E-flite Night Radian Drone Chase
I recently went to a public park to fly the E-flite Night Radian. While there, I met a gentleman who was flying his drone, and we decided to fly together. He got some great aerial shots!

Merry Christmas Viewers! I hope your holidays have been filled with Joy. I know mine sure were. Look what Santa brought! It’s an RC boat airplane. It looks like one of those hydroplane race boats. Yet it flies like an airplane. Reminds me of my “Skydro” project from 2019, although this one definitely flies better! I guess we could call this “Skydro II”. This is definitely a fun little vehicle, ...

Nice as ice... cream!! Great flight video. What kind of camera did you use? I have this exact F-16, and I use Hrv 6s 6000 50c batteries on mine. I've found the sweet spot to set the battery where I can come in for landings at a very high Alpha angle that it actually comes in as slow as a trainer, I shites you not, very slow. I put em about an inch right in front of the foam wall where the receiver sits on. So, you're flying at a golf course? Nice!!
@@TheMrskydog I used the RunCam 2 in this video, unfortunately the app doesn’t download videos over Wi-Fi anymore so I can’t see if the video worked at the field anymore unfortunately. Now I need to download the video to my laptop before I can see if the captured video is any good. All that is to say I plan to upgrade to Insta360 GO cameras for future videos. I ended up moving the battery back on later flights. As for the golf course, they changed ownership and kicked me out a year ago. Very unfortunate, as it was within a mile of my house. Now I have to drive a long way to fly, which has limited my flight cadence substantially. Still have a few unpublished videos from the golf course though so more to come from there!
Besides the nice maiden, good sound choice
Thank you! I’m glad that you enjoyed the video!

Cool flight, nice job editing the footage!

Great shots from the drone, Matt! A+ Matt.
Thanks Wild Bill! Yeah the footage was amazing!
God damn thats tail heavy
Oh boy! I’d forgotten how tailheavy it was on that maiden. I was using the same CG mark as the standard Viggen. Got it somewhat sorted out on flight 2, and it flew more stable on subsequent flights (off camera.)
Happy New Year, Matt!🎉🙂👍🏻 Nice display. 👏🏻🙌🏻👏🏻🙌🏻👏🏻🙌🏻
Thanks Randy! Happy New Year to you as well!

