Tested with @dspiffy two years ago OTD, 8/26/2022. Around 1980, Hunter (then a division of Robbins & Myers, Inc.) changed to a 2.5 amp, two-speed shaded pole motor for their flagship "The Original" cast iron ceiling fans. Classic Fan Inc. of DeSoto, TX took advantage of a patent expiration on the old 1.9 amp motor to produce this cosmetically and mechanically virtually indistinguishable clone. ...

    This is so interesting that all the 1.9A motors on your channel perform so well. My 1.9A ~1977 Hunter original performs so bad (~150rpm on high) and this is after I cleaned it thoroughly and even replaced the bearing.

    Love these, pretty sure it’s the first SMC to use that style of blades. Then it was succeeded by the DP52, then the Elegant Series MR52V’s, as well as the Classic Series HCM52V’s, not sold in North America but common in HK and Macau

    Atlantic-Aire in the K-Mart days, if I recall. My childhood neighbor had the chrome motor version with a bowl light kit from factory and reversible high-gloss rosewood/high-gloss black blades. I moved out of that childhood house and across the country and haven’t been inside that house since 2005. We are friends on Facebook and through my mother. The living room just had a to-the-studs-and-joists renovation, and they reused the same ceiling fan again! The light was removed around 2010 when a minor renovation was done. The house was gutted, room-by-room, and a massive addition added. Several other cool fans were tossed. The living room Atlantic-Aire remains with the black side of the blades showing, to this day.

    8/2024...Great video! Fun place,....I went there with friends to House on the Rock around 1985. I was 32. It was a life changing experience. I was already an eccentric collector of quirky junk. I built sculptures from found junk. Like old musical instruments, early prosthetic legs, mannequin limbs. I could have gotten my hands on some old pipe organs that were being dismantled, 2 years ago. Both were coming from churches in working condition, but no interested parties. One was being taken apart and sold by the piece, at a local salvage warehouse reseller. I got to handle and (blow) on an early 1800s era, 4 ft. long, dusty, handcrafted, wooden pipe. It took a full breath to produce a mellow (pipe)organ note. It was more of a flute sound. Many organ pipes were made of metal. Early pipe organs produced sound by pumping bellows of air into the pipes. As a singular antique artifact, for sale, it wasn't cheap and I didn't buy it. I was collecting weird stuff, long before seeing "the House" collection.

      @@AidenCullinan-y5n I think it was more real, back in the 80s. Though even then I questioned exactly how the sounds were produced. I'd seen other self playing instruments that used small air pumps, and mechanical things. Hard to believe I was there 39 years ago. Those original machines, must have worn out dozens of times, and to extend the life of the illusion, one has to assume, they eventually upgraded them to use audio track recordings.

    I think your cell was pretty close around 3:50. You can sort of make out an RFD cut behind the rain curtains, and maybe it's just the illusion of the rain, but it looks like there was some tight rotation within those bands. At any rate, great initial positioning and perseverance to stay with this cell. You're gonna need more Rain-X after 14:03!

      Thanks, Michael! Yeah, that was probably its most visually impressive phase and it occurred before the storm was warned, the first tornado warning went out shortly after I left that location. Some chasers observed an apparent funnel with it a while later, but that must have occurred during the time I was stuck in the rain. Speaking of which, I haven't really used Rain-X on chases before...perhaps I should start!

Internally, the American made permanent split capacitor motor had the stator around the rim with a large rotor rotating inside of it, a similar configuration to the old-school shaded pole motors. They definitely fixed the motor issues in the newer Chinese made ones. I have a 2017 I bought new on my open front porch. Top-fill design, never added a drop since install in 2017. Still full as can be. (That’s what she said). The shitty blades even have almost no warpage, Hotel light kit looks great. It’s had the hell beat out of it from use and storms. Great fan. My gripe is that it is starting to rust. It’s Chestnut Brown, and when I do its yearly cleaning, you can see rust forming in the motor housing and blistering the paint. Don’t love that. My back porch I installed another brown Original, a 1985 with pecan blades. I put it up around spring 2020, and it was indoor from new prior to me buying it locally. Last year a notable blade split occurred, so I bought a set of NIB cane/pecan for it. Not period-correct, but pretty. Not sure how long they will last. Back porch is more open to weather on three sides, but screened. The brown paint on it is 100% rust/tarnish free, despite being soaked by storms several times. Definitely better paint jobs on the oldies. Sorry for the TL-DR, I just love my porch Originals lol.

    Never saw one in the wild. When I was single-digit age, these were for sale at Hechinger’s, off the shelf with blue blades. I remember Hunter catalogs with many colors. So rare and so cool! I think the cloths on the blades were even machine washable?

    Great aggregation of all these clips, and especially with the contrast editing. These storms were very difficult to see. Also, and I really mean this: you were freaking insanely unlucky this day. You were in all of the right places at the wrong times, by only about 15 minutes, in multiple instances. Maybe SW Iowa really is cursed for you? Your funnel was very much a tornado. Even if the NWS says the Afton East track stops at 7:46pm, I'm pretty confident there was ground circulation for a few minutes more. And it was definitely the same funnel I was driving alongside up the road on 169. So put it on the board! Also, we must have passed each other since I decided to bail south on 169 shortly after 8pm. Perhaps I'm the car you passed at 16:43 ? The headlights are kind of ovular like a 2009 Santa Fe's. Can't believe I missed this upload. I must have been stewing from my May 7th Michigan bust and went offline.

    • @AndreWehrle
      @AndreWehrle 2 місяці тому

      Thanks, Michael! Yeah, SW to south-central Iowa is a tough area to chase, although it certainly seemed to be the active spot this year. So, you weren't chasing in your Camaro this time? Ironically I was also in a Santa Fe, the 2021 that my brother-in-law "sold" to my wife and I in Dec. 2022 (the one that appears in your Keota video). We ended up giving the car back to him shortly after this (long story) but we found a low-mileage 2023 Toyota Highlander which should be my main chase vehicle going forward if all goes to plan.

    • @MichaelMcClellanWX
      @MichaelMcClellanWX 2 місяці тому

      @@AndreWehrle The Camaro's great for chases on solid paved road networks, but I can't really justify it on dirt roads, or if I'm going to be driving into hail. The Hyundai is cheap, high mileage and already depreciated to zero - nothing much to lose. That Highlander should last you and your wife for life!
