The world's largest mammal migration at Kasanka National Park, Zambia
Every year, 10 million straw-coloured fruit bats migrate to Kasanka National Park from all over equatorial Africa. The local communities benefit from the revenue generated by ecotourism and direct employment. Currently, illegal clear cutting for industrial agriculture threatens both the livelihoods of the people and the bats.

Dr. Merlin Tuttle has been studying and photographing bats worldwide for more than 60 years, and still going! He's the founder and current executive director of Merlin Tuttle’s Bat Conservation (MTBC) where he is now currently active. He previously founded and led Bat Conservation International (BCI) for 30 years, then left BCI in 2009.
Merlin’s unique photography and communication first led to global appreciation of bats as safe, invaluable, even cute, and likable. No one has better demonstrated the power of combining captivating photos with sound science to win friends instead of battles for bats. Nor has anyone better demonstrated how conservation can benefit humans. Merlin’s legendary photos and experience provide invaluable guidance and inspiration that must be preserved and shared for future generations.

Bat Fears in Perspective

Merlin Tuttle shares the plain and simple truth about bats and the common yet unfounded fear of them. People seldom protect, and often despise, or even kill, animals they fear. This makes bats exceptionally vulnerable. Throughout history, they have been objects of fear and hostility across many cultures, and biased media coverage has framed bats as exceptionally dangerous virus reservoirs, with...

What to do if find one during the day on the ground, put it up high to take off and bat flew for a moment and went back to the ground What to do?
Would love to see an update to this
Thank you for your work. Ignorance is the most dangerous thing in the world. There is so incredibly much to appreciate about bats.
I think the reason why vampire bats can take off from the ground is because they drink blood when they’re standing on the animal if they ever fall off, they can easily fly back onto the cattle just a theory
Nandor: BAT!
Thank you. This is absolutely stunning. What a wonderful planet we inhabit.
everyone who drinks tequila needs to appreciate the pollinator. this must be the rule
This is such a beautiful place to visit. Seeing the bats was one of my favourite experiences ever 🤗
I thought they couldn't take off well from the ground and thats why they hang
Resued hundreds of bats maybe im.exaggererrating but believe all my bats rescued underlining 4 me!!! We create our own heaven while on earth I believe!!!
Amaz video..thru out my fishing life I rescued hungry when night fishing. Amazing, misunderstood of gods wonderous creatures..
cute lil goober
When Dracula had wine instead of blood tonight
Man, while I was reading things like "pterosaurs may have took off like vampire bats" I was not understanding what they were meaning with catapult like motion. Now I can CLEARLY picture what they were saying
So beautiful.🖤🇨🇦
Fricking liars! They told me bats COULDNT jump off the ground!
Vampire bats are different. Theyre the only bats that can run and take off like this. They have stronger and longer limbs allowing them to gallop.
Poor cute moth
Maybe it's the lighting but her one eye seems darker than the other one Eva was always a trip to listen to😂 Ya gotta love her 🎉
Yooo that is so so cool!!
Zambia ku chalo, spectacular ❤❤❤wonderful work

Great video! is it easy to go up to where the bats emerge from the cave entrance?
Flying death muffins
I need to buy a bat. They sprayed new mosquitoes in our area and these things are vicious.
I cant help it omg😍😍😍😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰
Careful vampire bats suck ur blood
I'm rewatching old episodes of reading rainbow with my first grade and guess who's on this particular episode? MERLIN TUTTLE!! I feel a bit silly getting emotional over this but I've just had the realization that he's been fostering my love of nighttime pollinators and bday conversation since I was a child and now I'm sharing that with my children (my oldest is 20, youngest 5). ❤
Quad launch, interesting
Merlin is an absolute badass. What a wild life he lived.
Looks like bob saget
this music is terrible
❤❤
Batman saving the city 🌆
Found you via Allie Ward, one of the most interesting people I've heard on the show.
Nice to see the agave, but it looks quite ignored
If Jack Hanna was there it would have been amazing moments
Thank you for doing amazing job
Beautiful work! Wonderful footage, production and message. I’m so happy to know these hardworking, passionate people….help spread the awareness of our beloved bats and the communities that depend on them!
Absolutely phenomenal. Thank you for capturing this vital moment, Joey Chapman!!
Thank you for bringing awareness to the world about the amazing contribution bats have on the entire world. Urban, rural, or completely wild lands all require the behind-the-scenes “actors” to keep things balanced. I hope there are good people within their govt that will help to enforce the laws established for the national park there. Though investment in some areas is vital for a country to sustain & grow for the people living there, it doesn’t mean that every investor is worthy of doing business with. Those that ignore the importance of maintaining natural lands should not be given an opportunity in the first place. Lack of respect for existing laws, means lack of respect for the country & people as whole.
More people watch this NOW
Did the 4 comments make it obvious?
The Straw Coloured Fruit Bats are exquisite. I have a passion for ALL bats, and each fills a critical role in the ecology of our Mother Earth. I have nothing but disgust for those who destroy habitat in the name of “investment opportunities”. There need to be severe consequences for these people who are driven by greed alone. Thank you for sharing this with us.🖤🇨🇦
Incredible
I would like to say I'm here to appreciate the vampire bat for its own sake But Quetzalcoatlus
Great collaboration
1st time saw bat face
I have loved bats my entire life…and there is no such thing as an ugly bat.🖤🇨🇦
Glad your back making videos. Love this channel!👍
