Free Sports Cards!!
United States
Приєднався 20 сер 2024
I'll be giving away free sports cards on a daily basis with a focus on the older cards from the 70's and 80's. I used to collect cards during those years and although I don't miss the stacks and stacks of boxes and binders, and have since sold or given most of them away, I do miss handling the cards. Running this channel gives me the opportunity to purchase and handle some old nostalgia, and then shortly after pass them along to someone else. The rules of the free contest are always simple and easy. Answer the question at the end of the video and after a certain amount of comments I will randomly select a winner and shortly after that get the card into your hands for you to enjoy!!!

1. Bench 2. Simmons 3. Fisk 4. Munson 5. Probably Sanguillen or Carter. Need to check bball reference.
Sweet Montana!
By far Stargell was the best 1B of the 70s. I still my Stargell glove from when I was a kid!! You forgot Willie "Stretch" McCovey! We know all about him. Yaz played by far more OF than 1B. Take care.
Haha, love the photo of Reggie Jackson sliding into 2nd. Love Bert Campaneris probably my all time favorite SS. Belanger unbelievable fielding SS but couldn't hit a lick. You forgot one very very important SS and should be on the list & that's Larry Bowa!!
@@mikesbaseballcards you’re not the only one that mentions Bowa. Thanks for watching.
Bill freehan was a great catcher
@@billsouthorn2003 I agree. He had some above average seasons in the 70’s but his best years were in the 60’s. All of his gold gloves are from the 60’s.
Ah, you forgot Willie Randolph! Didnt play a full decade but part of 3 WS n 2 winners. Could hit, walk, n steal bases! Saw him play at Yankee Stadium multiple times. Joe Morgan by far the best.
@@mikesbaseballcards I considered Randolph but didn’t feel that his numbers equaled what the other guys put up. You do make a good point about the WS Championships though. Thanks for watching.
robin yount was as good a player as any of them.
Bill Freehand was better than Manny.
NOOOOOOO!!!! OJ SIMPSON IS THE NUMBER 1 RUNNING OF 70'S
LOL. Simpson was truly great, and that is coming from someone that lives in Buffalo. But Payton was great too and I feel that he did more with less. It was a very difficult call and I am still not certain that I got it right!! Thank you for watching.
Just subscribed. Love your lists.
Thank you for subscribing and especially your very kind words!!! Have a great weekend.
Dave Winfield!
@@jamesmazzola7031 another great player that just wasn’t as great as some of the others. It’s hard putting a list of only top 10 or 5 together. Someone always gets left out. Thanks again for watching.
Ron Guidry?
@@jamesmazzola7031 he had a couple of superior seasons in the 79’s but I left him off the list because his totals for the decade were low compared to others. He just got a late start. Thanks for the comment and for watching the video.

@@JohnnyCleary-m3m he came around in the 80’s. Thanks for watching my video.
BELL AN GER.
@@ChrisBerry-ew2yx thank you.
Ted Simmons. Of the catchers in the Hall of Fame; Ted finished in the top 10 in either batting average, on base percentage or OPS, 15 times. The next best 9, 3rd 6. Marvin Miller described Ted as the smartest player he knew. If Ted were a Yankee, would have gotten the press and thought of one of the handful of best. Ever. Which he is.
@@chrisweidner4768 thanks for the great and info……….and for watching. 😎
Did not know Sanguillen was supposed to be on that flight with Clemente. This Reds fan says that stupid Fisk gyration in Game 6 is the most overhyped highlight in the history of sports. Unless the Red Sox received rings for losing the World Series.
@@japrufrock3909 apparently he went to the crash site and tried to be helpful in recovering bodies for many days, despite the threat of sharks in the area.

Eddie Murray was the best
@@edlutz7218 possibly in the 80’s.
Is the narrator James carville?
@@edlutz7218 not sure who James Carville is. My name is Steve.
I would say two Honorable Mentions, Gary Carter, and for his defense, Bob Boone
@@davechester4147 Bob Boone was close to the top 5. Honestly, Carter was further back. He was great in the 80’s, but in the 70’s he had one pretty good season and a couple of slightly above average seasons with zero gold gloves. Thank you for watching.
Too bad Bob Uecker didn't continue playing into the 1970s.
@@bnx200 lol. Maybe someday I’ll do a best catchers of the ‘60’s video.
Ray Fosse

Manny Sanguillen never met a pitch he didn't like. Amazing he could hit for avg while swinging at the junk thrown at him.

Conception . Also remember harrellson metzger speire
Bill Freehan.
Campaneris was my favorite player as a child. Once he led the game off with a triple. The next batter Bill North hit a sharp grounder to the 3rd-baseman near the line--Campy was trapped in a rundown. He kept it going until North cruised into 3rd with a 3-base fielder's choice. He looked like he could have kept it up all day, but just walked into the catcher when he saw North on 3rd.
@@MichaelMoore-no9ly great story. Thank you!!
Paul Brown was Anderson’s coach in his early years. Walsh was the O.C.

