I'm always getting 3.7-3.8 kwh and at over 46,000 miles on my 2021 4 yr lease id4. Coast driving as much as possible. I'm glad someone beside me love the id4 since it came. Going for a used etron in May 2025 when I return this.

Nice video. Unfortunately not all the tricks work on my 2024 European model. So they are either legacy features or US only. But I am taking the seatbelt trick with me. I am not able to close the trunk from inside or with the key. Only by pressing one of the two buttons on the trunk itself. Also not able to roll down the windows with the key.

I wished i saw this video sooner. i got stranded at a ski resort parking lot and waited for 3 hours for family to bring the spare key!

Thanks for the balanced review. The one point you didn't mention at the end when recommending the ID.4 is the fact that the 2024 RWD has significantly more power, torque and efficiency than the 2021 as well as improved software.

As an ID.4 First edition owner, I totally agree with the presenter. Love the car and will buy it again. I had no issues opening the hatch using the soft soccer kick action. I live in the Bay area and get 3.7 miles/kWh. I want to buy BYD car next, I wish the US didn't put 100% import duty on Chinese EVs. EVs are awesome, don't miss the smell of gas.

How about: you purchased an ev from a legacy auto witch provide barely any charging infrastructure that can be relied on. Hopefully you can borrow teslas infrastructure. Vw can not reduce the price enough. Id rather grab a gm ev[which is not a good idea].

It may be time for you to change your brake fluid. Just a suggestion, if the rear button bothers you that much, why not tape it over? The rear passengers can open their own windows. I don't have problems with accidently touching any buttons but that's probably because I have small hands. I drive with my hands on 10 & 2 position mostly but even when I keep them on 9 & 3, I still have yet to trigger anything by accident. Great and informative video. :)

I'm glad that you haven't had any issues. My neighbor still loves his four year old ID4. His ID4 has been a nightmare of software issues, including several weeks of the car not being able to run at all due to a failed software update. His car also will just shut down with a blank screen - restarting fixes this, I do not understand why a software bug means your car doesn't work - even if the software is bugged, shouldn't the DC power in the battery still feed the inverter via wires, and the car moves forward?

Completely wrong battery capacity calculation. There is an energy amount sent from the charging station, and there is one received by the car that actually charged the battery. Those are different numbers, and the former is always bigger. The difference lies in the losses due to resistance and heat generation. So never use a charging station to calculate your battery capacity, instead buy OBD2 devices and track the capacity electronically. OBDEleven is awesome.

You say the regen is only in B mode but there is regen when braking and I brake lightly and early so the regen bar doesn’t go to max.

I have a 2023 ID4, and this video matches my experience quite well - except that in my 2023 model, most of the software glitches have been fixed.

Great review. We own a 2021 ID.4 ProS AWD with the heat pump. Our experience has been just about identical to yours! For me, personally, the ID.4 is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned. Safe, reliable, low operating cost, comfortable.

Does the Tesla tap work at superchargers? I bought one and the paper in the box specifically says don’t use it at a Tesla station 🤔

Please when it comes to reporting on cars, only listen to people that actually drive them, I have seen many comments from people that obviously have never been inside one.

The Tesla ModelY is significantly better than the ID4 in every respect: Efficiency/Battery, Software/Entertainment/Updates, Charging network, Acceleration, Price/Performance

If they use real leather and not fake vinyl, then it won’t wrinkle like that that’s the problem with using vegan leather. It’s cheap and it wrinkles overtime pretty bad.

Thank you for calling out the ridiculous welcome driver screen. So pointless. My window controls frequently do the opposite of what I want, do you have that same problem?

I have had a 2022 ID5 for a year now, the only issues I have had is voice control it seems to like my wife’s voice as soon as she gets in the car it’s asking what she wants, I find this a dangerous president. So I have turned it off and can now only be switched on via the control button. I have found no other issues with the software I have never had to reset it, and have had one over the air update. But it takes time to learn, thank goodness for UA-cam, if your prepared to put yourself out to learn you will be fine. It’s the same as when you first got a smartphone, don’t blame the phone if you can’t operate it. Same with EVs. Happy Motoring, I for one would never go back to a ICE car.

3.4 mi/kWh! Ouch. That's 15% worse than a Model 3 & 30% worse in the gentle driving+ mild weather scenario. Something else that Germany needs to massively improve.

Useful video. The rubbish software is true across the VW range and only marginally worse than most German cars including the high end models. Germany REALLY needs to raise its game. You talked about range and battery, but I didn't hear anything about efficiency. How many miles per kWh can you expect in real world driving and what does it improve to in warmer weather and gentle driving?

I wouldn't touch any of the first 3 years of ID4s. Software is horrible. And now they've finally replaced the motors, and the software has been fixed. But boy that interior is cheap cheap cheap.

This video popped up in my recommended in August 2024 (?) hope Tesla fixed those things by now 😂

0:57 TMY 187in = 475cm, not 500cm, but the difference is still significant - more cargo (frunk bigger too), 1.6t on the hook in TMY.

Curious what was going on with 12V battery, should be able to get 7 years out of that. Do you know it this is common issue?
