolved oxygen levels.
I practice catch and release also. But even though it's later in day and it gets around a 100 the water here is snow melt. So I usually have my waders on. If I do take my waders off I can't stand in water long. It's cold. I haven't fished Truckee since the 90's. Use to fish it lot in early 80's to mid 90's. It's almost 3 hours for me. I live Truckee but I got dozens of streams that are within minutes to me and some a half hour and some an hour. So I usually don't make it to Truckee. Some day I'll get back
I guess for me I mostly fished the California side and it wasn't as difficult regulation wise as Klamath or r Trinity but still there were lots of different regulations. From here to here this then this. Then back to this. Then a private club. And not being my neck of the woods I'd say let's just fish where I know the landmarks
@@davidadams5280 Yeah, the water down through the Truckee Meadows can get pretty warm during summertime. Sounds like you don't have to worry about it up there fishing at elevation close to where the snow melt off occurs. Continued good luck to you bud!
I noticed you said late start at 10:30. I use to look at all these charts showing when fish bite and get out early. And I wouldn't catch much at first. Then as it got a little later the bite would get on. And then on way back I'd try spots from earlier and nail them. And my wife would say you do better later in day . But I do best after 10 am on Sunny days. I been averaging on a river about 2 hours from Truckee 45 fish a day and 8 over 5lbs.
Good job you're killing it lately I can't wait to get up there!🎣
Great fishing day! The river has been producing finally!!
Great rainbows! To get that many of them in one day is spectacular. The Truckee really holds some great fish. I was there a couple of weeks ago and couldn't access the Fisherman's Parks of Kietzke. The lots were not open; gates were closed. Did I just pick a bad day? Did someone not open the gates that day? Or are they closed long-term for some reason. I was able to access that stretch of river easily enough by parking at WalMart, so it wasn't the end of the world. All I got were some small cutthroats. the local anglers seemed pretty annoyed by them, but we don't have them here in the Midwest, so I was happy to get them.
Unfortunately, they have that section near Fisherman's Park fenced off, I believe, due to all the homeless turds who do shady stuff in that area. The homeless are a huge problem in the downtown corridor with their trash, drug use and crazy/criminal behavior. Good work catching some fish in the river! It's not an easy fishery to be successful, by any means. I think the reason the locals don't give much credit to the Lahontans in the river is because they are almost all hatchery fish that NDOW stocks periodically and not the wild rainbows and browns that tend to get larger and fight better
Hot damn. Thats a nice fish
Very nice rainbows! What kind of lures do you guys typically use fishing that river?
Usually jigs and jerk baits.
@@mclovin7753 REALLY? Just jerk baits! YOUR THE JERK BAIT!
Yes thats what i tell people. The creeks i fish its more like 90% are at the beginning or easy and known spots. I fished a spot between two popular holes and i caught 7 rainbows that were 5lbs each. People were above me above me at easy popular spot with bait for hours. I came back and when they ask i just say a coup hits or little guys. These people keep everything. And i do all i can to not get the word out
Very Nice. I been catching trout here in California look about like that. Only a couple hours away from there. On a stream. I been average 10 like that per trip and 40 fish overall per trip. It's a famous spot but I only see a couple people per trip and I do all to keep it that way lol
Nice work bud! I find that if you even walk 1/4 from a road/parking area then you lose about 75% of the other fisherman