broo please start making DIY rc planes again, i used to watch you 3 years ago and i even made a plane like the one that you made with the edf
Well, I got a couple more “store bought” plane videos in the works, but I do definitely plan to continue with DIY planes. Been kinda busy the past couple of years with work and life and whatnot. I’ve had some DIY projects get sidelined by technical difficulties which are still being worked on. I’ve got quite a few ideas for more. I’m hoping to get more time and resources to be able to make those ideas a reality. Unfortunately, with my busy schedule, aircraft maidens and RC tech demos such as this have been all I’ve really been able to do. I am still working on a secret DIY project which should pan out in the new year, involving a plane with no vertical stabilizers. Thank you for your continued support and feedback!
Cool new toy Matt! Can't beat a 2 in 1 RC!! Cool pond too!
Thanks RedBeard! Every time it’s in boat mode I keep expecting one of our resident alligators to chomp it to bits!! 😂
@@AerospaceMatt LOL! That would end the fun quick! It would make a great video though. Happy driving/flying!
Santa needs a raise
Well, I gave him 4 cookies this year. I was told that was the minimum required amount due to inflation. 😂
Neat, Matt. Great gift! Enjoy. Happy New Year! Looks like a handful. Well done, Matt. 👏🏻🙌🏻👏🏻🙌🏻👏🏻🙌🏻👍🏻🙂
Thanks Randy! Very unique flying experience for sure! Could probably use a rudder for water ops though.
NIIIIIIIIIIIICE! I feel a Foamie Homie Shout-Out coming for this Sunday!
Much Appreciated Dave!
Literally the best Christmas gift.
Oh yeah! Who can complain about a flying boat?! I hope you had a very Merry Christmas my friend!
Yo Matthew guess what you finally bought my first rc plane it’s a prop glider.
Awesome! Have fun with that, those are very relaxing and enjoyable!
@@AerospaceMatt thanks will do
@@noobkill7542 Of course! Definitely make a video of it so I can see you flying it!
@@AerospaceMatt ok I will
What is the camera you’re using on your plane
It’s a standard RunCam2. I think they discontinued the 2 (and maybe the 4K version as well) but Insta360’s Go2 camera is a good alternative.
NOT CAMERA FRIENDLY PLANE! if you don't have your weight centered to the fraction of a millimeter you experienced exactly what you did
Actually, since this video I have learned the AR620 receiver can glitch causing a right roll if you pull full up elevator deflection on the stick while in high rates with said rates at or above 100 percent. This caused crash 3. 2 was entirely my fault for not putting down flaps as I thought I was closer to the trees. Crash 1 was without a camera and due to a mold discrepancy whereby the center point on the elevator is off. 80% and above up deflection on the elevator resulted in the right stab moving further and causing a right roll. I’m planning on making a video regarding the AR620 receiver glitch. Anyway, I bought a grey E-Flite F-18 and it flew fine with a camera. Here’s the link to the video if you’re interested. ua-cam.com/video/EF7kkXlTUHE/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
A bit late to the party. I also designed and built my own F16 70mm. It looks awesome but i could not get it to fly well. The engine overheated, the controls were insanely touchy, stall was extremely unforgiving, the landing was super fast and so on. I temporarily gave up but i plan to return soon :)
What KV motor did you have? I initially had one rated for 6S but only had 4s batteries at the time. So I switched to the 4s rated 64mm that I had laying around. Yeah I found it was touchy in roll because initially my ailerons extended the entire length of the trailing edge, WAY too much surface area. I ended up discarding the ailerons entirely and just used differential stabilators for pitch/roll. Expo is a good option for overcontrol. I had to trim some foam to get the weight down, weight could’ve been a factor in your motor burnout. Moving the battery forward will make stalls gentler and lessen the effect of the FCS, making it less touchy. Like TailHeavyRC I don’t mind a tad bit back as it helps with high alpha which is helpful for hand launching. Good luck with round 2 and happy flying!
@@AerospaceMatt My motor is a powerfun 70mm edf with 3400kv motor. The other issues were my own, so i can fix by using the correct servo travel and fix the air inlet. But the motor has a plastic shroud which prevents it from getting any air at all. The plane flies at 60 percent but it would lose speed at turns. I will redesign and build it again.
@@yatzeegamingop Is your EDF rated for 6s or 4s? I recall powerfun has 2 70mm EDF versions, one is 4s and the other is 6s. I don’t recall the difference in KV rating between the two. I have the 6s, and I can confirm it does have the plastic shroud. I feel like the engineers would’ve looked into overheating problems and concluded it was safe, which is why I wonder if you were shipped the 4s version. Also, passive air cooling isn’t the only factor causing a motor to burn up. I had to make an emergency landing with my Freewing 64mm F-22 4s when the motor quit 30 seconds into flight. Still don’t know why that happened, and it’s an out runner motor. If you are concerned about cooling, I can recommend using a drill and make holes in the plastic motor fairing (as I recall it connects to the exhaust vranes so you can’t outright cut it off.) This should provide some cooling, certainty more than its getting stock.
@@AerospaceMatt rated for 4s, i use it 4s. But compared to 6s it lacks significant thrust. I guess 6s on larger scale jets is just mandatory.
@@yatzeegamingop On the flip side, you can get away with less thrust if you lighten the airframe. I used foam board construction and worked with less glue. Believe it or not, the EDF in this jet was a 64mm 4s.
For me the drone keeps going ahead when I press launch
Perhaps your trim is set forward. Does it fly forward when just hovering? If not, it may be a new feature introduced on later models to allow it to get clear of obstacles near the launch site.
@@AerospaceMatt i just recalabrated the trims lol it fixed it
@@yinandyangoflife5139 Awesome! Glad that fixed it. Happy Flying!
Hey matt it’s me Logan from Wingate I saw this and remembered back tot hat first plane we KINDA made together the one that was just a plane no details just a plane and by together I mean you built it I have you the tools and I watched you do it it was made of white foam and a wing across the top that came off for the battery pack remember how it crashed on the sand field like 8 time before you came to the conclusion that and I quote “the receiver was backwards” but after some research we found out you had to re wire it because it was crosswired I miss you man.
Hey Logan! Boy we had some fun times! Oh yeah, I remember the beginning of my RC career well. The “Big Daddy” project. So you’re close. The receiver was fine as it had no gyro so it couldn’t be “backwards” but the Ailerons which give roll control and combined with the elevator are what make the plane turn were backwards. I had incorrectly assumed how they work, and it was opposite to how they actually work. This is a similar plane and you’ll be pleased to learn the wing also comes off on this!
👍 have a good one ! ...
Thanks!
Matt nice show, have a great weekend, wheels up. Jeff in LA USA

