S1/E5: The Bountiful Farmhouse - Why We Plant What We Plant
I tried it with grape leaves from my garden harvested in early August. Mostly, these were young leaves. Even after 30 minutes of cooking they were still chewy like leather. Did not even try using them for any recipe. What am I missing? Interestingly, the boiled leaves tear very easily, but they are absolutely impossible to eat.
You don’t know me (I probably only talked with each of you a couple of times times) but I used to stop and visit Ginger and Maryann after my last dog passed away. They were so sweet and filled an empty spot in my heart. Time marches on. I don’t always like the changes though. I wish you joy and peace during this next turn of your life.
Thank you so very much. Time does march on and I agree with you 100% - I don't always like the changes either, but I choose to approach each one with an open heart and mind. Thank you for your support.
Best of luck in this new direction, Mindy and Eric. You're in my thoughts, daily. Truly daily.
Thank you so much!
Wishing the bountiful farmhouse a productive and fruitful next chapter under new ownership, and wishing all the best to Mindy and Eric on their next chapter.

Wondering if no ice if cold water is good enough and wondering why process needs to be stopped?
The process needs to be stopped so that the leaves don't continue to cook. Ice cold water stops this process fast. The longer they stay warm, the more they will cook and get soggy.
Do they keep that crunch when canned? I have a cherry tree and this will also be my first year
Canned cherries don't really keep their crunch, but they stay plump and juicy and taste wonderful.
15 minutes! aren't those completely cooked? The turn them over fro another 15 minutes? That's blanching? I thougt blanching was a minute or two.
Later she says at demo 15 seconds.
Oh my goodness!! I meant to say 15 seconds on each side or until they begin to wilt for the blanching time. It was the water bath timing that is 15 minutes.
@@thebountifulfarmhouse I am trying so hard to find a decent recipe that does not waste my time. Thank goodness I would not have listened the to 15 minute blanch advise. Unfortunately, that is what makes me do my research and look for better guidance.
Wow! 26 quarts?! That's awesome. I planted a few grapes, so fingers crossed. I have the mindset that chickens know what they can have. 🐔

I love this first episode! I am in salt lake and we are starting our first garden this year! Im excited to explore your channel more for all your awesome tip and tricks!
Welcome aboard! We are just getting ready to start season 2. Hopefully you will join us along this years journey.
Mindy, will you be planting garlic this month? My husband does this every year and we enjoy eating them late spring.
Thank you for asking. I will be planting garlic this weekend. I will use the garlic we planted this spring. Hopefully by planting in the fall, we have bigger garlic to use next springtime.
Way to go you two!! ❤
Hi Jenn! So happy to have you along.
This episode takes me back to when my mom made grape juice 😢
Great memories. My mom walked me through this process since it was our first time making it. I remember watching my mom make it before she got a juicer. It was quite the process. Made me even more grateful for the time she spent making sure we had good things on the table for all of us kids.
Hello! New here. I’d like to can peaches with a few raspberries and strawberries in them… I’m new to canning. Is this a no no or do I have to do something different?
Great question! I have never done that. You can preserve both raspberries and strawberries the same way you do peaches, so why not? If you give it a try I would love to hear back from you sharing your results. It sounds delicious.

Thank you.
Can you get second generation homemade raspberry jam and bread at the Bountiful Farmhouse 😉
Jerry so happy you found us. Yes, there is the possibility of getting second generation 😄raspberry jam and bread at the Bountiful Farmhouse.
I drove by your house on Thursday, very cute place!
I did. Pie filling and I tried to pop all the little bubbles tiny ones but even after processing there were tiny bubbles 🤷🏼♀️but they all sealed and I did quarts and the other recipe I used said process for 27 for my elevation🤷🏼♀️so many different instructions I hope mine are ok
Canning is a learning curve for sure. So many different recipes and instructions to try. I have learned over the years it is definitely a trial and error process. Good luck with your pie filling.
Hi, just subscribed. Try the Russian recipe for making grape juice. It makes the most of your grapes. Beautiful garden! I don't think it's grasshoppers getting your stuff, it looks like the flea beetle work.
Thanks for subscribing. I will have to look into the Russian recipe for grape juice - thanks for the tip.
I'm thinking you compost pallets could be turned. The way they are, compost etc is going to sit in the wood more and rot it faster. Just a thought. Many blessings everyone.
Betsy you are right. After I screwed them together I realized I had them facing the wrong way. I am going to either flip them around, or add chicken wire into the inside. Flipping them will be much easier!
@@thebountifulfarmhouse cheaper too. Many blessings everyone.
Good music 🎶🎶🎶🎶 blessings everyone.
This is so much fun! Glad to see the fruits of your labor!
Thanks Xi. It is fun and rewarding to see the growth!
That is beautiful!!!
Thank you so much!
I'm new here and just found your channel. I just wanted to say, I'm so sorry for the loss of your fur babies, it is always a very hard loss. I am loving your content so far and binge watching now! Thank you for the great information.
I am so happy you found us! Welcome. Losing our fur babies has been rough for both of us. Life is a bit strange without them. Let us know if there is other content that you would like to see.
Amazing!!!
Fabulous! What a great job! Happy chickens, Happy eggs! The next time I'm up that way, I'd love to stop by and buy a couple dozen.
Happy to give you some.
Now I know what "tisane" means. I miss our dehydrator!

I broke my foot a few weeks ago, so I feel like I'm way behind with my garden. The Dr switched me from a cast to walking boot, so I've been outside prepping my beds and playing catch up. Today, I planted squash plants, cucumbers, tomatoes, sweet bell peppers, and a jalapeño plant. Friends were kind enough to start seeds for me when I broke my foot. Gardeners tend to be a kind, sharing group. I love seeing other gardens. Yours is beautiful.
Thank you so much. Yes, gardeners do tend to be a kind sharing group. I have learned much from many. I can totally empathize with you and a broken foot. Been there, done that! I hope you have a speedy recovery.
You two are too cute ❤
Your love shines through!
It's what makes our world go 'round. : )

Medicinal Herb Garden: Motherwort, Passion Flower, Echinacea, Holy Basil, Toothache plant, Feverfew. Some of these will go into our rose garden as well.
