OMG, what happened to Tom Obrian? I knew him. RIP
Fantastic job Bill ❤❤❤
Class of '76. Warren Snyder was my favorite teacher. Still remember some of the lines he had.
Sad
Too many😊
What would we do without you, Bill! Thank you!
you should see the school now- total ghetto.
Great video!
I would see Maureen McCormick and Susan Olsen. Graduated in 1977.
We are, TAFT HIGH!!! Thank you Larry...
Memories I was the class of 1976 Thought these guys were so cool
Susan Olson went this school 1976 to 1979
Jan Smithers went to this school 1964 to 1967
Lisa Kudrow went to this school 1978 to 1981
I was in the Taft band in '62 & '63. By '75 the cadence had become a little jazzier, but it was essentially the same. Great to hear it again. Thanks to you and Larry Gassner.
So wonderful of you to do this
Cheryl Owen’s!! Darlene tremiti here! Remember hitch hiking on the school field trip to the beach.. good grief! The chances we took.. you were full of adventure and I was along braving the ride 😂 proud of us!! Much love Darlene
Where have you been all these years…the last time I saw you, you were walking in the surf.
How can I contact you
Anna you were and no doubt still are beautiful! I was your unpredictable’ friend’ you were a special person to me.. we had fun! Cutting school and dodging our parents! Fond memories.. best of wishes! Love always Darlene tremiti
I moved away after 8th grade. But I recognize a lot of the people in this video. Especially Burdine Wilson who I had the hots for LOL glad to see everybody's doing good. I moved to San Diego and had a great time in high school. Playing football and track
Hi Bill...were you a P.E teacher there in 81 or 82?
Hi Lisa. Yes I was.....I started in the Fall of '79 but I was never a permanent teacher. 1982 was my last year teaching. Were you at Taft then?
@TaftHigh74 Yes! I remember you and had a crush on you, but you were a good man and told me never to call you by your first name :)
@@LisaLisaLisa1 Thank you, Lisa, I'm flattered ❤ I'm also glad I acted professionally 😂. I wasn't that much older than students at that point( I was around 25) and there were a lot of pretty girls at Taft. Temptation was everywhere! 😎
Imagine my surprise and delight to see these photos of my colleagues and friends. Thank you, Bill, whoever you are. Norma Kurkjian Derr
Thank you, Norma. It's so nice to hear from a former teacher since so few of you are still with us.😢 Anne Newman and Saul Rowen post on the Taft Facebook pages sometimes. If you're on Facebook you should check in. I know people would love to hear from you. I was in the Class of '74. I wasn't in any of your classes, but my best friend Mike Albarian was. I've created over 20 videos about Taft over the last few years. Here's where you can find them: ua-cam.com/play/PL9KAk4jiIZP4K80GQQwuNt9QwqgHBaygn.html Here's the link to the Class of '74 page-- facebook.com/groups/tafthighclassof1974 Stop by and say Hi! Bill
I remember you as Miss Kurkjian. I had her for English (pretty sure - or was it social studies. . I felt, for some bizarre reason, you seemed to think I held promise. Turns out I did become a writer (who knew?!) . I hope you're a fan of Ruthless People, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and My Cousin Vinny - all of which I wrote. (though Scoundrels was a remake, so I only take partial credit for that one). I remember you drove a red Corvette (or did you have the Blue one?) Such a pleasure to see you here.
@@dalelauner1965 Based on the date you were in one of my first classes right out of college and it probably was English. Loved Ruthless People and My Cousin Vinny. They were both hilarious and original. Congrats on a fruitful career. And, I had the red Corvette.
The good old days, class of 74. Love it.keep it up guys.

I read today that Ozzie Smith and Eddie Murray both played on the 1973 Locke High School team. I was curious because I am pretty sure that my 1973 team played Locke in a preseason game at Locke. Curious enough to google the 1973 team and found this tribute to the '73-'75 teams. Well done and fun to watch! Thanks, Mark Abrahams
I'm glad you liked it, Mark. The '73 teams (Varsity/JV) did play Locke in the preseason in '73 and also in '74. As you probably remember, the final 2-1 playoff loss vs Monroe in '73 was played at Balboa Park. 4 games were going on at the same time. One of the other games was Kennedy vs the Smith/Murray Locke team. (Kennedy won 4-3) So, 3 future Hall of Fame Players were playing on that day at the same park. There were a number of other future MLB players also playing that day. Here's an article about it: sabr.org/journal/article/baseball-at-sepulveda-dam-one-afternoon-three-hall-of-famers/
Of course I remember the playoff game. It was a tough loss. Coach O was pissed off and told us so during the short, but uncomfortable bus ride home. I especially remember the game at Locke early in the season. While we were on the bus ready to go home, someone from Locke, maybe just a student, or a fan, or an opposing player, hopped on the bus, stood at the front, and just talked shit to us. I can’t tell you whether we won or lost, I just remember the bus incident. @@TaftHigh74
This is the graduating class before Marcia Brady (Maureen McCormick).
Friday afternoons down the halls and then again Friday nights at the football games. We have spirit, yes we do.. We have spirit, how about you? Good times!
Thank you Bill ❤
Thank you for taking the time to put this together and thanks for including my brother Arik Martin.

Well done Video.
I got to say, simply the best. 1979 graduate - Jay Hattenhauer
Um, I highly doubt Eazy E went to Taft high school at any point.
There are multiple sources that support that. Ice Cube and Easy E were bussed to Taft from Compton and South Central, but Easy E dropped out in 10th grade. @@TaftHigh74 Hmmm, interesting. I obviously knew that Cube did that bus ride into Taft but had no idea about E.
Thank you for the memories (graduated '71), especially of Mr. Roth, Mr. Van Gorder and Mr. Oxx. Each of them left me with wonderful, lasting memories!
Thank you for putting this together, absolutely love it!
What books are we missing?
We’ve lost so many greats
Great video
So sorry to see so many of my classmates are no longer with us. Where did this information come from?
My name is Martin Wilhelm, I graduated from Taft in 1973 and I don’t remember any of these people. I guess that’s sad but I do remember having a great time in the marching band, played the clarinet!
I graduated from Taft in 1973. I went there for one year. I know one person from the video. I went to Birmingham for a 10th and 11th grade. I knew several people at the 50th reunion.
Joan Jett actually had 10th grade in Wheaton High School, in Maryland. That picture of her in this video comes from her Sophomore year Wheaton High yearbook. If there aren't any actual pictures of her at Taft, how are we so sure she was there? I think she was only there for GED classes, not as a regular student.
Wasn't Maureen McCormick in this class?
Yes she was. She missed a lot of school when they were shooting, but she was a member of the Class of '74
Bill - Thanks for posting
From 1975-1978 my group of friends hung out (at 2:26 on the right side of the frame)...across from what was then the 'graphic arts' or print shop.
TASM 1 SCHOOL!!!!
OK, can anyone help me remember what home coming dance it was that Three Dog Night played?
Classy school back then. Today it's GHETTO!! Just terrible to drive by and see the crap that goes to that school
damn I'm a sophomore right now and the schools garbage right now because it's all under construction and it's crowded everywhere .looked so cool back then
One of the first things I thought of when I heard about the modernization is that the kids going to Taft now would have to suffer through the construction but won't be able to enjoy the final result. That must really suck. I'm sorry that you're one of those kids. And yes, Taft was a special place to be in the 60's and 70's.
Very nice tribute. Some of these people I knew from Parkman Jr. High. Some I am sorry they have passed as they were good people. There are two here that l have unpleasant memories of and will just leave it at that. 😉
