    Now here is a guy who really doesn't understand anything mechanical... and so it at the mercy of others to do everything. That is an expensive and helpless place to be. RV repairer are notoriously bad and expensive. Bad luck.

    • @ChristopherIves
      @ChristopherIves 28 днів тому

      @@captlarry-3525 There was never a question of if I personally could fix it. It's a financial and time decision to decide if it's worth it to do custom repairs and wait for insurance to dance around parts lists, OR, just let insurance total it, collect the value and go buy one that's already in full working order. The later sounded most reasonable to me.

  • @captlarry-3525

    with that much into it... I guess your only choice is take the money and buy another... but any hand person is going to fix it... fiberglass is easy. Maybe hard to make it beautiful, but easy to make it whole and workable.

    All easy and typical problems to fix on a used older motorhome, then you got rear ended and threw it away. Have it totaled get 24k from the insurance and buy it back for 500 to 1,000 bucks and fix it yourself with $23,500 to spend.

    • @ChristopherIves
      @ChristopherIves 8 місяців тому

      The damage estimate was over $30k all said and done. I did let them total it but I have no desire to buy it back - the accident basically slightly broke 100 different things and cracked the fiberglass shell. If had a shop, maybe, but It's beyond driveway work. Stay tuned for my new project!

    Between some strong duct tape, some caulk, and some paint from home depot, I'd rig that up and ride. Especially after spending $24,000. Use screws to tighten down anything that's loose. As long as the engine and drive train are good, you got you something. That's not enough damage to scrap the truck.

    Totaling a car/truck/rv is an insurance company's scam to avoid paying higher costs for repairs. If its totaled they only pay out the blue book value. They wanted to pay my 1200.00 for my Nissan but I took it to a lawyer and got 5500.00 and kept the Nissan.

      I've lived nomadically in vehicles and out of backpacks for over a decade and never had a sink of any size. So to me, it excessive to have two sinks within 4 feet of each other. I'd gladly use the kitchen sink for all things and have more space in a shower stall, but that's my preference - and why I was surprised.

    Sad for you and the RV. I just tried to buy a 22 year old RV however it fell through when seller just went screwy on me. Meantime still looking. Came across your video today and hard to say I actually enjoyed it...I mean this poor RV and so glad you weren't injured. I was rear ended 2X's living in Fort Collins CO. Once pushed my back end including gas tank in six inches. After that always smelled gas fumes in the trunk. Never in the main car though. A tiny Civic brandnew hit me and I suspect was a total loss. The second time a classic Jeep slammed same rear end. It's amazing what a little rear ending can do. Meantime I think perhaps you over paid at 24K after finding it was a junked-rehab. "You need to just start and just do ... You need to start walking on the path to get where you want to go." This is awesome. I feel like so many people, especially with technology and whatnot, have these idealized worlds of themselves made up in their minds where they have things they want to do, places they want to go, things they want to see. Almost like they live these lives in their heads that they WANT to live, but don't actually do what it takes to live that life. I love your thought process, and it can apply to literally anything. It's been something that I've been trying to live my own life by.

    • @ChristopherIves
