I never did a A/B test and I’m not a pickup maker but as far as I know they differ in construction in respect to magnets and coil windings and gauges. A Firebird pickup sounds more percussive and „single coil like“ than a Mini Humbucker with a classic humbucker construction. For this Melody Maker it was the perfect fit because it sounded a bit dark on its own and the Firebirds added the right amount of sparkle.

Many thanks 😊 and especially for your feedback on that details. I’ll show more of it next time. The guitar was plugged straight into the Super Sonic 22 amp and we used both channels.

I had to check it in my DAW because I couldn't remember it. the tuning is: low string: D / mid string: A / high string: D (one octave above low string). I'm using GHS 1000 El. Precision Flatwound 013/054 strings (only the thicker 3 ones of the set). But this instrument is perfect for experimenting with different strings and tunings.

True, the mallet sound is also my favorite one. I was really surprised when I discovered it. It doesn’t sound like it is made with a stringed instrument but it is.

I played guitar, drums and bass and recently bought a saz to get something new, but since i mostly produce and sometimes play stuff i would love to have a combination instrument. Also i dont have the money to buy strings atm. I neeeeed this haha

Hallo Otto. Genau, das Griffbrett hat noch keinen Radius. Dann klebe ich ein 40mm breites Tape aufs Griffbrett und auf das Aluprofil. Paar Tropfen Sekundenkleber hält das dann perfekt. Doppelseitiges Klebeband würde natürlich auch gehen. Ich finde, dass das Profil mit einem flachen Fräser schöner wird als mit einem abgerundeten.

@@frankcouture428probably a decal or paint underneath the clearcoat/varnish/oil. Defacing a penny (technically a crime), then feeding through an engraver (or CnC) is a lot of extra work for what is effectively a black circle with two letters of text.

By using two different profiles on each sides of the jig. This causes the aluminum extrusion to be slightly angled. The result is a tapered neck profile.

I would not recommend a cutter with a ball end. I use a bit with 12mm diameter, 2-flute, spiral up-cut with a flat end.

It is made of bog oak.
