Hey mate shiraz is a city first of all and is located in Iran it is famous for its wine and famous poets and when that Scottish fellow brought the varietal to Australia he has heard that story that crusaders brought this varital from Persia ( Iran ) to France somehow he liked the story and decided to call it shiraz ,thats how Australian shiraz has been born has got nothing to do with wrong spelling ok , even thought it has been probed that vine is actually from France and has got nothing to do with city of shiraz but still people love to call it shiraz

Great chat and information. I wanted to research about tannins in general, so they are present in acorns for example which makes them unpalatable to us. Makes sence after listening to what you said. Explains why squirrels bury them, I know grapes annd acorns are different but the principle appies all the same. Great stuff, cheers.