Wait no way really?!?! MUK Speedway? Wow. Well I hope it’s a good show! Can’t imagine people being too happy about it though!😂
What's best for reapplying decals that have come off and flapping around?
Are we talking actual water slide decals or stickers? I haven’t had issues with water slide decals (yet) although I did have one rip off in a crash, but that’s because the decal was in the crumple zone. I’d try to re-apply the water slide decal with water. If that doesn’t work honestly I’d just use clear packing tape. Same goes for stickers. You would only see it up close anyway. Maybe if you want it to look scale and not shiny close up you could try to put some school glue from a glue stick on it. I’ve never tried, but it’s a thought. Hope this helps!
Really cool plane
Absolutely. Great flyer as well!
item 1 - 105 a zero-zero thrust line should be used, with electric power. item 2 - the use of hoerner wingtips in the design of a tiny wing is not recommended. (any wing 'smaller than 1:1 scale' is a tiny wing.) item 3 - 138 the span of a horiz-stab does not need to be greater than thirty percent of the wingspan. item 4 - the design of a dihedral wing should include a Center Section. d
Thank you for those great points. I’ll refer to this comment next time I’m building something. As for this SIG Seniorita, my friend bought it already built and I believe it had originally been flown as a gasser before the previous owner converted it to electric.
Nice flying area, Matt, much better than that crocodile infested golf course. Good video! 👍🏻
Yeah but unfortunately it’s a little ways away. Still trying to figure out how to land on the runway as it’s an X shape and not perpendicular to the pilot stations.
NIIIIIIIIIIIICE job, Matt-O! What a cool RC Airfield and what a great couple of flights! 😁👍
Thanks my friend. If you come down here this year you might be able to be there for the maiden of the unique concept aircraft I teased at the end!
@aerospacematt9147 Now you're hedging where I go this Summer......😁👍
Matt great flying, the SIG Seniorita is a great flying plane. What a great field. Jeff in LA USA
Thanks Jeff! Yeah it’s a great field. Grateful that it’s a FRIA. Unfortunately I do have to drive a half hour to get there unlike the 5 minute walk to the golf course but it’s something.
What, the darkstar is the SR-72 basically
There are actually many differences between the fictional “X-72” DarkStar and the very real SR-72 “Son of Blackbird”. They have almost identical planforms (silhouette as viewed from the top or bottom) back to the empennage where the trailing edge of the wing differs. That is the end of the similarities. DarkStar is manned, and achieves speed in excess of Mach 10 through a dual mode SCRAMJET. SR-72 is unmanned, and allegedly capable of Mach 6 using a dual mode RAMJET. Not as powerful as a SCRAMJET but definitely higher speed as a result of separating the two engines instead of building a combined hybrid like on SR-71. The final obvious and visible difference is the DarkStar has 2 vertical stabilators that are all moving like on SR-71, and are also canted inward. SR-72 Son of Blackbird has one large traditional vertical stabilizer/rudder. It’s easy to mistake one jet for another and the differences are like that of the F-15C to the F-15E.

hi whats the best cg for gray and for blue angel/..cheers from dubai
I had success at about 75-80mm back from the Wing Root LE. It’s a tad nose heavy but a bit of trim will fix it.
My F-18 uses a 8s. Lipo .6500 mAh 80 c . I run mine close to the Wing.... half in .. and I also have a center burner on mine.. is it more of a realistic look...
@@kevincombs1618 Wow! 8s on the E-Flite F-18? I bet that’s a bit challenging to fit the batteries in there! Barely enough room for the 6s!
@@AerospaceMatt hey how you doing mat.. don't believe it or not it fits perfect. It's a 7000mah.60c 8 s it fits perfect is a tight squeeze but it works... @@AerospaceMatt hey Matt how you doing... I know the 80 mm hornets or discontinued... But you can still buy them out of China...... You got to go through RC Castle... And they will hook you up with the people that's in the same warehouse they still make the E-flite. 80 mm it cost about $100 more but shipping is free...
