What Happened To Stealth Games?
Переглядів 39 тис.4 місяці тому
Stealth games are without a doubt my favourite type of video game, so it’s disappointing to realise the genre is severely lacking in entries. This past decade has seen the landscape of gaming develop immensely and somewhere along the way studios have decided that stealth-oriented games are not worth the time or money. I guess they still kept us waiting, huh? This is a poorly executed MGSV joke
maybe a stealth game where you are the guard, but like in a special facility with shadow-monsters or stuff so you have to hide and also make sure they do not escape
really sucks that we havent gotten a good stealth game since 2015 with MGS V its been 9 years...
They went into stealth.
I would pay so much money for a new PS5 stealth game, they should 100% remaster Splinter Cell and the Old Mission Impossible game back into something slightly new but rememberable. I do love the new Hitman games but I think it's not stealthy enough, like I want to be climbing through vents, scaling buildings or ab-sailing down them and hiding from cameras by going into the shadows.
The new spider-man games has some nice and satisfying stealth gameplay
Splinter Cell -> stopped being a stealth series and died with no new games Metal Gear Solid -> stopped being a stealth series and died with no new games Assassin's Creed -> stopped being a stealth series and died Thief -> terrible reboot and then died with no new games Hitman -> actually still getting new games and is still a stealth series that sells well Lot of choices we have, but even funnier how there's a clear reason why we don't get stealth series. It's not because stealth games are more niche (Soulslikes do just fine selling millions while being a niche genre), it's that all of the stealth series stopped being stealth series, sold poorly because of it, then died for obviously not being something that people wanted.
Its a crime against humanity that in no stealth game discussions do i see commandos behind enemy lines quoted often enough. That one and commandos 2 were fucking masterpieces. God how i miss good stealth games. If there is a genre im a stan of, its that one
Sniper elite 4 is an amazing stealth/sniper game. 5 is much less stealthy.
praying for a new splinter cell game to come out. but realistically, this is not happening
have you ever heard of spectre it is a very small game but it's like spies vs mercs
I can save you some time: the average person nowadays just doesnt have the patience or attention span to enjoy stealth games. in order words, the market is too small. thats what happend.
i didnt play games for ten years untill pve grayzone warfare scratched this itch better than anything without the learning curve and time expenditure of arma dont have much hope for the future of the game but oh well
You should try Intravenous 2 !
the games intravenous 1&2 & filcher are pretty good
Wildlands and Breakpoint have great stealth imo. Also, there are a bunch of good indie titles that are dedicated stealth games. Intravenous 1 & 2, Filcher are some of my recent favorites Lastly, the "new" Splinter Cell is supposed to be a remake of SC1, not a remaster.
if you want a good stealth game try intravenous 2, its great
igi man childhood hardships lol 😅
You threw in a stealth battle royals idea in and a small clip from transformers. I’ve always had an idea of a Transformers battle royal where you can sneak up on other players disguised as a random vehicle
There's a reason why stealth games are doing not so well. It is the CORE of stealth See games, and really anything in general follows a incremental succsess curve. In any zombie survival or TD game, you kill enemy, you progress x% towards the end. And this is also what gives us that boost of happiness. Secondly, any errors or mistakes either reduce the progression, or makes future progression harder. In REALISTIC stealth games, the opposite is true. You START off at 100% success rate, and ANY slip up means you go down to 0(realistically if you're seen and sussed out, the entire world knows) Which means the gratification is delayed till the VERY end. Now, games try and combat this either by making the information spread(as in you are seen/anything sussy happened) slow/preventable, but this feels not realistic. They also try and add in safe spots(as in to divide the level into many parts) but this also seems fake, since why the fuck would the guards decide to ignore one spot?
No word about Styx😢
Hey man, maybe they are just hiding? 😂
I really recommend everyone a game called Intruder, it's on Steam, it's an online indie fps but with a high focus on stealth, the developers call it a "stealth multiplayer experience". Only problem is that there's not a lot of players. I really like this game, give it a try
Yes, id love to see a rebirth of more stealthy military shooters, kinda like ghost recon but a tab more realistic and 1st POV. Imagine this for a game, SAS-Sabre squad, you’d play as one of a six man squad conducting covert reconnaissance, search and destroy and hostage rescue missions. I said SAS cause I’ve never played a game that truly depicts the SAS in any real manner. To give an example of a mission idea one could see you and your squad do a HAHO jump into enemy territory than have to hike to a target, let’s say an enemy compound, conduct reconnaissance of said camp with the potential HVT, than assault said target, kill or capture without alerting the compound and than sneak back out of the AO avoiding contact being as realistic as possible, I wanna almost be pulling my hair out with this game but also married for 50 years.
Stealth only games suck ass.
