Fire Up for Fall
Early October, 2024, featured summerlike weather. The transition to fall went on anyway. Conference realignment in college football goes on, with Massachusetts soon to join the Mid-American whilst current Mid-American affiliate Northern Illinois is negotiating with the Mountain West. They played on a hot Saturday midday.
The Illinois Railway Museum put away its steam locomotives early in the month. Harvest season in east central Pennsylvania included lots of children out for their pumpkins, whether near the Strasburg Rail Road or on the recently reactivated East Broad Top.

For the most part, O scalers view other modellers' layouts by travelling to their houses. My State of Maine Northern participates in the layout tours that accompany the Lombard, Illinois March Meet. I feature the train that was running continuously during the meet, as well as a few other trains that ran during the summer as encouragement to keep modelling. The Detroit Model Railroad Club have a...
Rolling Toward a Winter Wonderland

The tradition of trains rolling by the Christmas tree continues. This year, the newest rolling stock in the video has nearly ninety years on it. Musical accompaniment is by the Hampton String Quartet, with a rendition of "Winter Wonderland" after Beethoven. The video, dear reader, was recorded on Beethoven's birthday.

All the tracks are in place for the Midvale Maritime Steel open hearth shop, the Outward and Inward Exchange Sidings, and the River Works of General Electric. New tracks in place mean new test trains are in order. A road freight delivers cars, the local freight shows up, the Budd Cars pass through, after which the local freight works the Inward Exchange Sidings and the River Works.

The old familiar vintage trains circle the tree. It's a more somber setting this year, including for the O Scale trains that also appear. 01:55 Vintage trains circle the Christmas tree. 04:15 Action around the steel works.
Canadian Pacific Holiday Train at Byron, Illinois

The snow came out on November 26 to add that North Pole touch to the tour of the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train. Kiesza and Seaforth provided the music, and the Railroad contributed US $4000 to "Neighbors Helping Neighbors," the local food pantry. The pantry received cash and in kind contributions before and during the stop.

The powered display track circling the basement train room up high is useful for kicking back and watching trains run, or for running in power, or uncovering defects. I did a little of each in getting this video together. There are spots where cars or locomotives that aren't good runners find track that's out of alignment, or otherwise not up to standards. I've noted the sections of track for w...

What better place to be on a sticky summer day than down cellar where it's cool. The Fox Valley O Scalers featured a lot of visiting motive power during a prototype operating session. The State of Maine Northern crew were busy sorting out all the Marquette, Iowa, industries, rather than taking pictures. On the State of Maine Northern, the first tracks are in along the Gloucester Branch, and whe...

