📚 Check out my electrical Revit Course here! www.mepguy.com 💡 When you put light fixtures in your project, it's important to switch those lights. Revit has a way of creating lighting zones that can help you track which switch switches which fixtures (say that 10 times fast). There are some caveats though, such as only being able to add a single Lighting Device per system, which causes issues wh...

Drawing Grid Head location - Where do YOU put them?
Dude your amazing
you save my majors
Thanks for your video. But how do you model the concrete itself, with the conduits encased with it?
Thank you ❤
I enjoyed your quick tips in this video. I like to use hot keys (come from autocad). Are you using hotkeys? If so, do you know where I can find them and or customize them? Newer to Revit. Thanks!
So, basically a MLO panel gets control by the same breaker that controls the MCB panel right? But what if the breaker is 200A and both panels are 200A? Does it depends on the load calculations to know if is going to work?
Is there a way to manipulate location if it is not in a space?
Thanks for the video. I realize I'm a little late to the upload. Any chance you've found an effective way to represent I-line panels on a panel schedule that reflects the amount of space utilized, but doesn't take recreating your spreadsheet from the ground up? I work with I-lines a lot, and our normal panel schedule works if they're all roughly the same size. It gets tricky when you have a range between the 4.5" - 9" in the same panel. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks for your content. Really helpful to hear your opinions on these topics.
The MLO panel tells you on the inside door label which main breaker should be used by part number, if you want to add a main breaker to the MLO load center.
Exactly what I want to see more of. Could you please make more videos with revit models on Vision Pro!! I tried it today for the first time and couldn't believe how real it was. I'm extremely interested in taking this further and really hone in on this specific industry. Would love to see more.
I have been saying this for years. We basically need the rest of the team to be "pencils down" at a certain point and then we should get an extra 3 weeks to coordinate.
Grid bubbles should always be on the top and right. Your senior Engineer was correct. It also helps that you don't have to open the bound set all the way to see the column heads.
Much appreciated. dark mode to the moon 🤩
One thing I might try to work out at some point is using switch systems to automate relay panel schedules.
Awesome! Could you do a video on a fire alarm system riser?
Awesome video! They've since added dark mode for Revit 2024, maybe you can do a video comparing your version and theirs!
Thank you so much
Do you know why are the lights showing as tilted after the calculations? How to fix it?
how to practice I'm beginner
Do you have anything on substation or transmission design families for medium to high voltage? I recently switched from commercial electrical design to substation and transmission and I'd really love to get my company to switch from CAD to Revit. Havn't found much in dealing with revit in my online searches for high voltage design. If you know of any resources, let me know!
how to add new tags? when I try to update the tag, I can't find options in the list.

Really useful, I am arch and have always wanted to do my own calcs for this, but this is just one piece of the puzzle. Like you mentioned, bad data in, bad data out, so using elum tools or similar is kind of useless if you do not know what are common values for lighting, and what values are required for the calcs to work. When it comes to me as an arch working on an RCP, I have my go to families which really are used for graphic representation on the plan, I have no idea on its actual real life values, or if they have any built into them. I am sure there are times where the lights we show on our RCP works, but I bet they could be optimized if we knew about calcs, and what values matter when selecting a light, which we as arch do not, and leave that to the lighting consultants or the electrical team. That also leads to the engineers selecting their typical fixtures, which may or may not be as "nice" as we would have selected. Subbed, looking forward to learning more about the electrical side and seeing how I can use that to make my model better for the MEP engies, I pretty much maxed out my arch revit stats. I work in the US, someone in the comments mentioned no one uses foot candles...idk where he is getting that from, the code references minimum foot candles....
Who clocked you in your left eye? Want me to tag them back for you?
😂 I used to stay up till 1am recording these videos….guess I was looking extra rough that night
Great video! thanks
Foot candle? nobody in the world uses "candles" anymore as main source of lighting, same as for "foot" totally non-precise, erroneous unit... engineering is not only applying theoretical concepts, it must be engineering for construction, therefore there is great importance in using the most accurate way of measuring, building, fabricating, etc... which is the metric unit... and in the case of 3D models setting the units as millimeters. For the case of illuminance shall be LUX. Cheers
Are we able to adjust the length of all the keynotes legends at once? Have quite a few sheets where the legends go off the sheet and it’s a huge project so do not want to go through each sheet and adjust everyone individually
Can I use A Apple Vision Pro straight from my windows 11 or do I need a mac book?
THE SHAPE OF THE LOOP OF THE PIPING TAG CAN BE MODIFIED ?
Jon feeders are 3% and branch CKTs are 2%. I always VE as per this percentage. the reason being is the feeders usually travel long distances with bigger load at the end however branch circuits shorter distances are usually smaller load like receptacles lights etc.
