@Psynergi yeah I think that's the healthier approach, more players = more testing. Also, same - had some friends who didn't shell the 250 and can join now!

totally agree i bought A2 for 250$ and idc if they reopen as long as pricing is fair 40-70$ or i can see a problem why ppl who bought packs get mad.. that range is pretty much regular price for games these days and we need to understand they did say thats the end of A2 sales and prob alot of ppl bought the packs cuz of that on the last day..myself idc even if it was 20$ i bought the pack cuz i wanted to test the game i got ingame curency and half a years of gameplay without subscription thats almost worth the full price of pack.. and yeah more players is better there are few games comming this fall that gonna take some of testers away.. 50$ is not a bad price considering game will be adding new stuff untill full relese on a faster rate that curerent games where u wait for new content for a year+ thats means even if not gonna play for 60 days theres gonna be tons of new stuff u can test/playtrough.. i just really hope hardest part of development is behind us with servermeshing and everything.. soo A2 wont be any longer than 2 years..

Dude that's so true. I don't think there's ever any going back, sadly, information is just expected to be shared. I love watching videos that talk about systems and mechanics within a game design, though, and it's allowed developers to create more complexity and cool systems they wouldn't be able to if every player had to figure EVERYTHING in an mmo out themselves.

haha yeah i'd love to see any other model anyone else could put forward that both funds a developer to put out live content but also values a player's time. it boils down to a "sub" fee whether its a large sum once a year or a modest sum month by month. or a pay for advantage mtx store.

I hope that at the VERY least developers will hear the community on this. Clearly many are hoping AoC will bring the change, which means we want it. If ashes doesn't/is unable to succeed then maybe it'll spark someone else to carry the torch. But, of course, I hope it doesn't involve ashes failing 😀

I think in this case it's most likely to be your first option. Reasoning is this: they're stopping selling packs. Now, Intrepid have been a little wishy washy on if it really is the end of the sale of packs forever, they kind of are wanting to hold the right to sell again if "testing needs it", but I'm hoping sales are done so the 2nd option isn't possible at all. I also think that Steven truly wants a game released that he would want to play, or at least his very good marketing skills have convinced me of that. But, it is so hard not to be jaded as an MMO gamer these days so I understand the feels.

Thanks for the thoughts, I think it's really good to be critical of the project! Just a quick couple of clarifications here: first the game is incredibly unpolished and a big part of the open development process Intrepid is taking means they're showing us rough footage that is not pre-rendered, unlike Chrono Odyssey. This means it's going to look worse than a lot of these "first look" trailers of MMOs in UE5 popping up over the last year - I've found myself having these initial concerns as well! Also, Ashes is 100% in Unreal 5 already, so they have the tools to polish as they dev. Graphics aside, I do think a large part of the dedicated AoC community feels this project is leading the genre through the gameplay systems that push social engagement, dynamic server states, and meaningful player interaction. Most MMOs have moved away from developing these in favor of much easier LFG queues and "bite-sized" player engagement - which works for some people but have left the rest of us behind. Thanks for the comment, I think there is always room for critical discussion regarding this project!

​@@droog_plays What concerns me is exactly what you just said, the game is unpolished and that's on over 7 years, the game is not even near a full release... Surely all those new MMORPGs are not as good as their trailer show (Maybe?) but I noticed that the gameplay shown on Archeage 2, Chrono Odyssey, and a few other MMOs that were made on Unreal 5 from the beginning, all have the exact gameplay which means it's more likely for those games have those cool action gameplay with dodge, monster block etc than just be something they made for a trailer... Now comparing the showcase of some of ashes of creation boss fights... It's like the distance between Earth and the heavens haha I might be exaggerating a little but yh... Ashes doesn't look as good as it should for the development time... Their mistake was starting the development with very little staff and being greedy in developing a battle royal version of the game lmao, but I'm not a hater, I watch every single video on youtube of the game and I bought the package as I mentioned, but as a ''new'' game company intrepid will struggle to compete with XLgames and other Asian game companies

Oh and I know they moved the game to Unreal 5 as well, but besides the game environment, and character creation, nothing else looks that amazing, even black desert still looks better so far and its an ''old'' game but sure, I hope they manage to get the game ''up to date''

How many of those "better looking games" have shown real gameplay and not just clipped together a bunch of 2 second long cinematic clips that most likely don't represent actual gameplay?

I agree fully, it's easy to show pre-rendered UE5 clips that look nice but until you give us substance, and/or guarantee me no P2W model, I'm not interested. That's what AoC has over all the other project, imo, they show us the project being developed with live play sessions - regardless of how impressive it is or isn't for each dev update at least it's something real. And honestly? Graphics are bottom tier priority for me.
