Clearly Hall does not understand that brevity is the soul of wit.

please make more videos like this! this was the only one that actually made me understand this topic! you could get really successful from this - if you do make more, please do more on the subject of communication and media theories! i cannot seem to understand hegemony, etc.

Can someone tell me how Hall’s theory is anything more than a rehash of Barthes death of the author? I understand that Barthes didn’t say exactly what Hall is saying, but he did say that the audience plays a significant role on the construction of meaning. It seems that Hall is just explaining how Barthes is correct. That’s fine but I feel like it should be much more clear that Barthes is the real theorist here.

This is a relatively old video but I like how what really confirmed to me that you were Filipino wasn't even the usage of the PTV logo (I was only half paying attention so I missed it the first time around) but when you used Nature's Prophet as a graphic everytime you mention nature lmao. But anyways, great video!

  • @bhagyashreeprabhutendolkar1206

Wish Hall could also explain it so well in a simplified way

  • @bhagyashreeprabhutendolkar1206

Thank you sos o much fpr this video. Most easiest and simplified expalnation ever of this theory. Was struggling with encoding, decoding so much but got it easily after your video. Quite in hegemonic position of your content ;)

Great video. Most videos on Hall and representation focus only on sterotyping and forced-upon media images and totally blend out his semiotic ideas about encoding/decoding.

Hi everyone! Thank you all for the all the likes, kind words and for getting this to 12k views! I made this video just over a year ago as a class requirement and was proud enough of it to archive it publicly here on my channel, hoping it would maybe help a few students who stumbled upon it. I've not been able to make similar videos since, though seeing all the people who found this helpful certainly makes me want to. That being said, are there any similar topics, concepts, or theories you'd like to see me cover in the same style as this video?