Ah that makes sense….i do wonder tho, doesn’t the feeder to the panel have the advantage of always being calculated at 3 phase, thus typically not as much of an issue as the single phase branch circuits? If you hold the branch circuits to 2%, you’re very limited in distance for single phase runs.
Do you have a video on how to make the generic keynote bubble? I only have large boxes for keynotes in REVIT
I don’t recall making that video yet. Are you talking about creating the keynote family with a custom looking box/symbol? It’s a nice simple video idea!
Hey Jon, good to see you back! Thanks for always bringing up some of the extraordinary topics like this❤
It feels wonderful to be back on screen! I'm glad I have viewers like you that appreciate these nuanced topics!
Also, who are you using integer and number values instead of Yes/No Parameters?
@@sharkblade3 I was trying to combine all the coverage areas into one parameter, but it’s actually starting to be more annoying honestly. Might break it out to be its own yea/no parameter. I just overthought it 😬🤷🏻♂️
@@theelectricaldepartment ahh okay I see, so you use a conditional statement or something to cycle through the options, that's cool
@@sharkblade3 Yeah because for some reason I thought that would be the best method to avoid someone having 15cd and 75cd checked off at the same time. I was trying to avoid double coverage, but honestly its such a minor and obvious error if the user ends up doing that. Also for your other issue, I haven't really had a problem selecting the invisible part of the element when I have it turned off. When the coverage is on though, it is a little cumbersome to click around it.
Do you ever have issues when you can select the model elements that are not visible? For example, the 15 cd coverage area is set not Not Visible but you can still click in the model? I have the issue when I use model lines but I did find a work around for it.
Americans will not have good quality engineering until they start using metric system... feet, inches, fractions, etc., are very inaccurate, and when using them on material length, the error is accumulated massively. Meter is a NATURAL, consistent and absolute unit... is coming from 100cm... and 1 cm is the diameter of a drop of water... Egyptians were using it... also the Royal Cubic of the Egyptians comes from Meter/Centimeter... then relationship between cubic meter to water weight/kgr... etc Setting AutoCAD or Revit in millimeters means that every unit of error if any, would be a millimeter, and not an Inch (25.4 mm)...
thank you , this video helps me alot, but here in UAE .. Db has two section one for RCD 30mA and the Other section 100mA , and isolator rating as per the connected load << this example for ABudhabi , can you help me how to show these. thanks in advance
12:54 I thought "A IC" meant "amperes of interrupting capacity".
Actually, it used to which was pretty confusing since AIC could mean two things. Now, breakers are listed with AIR for available interrupting rating which clears things up a bit.
Hey boy. are you an elelctrical engineer? or a youtuber?
Do I have to pick one?
@@theelectricaldepartment your answer implies that you're not either one 😀 linking SLD with model/schedule is a great idea! your ElectroBIM seems useful for MEP design with Revit. however I think it's still far to be used in a real/big electrical power design project. your arc-flash calculation is not applicable at all.
@@anhngg6198 Oh I'm not arguing with any of your points. That's exactly what I use it for, MEP Design, so its perfect for that scenario. We're still using SKM for the main power calcs and drawing the rest of the SLD in CAD due to the need for double ended switchgears, substations, central DRUPS and campus MV loops. It's by no means a replacement for the full proper engineering work, but a great tool for assisting with the mundane bits of tracking all your panelboards, feeders, and breaker coordination downstream.
Thanks for the electrical videos. I normally use the SLD to provide an overview of the electrical system. Then panel schedule for the boards that feed the final circuits - i.e socket outlets (receptacles?), lighting etc
Yea that is a good delineation, and as long as you’re consistent with it, the project should be easy to follow!
This program looks like exactly what I am looking for. our team is downloading the trial. looking to make the plan view panels, cables and the SLD all link together this looks to be it. Hopfeully get it to size cables according to code/vdrop as well (i see there is functionality for this). Arc flash looks interesting, not sure they have the same libraries as ETAP or SKM but definitely going to do some comparisons. Thank you for sharing.
It’s a very useful plugin…The Vdrop cable sizing is apparently a newer feature that I’m actually testing out right now!
Nice software too expensive.
It is pricey, you gotta have enough uses for it. For our company’s bill rate tho, it breaks even if it saves our engineers just 15 hours in the year.
Can we import .stl files into Revit on Apple Vision Pro?
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO. IT HELPED ME JUST RIGHT WHEN IT NEEDED IT THE MOST. KEEP DOING THE GOOD WORK. UNIVERSE BLESS YOU.
Can you go over one of switchgear and MCCs?
What version of revit do you use?
I think this video uses 2024
@@theelectricaldepartment That's cool
Awesome videos, glad I found you! I would love to see the design process too like how you size everything using NEC etc
I have followed you're steps but in my case keynote tag was coming in floor plan but not coming in the sheet. Please let me know how can I fix it?
Does the keynote symbol not show up? If you have discord I can try to help you via screen share in a few hours
