It was so obvious that Vicky couldn't stand how beautiful Susanna was/is. She tried hard to look sexy but just didn't. Had that jealousy not been prevalent, the band would have been ever more successful. Vicky wasn't even a very good guitarist. Sad but true.
In 1994 when the GoGo's reunited for a tour, they took advantage of the breakup of the Bangles to call Vicki Peterson as lead guitarist to replace Charlotte..pregnant. (They didn't call the beautiful Susanna). Judge for yourself who was the best guitarist in the band.

0:02 The big mistake the Peterson sisters made was removing Kahne. Kahne's methods were unwelcome and he also overdubbed Susanna, Vicki and Debbi (not Micki). But Kahne was the only person who knew how to guide them, Rubin also understood that for the dynamics and for the very existence of the band it was appropriate that there were hits and covers sung collectively. Outside the United States until 1987 Susanna was not recognized as the leader of the band. In the collective imagination there were images of the Walk like an Egyptian video and the Hazy Shade of Winter video. After Sigerson became producer Susanna chose two of the best collaborators (Kelly and Steinberg) who had already made Madonna and Cindy Lauper stars and she truly became the biggest star of the band, however at that point the band became something very different from what it was originally and the breakup was inevitable.
Kahne made them a pop band. That's what they didn't want.
@Riri-oj1zs True! But their first album was Paisley and he allowed each of them to have a hit written or sung by them. He had them all sing chorally or individually. After him, Rubin who had appreciated the success of Walk Like An Egyptian produced Haze Shade of Winter sung chorally for the film Less Than Zero. Kahne, by attracting the ire of some of the Bangles, avoided tensions between them. After they pushed him away, tensions exploded. He was the band's lightning rod.
I really haven't heard their new albums yet but I do like listening to the Different Light album cause I think this album was their greatest accomplishment with great songs from all 4 ladies!

Virtually ALL of this video is wrong. Eternal Flame was not liked by anyone in the band EXCEPT Hoffs. She argued to keep the song on the album. It was her song from the beginning to the end.

The Bangles broke up because the other members in the band became jealous of Susanna. It's a shame that the other members couldn't handle Susanna becoming a bigger star. It would be like the Rolling Stones breaking up because Mick jagger was the biggest star.
The Bangles broke up because at least one of them didn't understand that a band is like a sports team. If you win you win together, if you lose you lose together. If one (or more) of them wants to be superior to the others and plays more for herself, the team crumbles. It happened to The Beatles, Pink Floyd and many other bands....among women to the GoGo‘s. The Bangles needed each other. ALL THAT MATTERS IN LIFE IS FACTS. After 10 years from the first breakup, Susanna resigned herself to the lack of success of her solo career and asked her husband to help her to try to reunite the band. He had to apologize to Debbi and Vicki. With Vicki's help they also managed to reunite Micki for a while. After Micki left for good, the Bangles released one studio album in 20 years and no hit singles.....despite Susanna. THESE ARE THE FACTS THE REST IS JUST CHAT, CHAT AND MORE CHAT.
@@giampi180 If any one member was to fault for the breakup of the Bangles, it was Debbie. She was the one that was resentful that she wasn't automatically handed the lead vocals on Walk Like an Egyptian, she was the one that resented Susanna being seen as the pretty one. Debbie was also the one that went to Vicki to cause divisions within the band rather than calling a meeting of the full band when she had issues. Susanna tried for SEVERAL years to get the band back together, but Debbie always refused. It wasn't until they were both mothers and they re-bonded due to their shared motherhood that Debbie was willing to put the band back together. These things can be seen by watching interviews of what Debbie herself said! As for your sports team analogy, some members of the team are far more popular and well known than other members of the team. The issue with the Peterson sisters, especially Debbie, is that they couldn't handle Susanna being the face of the band. A team like the Kansas City Chiefs wouldn't prosper long if every member of the team were resentful of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce because they got more attention. The other members of the Chiefs realize that they have a job to do, and it is OK if they aren't the most popular member of the team. Debbie couldn't do this, and to a lesser extent, neither could Vicki. Susanna couldn't help that she was the one that the magazines were interested in talking to and the one that the fans were most interested in knowing more about. As far as the solo career goes, many 80s acts had trouble connecting with listeners in the 1990s and Susanna was more successful in her solo career than the Bangles have been since reforming their band. BTW, for someone that preaches to know the facts, you can't even get it right that the Bangles released two albums since reforming: "Doll Revolution" and "Sweetheart in the Sun". Don't preach about "the facts" when it seems that you just make most stuff up or leave out important facts within this discussion! Typing a full sentence in all capital letters doesn't win the debate for you and it doesn't give you the final word in the discussion! It seems that you know you are wrong, but simply cannot admit it, which is why you want to use typing in all capital letters as some type of trump card.

@@giampaolo1647 I wasn't saying that they were a "female Rolling Stones" I was making a point that the other members couldn't handle that Susanna was a bigger star. The other issue is that the Peterson sisters saw themselves as being the "John and Paul" of the band, and they saw Susanna and Michael as being the Ringo and George. The Petersons basically saw themselves as being the senior members in the band and the others as lesser members.
Giampi180, the one that didn't understand that was Debbi, who got jealous of all the attention that Susanna got. If you watch the Behind the Music episode, you can see that she was still jealous all those years later. As for your football team analogy, a football team wouldn't work very well if the offensive linemen all got jealous of the quarterback, and they started a bunch of infighting and tried to have every play drawn up where they would be the one that got the football rather than the quarterback.

Susanna is a fantastic woman (360°) but her success is also due to her bandmates. Her solo career is not comparable to her preceding career with her bandmates. 10 years later the breakup Susanna had to get help from her husband to mend relationships with Debbi and Vicki. Vicki achieved a feat comparable to the landing of man on the Moon and also reunited Micki for a while. But Micki also loved singing folk rock songs like Sandy Denny covers. It was like trying to get Bon Jovi and Frank Sinatra to coexist in the same band. Micki left. Since then, 20 years ago the Bangles made one album and no hits.

There are some inaccuracies in this post regarding Sinead's personal relationships. It is fairly typical of what has been posted on social media since her death along with the constant mispronunciation of her name! She was a gifted musician and a purveyor of truth through her music. She chose to take a stand against social injustice, and the hypocrisy of the Catholic church in relation to it's denial and cover up of sexual abuse. She was scorned and ridiculed for this and mostly by those who didn't have the intellectual capacity to understand her so it's easier to label her as "crazy , weird or unhinged!" Now that she's gone a spotlight is being placed on just how important and valuable her contributions were and how they served to open up a dialogue of acceptance and understanding when it comes to mental health awareness and in addition, acknowledging the pain of victims of domestic and sexual abuse of any kind. Sinead O'Connor's public stance on these issues has made its mark will not be forgotten. Her life's work is done, now may she rest in peace.🙏🌈☘️
