I’m gonna be honest that Dawntrail wasn’t really hitting with me until this zone. This is by far the saddest I’ve ever been through the entire MSQ. My dad died suddenly a few years ago (when I was 22) and nothing has been the same since. There have also been several other deaths (some still in progress) but that one affected me the most. I actually had to stop playing many times throughout this zone because it was just too painful. I think the reason this part of the story is so effective is because to those of us who have ever lost someone, Living Memory is the paradise we fantasize about basically all the time. The game doesn’t try to tell us that it’s fundamentally wrong for dead people to still be alive-it’s actually great. Wouldn’t we all want this, if it were possible? The reason it’s wrong is because they’re killing other people to continue existing, which is not only morally reprehensible but unsustainable. The laws of physics, time, the universe, simply won’t allow it. That is the tragedy. That there is no way to cheat death. But if we could, there is nothing some of us wouldn’t do to just have five more minutes, three more minutes, one more minute, even 30 more seconds with our dead loved ones. To have the last moments Wuk Lamat, Erenville, and Krile were able to experience with their parents. This zone shows us a fantasy just barely out of reach and then rips it away from us. Fucking awful (amazing).

After the emotional turmoil crying hearing the zone music in the final zone of Endwalker, this upbeat shit is almost enough to get me back into the game.

Beautiful song. It goes hard. With Sphene and the villagers talking in the background and the map slowly becoming more darker and destroyed, it was actually a pretty emotional dungeon. Every time I do expert dungeons in roulette I always hope it is this one.
