Words of Wisdom 02 - Truth
Переглядів 13Рік тому
If one is biased toward truth he or she will be seen as being biased toward one side of the political spectrum. This is due to the fact that one side stands for truth while the other side is a purveyor of lies. In the end, the truth is all that matters. The entire Left side of the spectrum is built on "subjective truth" which is basically a foundation of lies. When your mantra is "By Any Means ...

    I saw her perform a couple of songs at a Talon Winery years ago. Her mother, who was shortly after that murdered, was ther with her. They were both very pleasant people. I often wondered how her career was doing after the tragedy she had to experience. She was very good at her young age. I hope she is doing well.

    When installing the pistons and rods install all them with the bolts snug then torque to yield. This helps with side loading or twisting the bearing because of the other rod being beside it during torqing.

    Hi mate, I’ve loved watching your vids as they’re really well done and an inspiration. Hope you don’t mind if ask a question as I’ve had big drama with my build. It’s about thread/aluminium damage possibly caused by age/washing/bad initial casting. I have an L76 engine. In 2012 had one of the heads off for a repair of a problem I had installing headers. I reinstalled with new head bolts, gasket and a good torque wrench and no problems since then. The engine has almost 300K kms on it now and recently a valve on the other head broke, fell in to the combustion chamber but luckily no block damage. That head was pretty damaged though. I had the engine sent to a good shop for a full overhaul with new springs, valves, cam, cam bushes, conrods, pistons - everything but the crank and block. The damaged head was repaired. As I am on a budget and enjoy working on my car I opted to reinstall the heads and rocker arms myself. I have a brand new expensive calibrated torque wrench and the best head bolts and gaskets. Also new rocker arm bolts. First problem: on the second pass (70°) the internal M11 on no.1 cylinder stripped the threads on the block. Second problem: 4 of the rocker arm bolts stripped their threads in the repaired head. All specs were adhered to (22lb ft., 90° then 70° for the heads and 22 lb ft for the rocker bolts). My engine man is away till the 6th of Jan and has asked me not to do anything else till he’s back. So the questions are: have you ever experienced this kind of thing? Would you be able to tell me if washing aluminium blocks and heads degrades them? Does aluminium break down over time? I know about heli-coils and time -setts and know the latter are needed for threads in the block for the heads. So I’ll go with that. As the head studs have been used I’ll have to get new ones. I am thinking the ARP studs and bolts might be better as I am paranoid about this happening again. But what about the rocker bolts? I couldn’t torque them without 4 of the threads turning to butter. Thanks in advance for your thoughts on these issues. Cheers Erik.

      @ledopmi 4 роки тому

      I wish I could give you some good advice but this is a mystery to me. I can't see how cleaning aluminum castings can hurt them. All I can say is wait until your machinist takes a look at it. I'm curious myself so, if you don't mind, please post the findings when you get a chance.

    • @EJP
      @EJP 7 місяців тому

      Hi and apologies for the late reply. The thread stripping in the block and head have been put down to engine overheating a few times in its life. This is not 100% conclusive but likely due to metallurgical changes from over heat. I completed the engine and had it just run in when one of the pistons went through the bore, completely writing it off. Bad luck hey. I ended up buying a 2nd hand L98 and had it put in the car with no modifications apart from replacing the rear main. Quite a disappointment going from a cammed up worked L76 to a stock L98. It will be good for me at present and will be replaced with a cammed LS3 when I get round to it.