Like back in the 70's, the debate between Munson and Fisk will never end. I will always put Fisk first, but I also have no issues with the people who pick Thurman.
@@paulweston8408 they could not stand each other.
Good list-- my only change would be Sanguillen #4 and Fisk #5. Fisk obviously had a way better career, but for just the 70's Manny was the bomb, and a great defensive catcher as well.
@@halfcenturycollectingcards what’s harder than picking than too 5, is putting them in the correct order. Thanks for your comment and for watching. 😎
Carlton Fisk was definitely second behind Bench.
@@Noname-ni1dy I would listen to that argument. I’m not a Yankees fan but Munson was pretty damn good.
I was fortunate enough to have seen Munson play numerous times at Yankee Stadium with my late father. What a player n leader. Only catcher in MLB history to bat .300 n 100 RBI 3 consecutive seasons!! Good picks. Yes, Bench 1st. Munson n Clemente were teammates in the Puerto Rican winter league in 1969.
@@mikesbaseballcards thanks for the great information and for watching.
Whenever the Yankees came to California, my folks took me to see them when they played the Angels. My Dad was a Yankee fan, and so am I. It's way past time for his induction to The Baseball Hall Of Fame, I would pick Thurman Munson over any catcher in his time.
@ thank you for watching.
@@kimkelly5512 Great watching the 1970s Yankees, Nettles, Pinella, Hunter, Randolph, etc...I did an episode on my favorite Yankees about a year ago. Take care.
I would have Carter over sanguiilen, and fisk over Simmons
I can see Fisk over Simmons, but not Carter over any of these guys. Carter was great, but all of his best years were in the 80’s.
I think ypi have it about right.
@@JohnMichaelFrazier-sk4wi thank you for watching.
You got me. I was thinking how can he possibly leave Johnny Bench off of this list? Well played, sir.
@@Scaredycat-dad lol. Bench was soooooo much better than everyone else, I made a joke out of it.
@@Scaredycat-dad thank you for watching!!
Where's Cesar Cedeño, the best Centerfielder of the 70's, on the list? He should be there over Amos Otis. Good content though.
@@javiermora4068 thank you. There were so many great outfielders in the 70’s. I don’t quite remember what caused me to leave Cedeno off the list.
Jerry Grote didn't hit much but defensively he was as good as Bench.
Almost as good. During 70s Bench won 8 gloves; Grote won none.
Ummmm I don’t think so.
Jerry Grote couldn't carry Bench's jock.😂
The title should be "Johnny Bench and 4 other guys."
@@ronloomis9555 lol
It used to bug me that there would only be 1 or so shortstops every year that could hits.300. Zero could hit for power. When Cal came along with ARod, Jeter, Chipper, a few years later, Oh my

Nope
@ron88303 How about Duffy Dyer?
@@BBB-Schmuck he never came up when I was researching this project. I never heard of him. I’ll have to look them up.
@@BBB-Schmuck Nope. Pretty anemic offensive numbers, and average defensively.

Ditto.
@@markcarpenter4469 thank you for watching.
Fisk and Munson need to be switched.
I give Munson a tiny edge over Fisk: More gold gloves, higher % of runners thrown out, and higher RBI efficiency. But they're close.
Munson belongs in HOF.
@@ronniecozzi8385 I was surprised to learn that he’s not.
I didn't realize that he's not!!! That's crazy!!!
@ I was surprised too.
Awesome video thanks for sharing! Hope you have a great week💪🏽
Johnny Bench. Period. Everyone else is fighting for second place.
At least for the seventies.
There are two position players that I believe are inarguably the goat and their positions. Bench at catcher and Mike Schmidt at 3rd base. All of the other positions there are debatable names.
I can't argue about Schmidt, but some might argue Yogi Berra or Josh Gibson instead of Bench. Although Gibson's sample size is too small (at least for me), Berra was 3x MVP and finished in top 5 voting four other times. Fifteen all-star games, virtually same OPS+, higher RBI efficiency, and better percentage throwing runners out.
@@ron88303 your knowledge is amazing. You should be making these videos!!
While I agree with Schmidt as the GOAT for 3nd base, many would say Brooks Robinson or George Brett could make a claim to that title.
I will argue Brooks Robinson and George Brett at 3rd.
I consider Gary Carter not only the greatest catcher of the 1970's, but the greatest catcher in MLB history. Sorry, I mean Johnny Bench.
Yogi Berra may be the correct answer.
@@9Ballr lol
@@ron88303 I would put Berra second.
Are you saving Carter for the ‘80’s? He was probably better all around in Montreal than the with the Mets . Obviously not better than Bench , but on the same level as the other guys . Munson unfortunately gets an incomplete because the entirety of his career was cut short when his life was and I assumed he Bench and Fisk were shoe-ins and Simmons just got enshrined so I’m good with that but I’d put Carter and maybe even Bob Boone over Manny Sanguillen even if he was traded straight up for manager Chuck Tanner who led the We are Family 79 Pirates to a World Series ring.
How does Munson get an incomplete if we are talking 1970s? He played the whole decade, save the last two months. People can argue that Fisk and Simmons had better careers because they played longer, but in the 70s Munson clearly had the stronger body of work.
In seventies Carter wasn't at same level as Munson, Fisk, or Simmons. He's pretty comparable to Sanguillen, although I'd go with Sanguillen for the seventies since he had 2,000 more plate appearances.
@@petermiller564 not saving him as I haven’t looked at his 80’s numbers yet, but I didn’t think that his 70’s number were up there with these guys. I know that he was well liked and very popular and I wonder if that elevates him with some fans.
@@urbangorilla33you’re right he was top 3 in the 70’s I guess I was referring to whether he should be in the HOF or not. There was talk of a fast track for him like Clemente got right after the crash .
@@FreeSportsCards-c8r first of all thank you for always replying I’ll go ahead and hit that subscribe button so UA-cam takes care of you for this. He was an 11 time All-Star , 3 Time Gold Glover and he sits at #7 for most home runs among catchers plus he made it into the HOF before his eligibility ran out and it had to go to the veterans committee whereas Simmons needed a second look . I do get that he came up in 75 so putting him in this group might be a stretch I probably would have let it slide if you didn’t tease it lol .
