Find pleasure amongst the suck.
Hybrid Athlete.
I'm a 2:39 marathoner interested in all disciplines of functional fitness; running, powerlifting, martial arts, calisthenics and holistically strengthening the mind to improve physical performance.
A sporty kid who lost touch with physical recreation once starting his professional career, eventually spiraling into a depressive episode - work, sleep, party, rinse, repeat.
Today, I exercise for the purpose that the process of training for a competitive event provides me.
My goal is to inspire my younger, depressed self by educating, providing knowledge, and opening up about my life experiences (good and bad), perhaps, you will relate.
If you ever want to contact me, please DM me on Instagram or by email. I'll try my best to reply to most messages.

Hey bro do you still train? Just found your channel today.
Amazing journey, James! 🚀 I’m a video editor with over 8 years of experience in short-form content creation, motion graphics, and VFX. I’d love to help you bring this incredible project to life. Let’s connect if you’re looking for an editor who can keep up with your exciting pace! 🎬
Watching this back after a year and wanted to say "look at you now Jim. You have achieved so much. This training and discipline has clearly helped you achieve great professional achievements in your creative business. Well done."
Actually that's not correct well he did run from Marathon to Athens it wasn't 26.2 miles. The 26.2 me actually came about I think around the early 1900s. A marathon was always different up until that point. But it's solidified as some royal family wanted the marathon to end in front of their box. The marathon for that Olympics was set at 26 miles. For it to end in front of their box they had to add an extra .2 miles. That's why it's 26.2 MI
more food challenge video and show your body before vs after eating
Great video - you're handy in the kitchen. You're food looks impressive, will try better tomorrow.
great content, liking the vibes of your videos. i saw another vid your an aerospace engineer, what exactly is your job role? :)
Thanks! I quit. 🤣
love the commentary after, awesome stuff
any gels? noticed that little bag at the end under the top ha
Had a 20g carb gel every 20 mins
nice, im thinking of time-trialing tomorrow and aiming for 120 (didnt think i would be anywhere near but did a 10k t.t. a couple of weeks ago aiming for sub 38 and it came just sub 36!). i usually only have 2-3 on 18-20 mile runs though, so may go for one at the half-way point and one before :)@@JamesWard-SlimmJimmy
great stuff, what was your weekly mileage say 3 months prior?
Nothing crazy - around 50 miles per week
Where do you incorporate running in this?
Crazy good video! You deserve thousands of subs. Well done bro, just competed in a Powerlifting meet this weekend and this video got recommended to me
Thank you mate! I appreciate your message. How did you get on at the powerlifting meet?
Like your presence - great encouragement with clarity - Thankyou. Would like to know in minutes and miles
Thank you for your great feedback! Noted, will add conversions in the future.
Great stuff James! 22 months or running training is great and the $1M question is what was your fitness base you started from? 🤔
Thanks! I frequently trained BJJ before lockdown and a lot of functional exercises with circuits in the gym (one of those infuriating blokes using 3 pieces of equipment at once - training like somebody hurt me 😭) My first run was 11km at a 5:05 /km pace at max effort for context.
@@JamesWard-SlimmJimmy its great to know the context and whatever our previous background, its amazing how we adapt to a new sport, which you clearly have done and proven so well James. Keep up the great work!
P r o m o S M
Too much intensity in one week, lucky if you can get away with this type of training.
I stayed fairly injury free throughout this block and ran a 1:17:29 with 16 months of running experience, however, I do agree that it is possibly too much intensity, and I was fortunate to not suffer any significant injuries. This being said, I improved my pace and vo2 max so quickly and I got away with it because my weekly mileage wasn't anything crazy. Nowadays, I stick to 80/20 with 20% being at a higher intensity/more explosive
@@JamesWard-SlimmJimmy Very lucky. If you can sustain that type of training then you'll definitely get faster, of course, I just wouldn't be advising it to the masses. How old are you? I think in your 20's you can get away with this stuff a lot more.
It’s cool to see you going for an ultra- they’re far less daunting once you’ve done a few! Pace is out the window for most (especially on gnarly trails) for those who run them and you focus on staying calm and enjoying the moment and just getting to the finish! All the best for training- look forward to seeing how it goes for you!
Solid advice, I appreciate the tips. Thank you! How many ultras have you ran?
I'm preparing for the Bataan Death March now
Wow, that's for a great cause. How far is it?
Is there anyone, who didn't learn that in school...?
😂 apparently some people have never seen 300
Ultra X England is in September in the Peaks, you can do one of the days or both
This sounds interesting! Ideally I'd like to race in October so that I have more time to get in more specific training, however, I'll keep this in mind before deciding. Thank you!
epic video, come join me on 50 miler in 2 weeks
Thanks mate. 2 weeks is too soon for me bro, haven't been consistent enough to race then. I'm looking around October/November. Best of luck with it mate! Which race are you competing in?
Haha, this is what happens when you watch too many David Goggins videos!
🤣 stay hard.
I'm glad you're taking the step towards Ultras and that you've found your motivation again. There's a series of runs (50k, 100k, and 110 miles) in early October with a running company called Climb South West. It's on the north coast of Devon so It's pretty hilly but the views are very rewarding. There's no 50 mile race like you want but it's worth checking out.
Thank you mate. 🤔 Decisions... That sounds very enjoyable. Will check it out!
You never cease to amaze me James! Great video again! Can't wait to follow the journey xx 🫶
Thanks Em! ♥️ xx
The only training tip you’ll need for a trail ultra: elevation, elevation, elevation. Run up and down hills every single run. You’ll regret it if you don’t.
Thanks, I appreciate the tip! I've got more research to do regarding training strategies and fueling, however, I have heard about setting weekly elevation targets and prioritising that over weekly mileage.
@@JamesWard-SlimmJimmy a weekly elevation target has worked wonders for me in my current block. Will never go back to distance targets again for trail blocks. Have been trying to hit 1600m elevation a week training for a 50k with 1000m elevation for context.
Nice, best of luck! My hiking sucked and my quads felt too weak when I ran downhill at the Malvern Midsummer Marathon recently. I'm planning to do a lot of single-leg eccentric quad exercises in my strength & conditioning workouts to help with my lower body strength/durability
Great video, could you upload your full 12 week plan somewhere?
this is missled
Haha beer, bread and pizza after a marathon for sure 😂
Haha indulgence mode activated
Love your content as usual! Only note is: creatine is an amino acid, not a carbohydrate 😊
Only just watched this one bro, most inspirational vid yet, felt proud watching it. Well done for thinking on your feet and finding a new challenge to test yourself.