Have Yourself A Merry O Scale Christmas
I figure that it’s engine number 49😂
Rochelle, IL is cool spot for freight trains
Sounds like D&SNG 482’s whistle!
What the rolls numbers
What the rolls numbers?
All aboard baby!
What model?
Apparently its a 165
And the same to you. John
Very nice and heartwarming. Unfortunately, there is no such thing here in Germany. That's why it's very nice to be able to watch such videos. Thanks for uploading. Merry Christmas to all!
Was that a brass Little Joe? Very interesting vid.
Baldwin "Double Ender" diesel. Jersey Central prototype DR 6-4-2000.
Thank you!
Nice i need a few state of maine cars , i saw that tornado before thats neat !
"promo sm" 🙈
HO or O Scale? Either way the wide curves make the consists look great.
O Scale the King of Scales. The inner circuit is built up from a modular display that used to travel to swap meets and other events in the Rockford area.
Very cool! My first thought was that it was O because the sounds of the cars passing had that sound of something with weight to it. Still in the Rockford area? I’m near Schaumburg and would love to see this layout if it’s open to view.
@@bobr511 Register for the Lombard March Meet, which will be St. Patrick's Weekend, bring your money for the swap meet, and then go on the layout tours.
Video quality?? IM only getting 480. Most cell phones are 1080 or more
Canon Power Shot 640 x 480. Digital camera, not phone.
Absolutely wonderful!
Wha- A 4-14-4? That won't handle turns of any radius at all!
Good for ten foot minimum radius, dead slow.
The AA20… UP 9k series big brother on steroids. Wonder if there are models on the opposed piston steam-diesel hybrids and the steam-gas prototype
None that I know of, and I'm not tackling any new scratch building projects at the moment. But I have this thing for exotic rigid frame locomotives, so who knows? coldspringshops.blogspot.com/2022/07/watch-this-space.html
Sad to see such a good thing that made people feel happy & in the spirit of Christmas go away it's just sad. To the people who ran this holiday lights train, have a wonderful retirement & thanks for the memories!!!!
yes
yayayayayayayayayayayayayyaay
Just wonderful . . . nothing like an outside curve . . .
Just the exigencies of the basement design!
The FRA limited her to 25 MPH. She could have done considerably more. She’s a sweet running engine but the track was a little rough.
A more recent view of the locomotive here: coldspringshops.blogspot.com/2022/03/watch-this-space.html
SK~, This is what I call modeling! Great job of this beast. Can't wait to see this model completed and running... Thanx Thom...
I wonder how this is doing today?
It's run short distances under its own power, then some new defect emerges.
So, it’s accurate!
@@SHKarlson just like the real thing
this vid is gonna be in the algorithm soon i just know it
Kiddieland would shutdown shortly.
Yes, which is why I got over there to record it! The coaster is now at Six Flags and the trains I think went to Hesston.
#AA20
So that's how the 14 drive wheels work, cool
Very nice! Da' Fish
Too bad we did not see the AA20 drive
I am doing the same thing but than in 1/32 scale, and in live steam, i would love to have some original pictures and the original promo video of the AA20, last year you could find something... now 2021 January all seems to be lost,i really hope we can share some information.btw how far are you? you have a video on your tracks? hauling some frieght?love your work and effort, this loco can not be lost.... for your info: the loco itself was not a failure! I am desperate looking for details, i hope you can help me with that *one* photo.... Looking forward to you replay, with best regards Igor
Best wishes on your efforts, in 1:32 and with live steam will be glorious to see. Everything that I have been able to document on the Andreyev is on my web journal. That includes some of the Soviet film of the AA20-1 with a string of gons. coldspringshops.blogspot.com/search/label/Andreyev%204-14-4

4-14-4 wheel arrangement detected. Click video. I just made an episode of my locomotive documentary series (Remarkable Engines) on the basis of this frame (Soviet Locomotive class AA20) if you're interested.
AA20 the track destroyer
Nice !
Always good to see what progress you are making . . . must be nice to be out of the "grading gulag" for the term . . .
I've been out of grading gulag for six years. The railroad gives me something to do during quarantine gulag.
If only we'd finished that tunnel, Stephen!
Love the ECJS clerestories.
Nice, good job.
What dose Free Rein to 110 supposed to mean.
Speed limit. Until recently passenger trains could not exceed 79 mph on this track. At the time of the recording, they were good for 110.
Are you the first to make a model of this interesting locomotive?
Probably not. I've been working on this one, on and off, since 2000. I've heard of another in TT before mine, and there's at least one model of it, in HO, being built in Russia. Maybe, checking my recommended feed, there's more than one HO model extant.
Of course they called it the AA-20
Anyone know the top speed for the CA&E steel fleet?
Awesome video I hope to see the Holiday Train someday. I just subscribed!
I like everything about Illinois Terminal
Hey if I didn't have my own model passenger train I would be jealous. T2
Awesome. SF had Red Ball freights as the priority freight train as well. T2
There I am, motoring along....
I grew up in Milwaukee Wisconsin and remember visiting this layout. I remember the staircase was still there that would have lead up the the waiting platform by the tracks. I also remember that the train ran through the men's restroom, quite a surprise when you're standing by the urinal!! I hope that it's still up and running since it was such a great layout! Don Darr (South Division 1979)
Man that looks cool. I really wish you'd upload some HD photos of the engine, so we can see it up close... are you still working on it sir?
Thank you for your interest. There are a couple other test videos on this channel, and photo progress here: coldspringshops.blogspot.com/search/label/Andreyev%204-14-4
Stephen Karlson Ah, thanks again sir. Looking great. I'm also building this locomotive in 3D myself, and i'm trying to find all the material i can get.
Bob Stevenson of Stevenson Preservation Lines might have another built up Double Ender for sale. The Fairbanks Morse is a Lionel shell on a Central Locomotive Works drive, you'd have to do your own scrounging and scratchbuilding.
Did you build it yourself or buy one? I'd like to purchase one of my own if there's one for sale anywhere.