Splinter cell conviction is the only splinter cell game I've played, but it is one of my favorite stealth games. An absolute banger. As for stealth games to try, since you didn't mention them in the video I will bring them up here, the tenchu series and the aragami games.
Honestly, I like it as a game on its own merits, but I don't like it as a Splinter Cell game. The earlier games in the series gave you the option to avoid killing entirely, and required a little more care to remain hidden (crouching wasn't automatically completely silent, the suppressed firearms could alert guards because silencers don't actually make firearms silent, and there were more light levels than complete darkness and fully lit), and allowed you to move bodies around (typically to hide them to avoid raising the alarm, but you could just as easily put them into a guard's patrol route if you really wanted to. Chaos Theory was the one to remove the whole "alarm gets raised if a body isn't hidden, regardless of if you killed all the guards" and the "x amount of alarms is a game over" from earlier games in the series; allowing a more action based approach if you wanted to take it but still leaving you vulnerable enough that striking from the stealth was better than going in guns blazing. It was by far the best game in the series imo, simply for allowing a variety of approaches in a way that Conviction didn't.
Although mainstream stealth seems to be dead and buried, we still have some nice fan releases (mainly centered around Thief), such as the amazing Black Parade and the solid engine for fan missions that is the Dark Mod. (I can wholeheartedly recommend Iris mission from the latter). I'd also argue that the Dark Mod seems to be the peak of hardcore stealth genre.
A lot of smaller devs make for some really fun stealth sandbox games: I think it’s Focus that made sniper ghost warrior contracts 1 & 2. These games are sick and sadly very easy to write off. But the player a central objective and a bunch of tools on how to go about ot
come play assassins creed nexus on the quest 3 or batman arkham shadow
Escape From Butcher Bay. Still unique in it's stealth. Still looks amazing in 2024. Not easy to play it if you don't have a PC though
I would say Intravenous 2 is one of the best stealth games in recent years. It allows you to go loud or go stealthy. The AI of the guards are extremely intelligent as well. They would investigate bodies, blood stains or even missing teammates.
A good stealth game is intravenous
just play mgsv
Try ghost warrior contracts
Give me at least older splinter cell on ps5
While I've never been good at it and I've yet to play the Thief series, I really like the idea of "ghosting" in a stealth game where you get through the level or objective without killing or being seen and leaving enemies undisturbed. The problem with most stealth games or games that have stealth is at some point you are forced to kill or dispatch targets. Older stealth games seem to allow this playstyle better without the game ending up a silent action game. Great video and hopefully we all get lucky soon with a new gem.
But mind u now kojima announced he's working on a new espionage game after DS2
I think not fully embracing stealth is what angers me the most about the direction AC went in they were slowly getting close to making a great assassin game but cause they botched unity they had to turn it into a low brow loot rpg
We need another great visionary like kojima to bring stealth back in to the spotlight with an ORIGINAL game that is distinctive enough to stand on its own whilst having its own merits so it belongs with massive titles like metal gear or splinter cell. Nobody wants to take the risks like they would in the early 2000’s, i fee like we are going to hit a tipping point in the video games industry where we need originality because how many remakes or bombs like concord coming out
5:15 me and my mates and especially when i play siege with one of them we both frequently think of good ideas that can make the game better and its like how tf are we cooking more than the entire dev team that gets paid for specifically that. Like even just a twitter poll on suggestions would be so easy to do but they never do it
deus ex series played in full stealth is a good option there are so many ways to complete the levels like mgs and hitman also deus ex needs a third game adams story is unfinished and we need to see adam destroying the ilimunati and majestic 12 being born
Gone, reduced to "gameplay mechanic".
u have earned a sub good video keep it up
Okay but Ghost recon can essentially force you to use stealth if you just dont use the ui and crank up the difficulty
Dawg just play far cry or ghost recon or something literally every game has stealth like rdr2 or the new mw campaigns
they should make a stealth game kind of like r6, expect bigger maps, realistic things, and more modes, and a completely different game then r6, but similar in someways. idk how to explain it
I want a Dishonored 3 god damn it
Ghost of tsuhima. Yes, you can go loud, but it doesnt feel like stealth is an oversight. Its a distinct option you make each time if you go stealth or not and can change your loadout accordingly.
In Assassin's Creed games and Ghost Recon games you're able to stealth kill the vast majority of enemies in those games. So they are STEALTH action games. Hitman and Splinter Cell gives the option to go loud too. Does that mean that they aren't real stealth games? There's also, the Sniper Ghost Warrior games and the Last Of Us games. There's really no shortage of Stealth games. There's a shortage of high quality fps that have campaign modes. A lot of them are multiplayer only. Rainbow 6 Vegas 2, F.E.A.R and Black, still stand as being the best fps games. There should be more games like those.
Shouldn't payday 2 be also half stealth game? I mean the heists can be done in loud and in stealth, but there are some heists only in stealth🤔
