Carlos is a good buddy of mine who has one of the coolest jobs (FedEx pilot). This is a recording of one of his flights where he was operating /AM. He also supplied me with a few pictures and videos from some of his flights. The first contact in the video is between Carlos and another good buddy of mine, Art K4IB. Its a little harder to hear, but Carlos gets a lot stronger as he gets closer.

(tr)uSDX wire winder case
Переглядів 52210 місяців тому
I redesigned the DL2MAN case upper and lower panels to include little horns that turn the case into a wire winder. The .stl file for this modification can be found here: www.printables.com/model/595153-trusdx-wire-winder-case-upper-and-lower-panels
Retekess V115... a versatile addition to a ham radio kit.
Переглядів 556Рік тому
I bought this radio primarily to play .mp3 files of old radio broadcasts. I soon realized this radio could be useful in my radio kit. 1 - Record and play .mp3 files 2 - The menu tree on the SD card is navigable 3 - Auxiliary input with a very decent sounding speaker 4 - Receives shortwave, MW/AM, and FM broadcasts 5 - The battery last a really long time www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ARN28SQ/ref=...
Hunting K4SWL with a (tr)USDX

That is sooo cool!!!
@@HeritageLiveOak thank you!
Aww, lovely doggie smile at the end, certainly a hilight.
Poppy said, “Thank you!”
Is this a 4s linion battery? Did you have any problems with voltage being too high, or is ok to run it with a 4s in your experience?
Yes, this is a 4s li ion battery. The radio will work with this voltage as long as the antenna has a low swr. I have since changed to a 3s battery to give me more wiggle room. Thanks for watching.
Very nice! Please more.
Thank you!
What key is that?
K6ARK retractable paddle. Similar to the Palm Pico. But I don’t see them on his site now or in his printables collection. Perhaps you can contact him to see if he has any available. He’s a very nice guy. He also made these: www.printables.com/model/332611-morse-code-paddle-cw-key
You are the 2nd person to say the exact same person provided it lol.
Clever
Thank you!
Nice set up mate. Do you have a video that covers making your antenna?
I don’t. This is the K6ARK antenna kit… he has a video where he shows how to build it. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the reply. Did you get the QRP or 20w Kit?
@@SMB_SpeedTwin it was the 10w/qrp kit
What power supply are you using? Is that the DL1DN designed option? I fitted the DL2MAN one yesterday and it’s just too bulky takes away from the ease of pack up and transport.
The battery holder shown here is a 4 x 14500 cell stuck to the end of the trusdx with double sided foam mounting tape. It covers up the PA and USB ports, which I never use. It provides about 16v to the radio which makes some people uncomfortable. Now I mostly use 3 x 18650 cell holders secured to the back of the radio with heavy duty Velcro. I detach the battery to pack up the radio.
Very nice setup!
Thanks!
The microphone is buit-in
Yes, it has a built in mic. Or you can plug in an external mic. Thanks for watching.
Excelent!!!
Thanks!
The L match lol..
Wow that’s a tiny setup! What is the farthest transmit and receive from that setup?
Hello soul candy. I believe I have been able to contact France from a SOTA summit in Virginia on 20m cw. It is a very capable rig. I usually pursue more regional contacts on 40m though. I have done multiple POTA and SOTA activations with this rig on voice and cw. It’s not fancy, but it works. 73 - AA4K
Very nice vidéo. Did you not check your SWR before starting to transmit? Which SWR value do you reach with this LW? Thanks . Stéphane. FR.
Thanks Stephane. At the time of recording this video my impression was that the antenna was fairly reliable so I didn’t always checked swr before transmitting. I have had a few problems with it lately, so I do check it routinely now. I usually get swr less than 1.5:1 depending on how I set up the antenna. Usually just varying the height of the matching unit above the ground has a significant effect on swr.
Thanks a lot for your quick answer. Best 73 from France.😀
neat little kit !!
@@shadowlab9543 thanks!
Hello from AA3K! Have one of these kits which is next on the build list.
Hello AA3K! I also have one of these kits to build. I bought this one assembled 😉. 73 - AA4K
Jamie, that is a very clever modification that is very functional and hard to lose. Have you attempted to set your DL2MAN up for digital ops? I never thought I would use digital, but it can be handy in the field. Are those magnets on the back of your rig?
Hey Dick! Thank you. I haven’t done digital modes yet in general except for winlink (useful for contacting my wife when I’m camping out of cell range). I would like to get it going on the trusdx though. The little black pads on the back are heath duty Velcro to stick the radio to a clipboard during SOTA operations. 72!
I have been told I have a face suitable for a radio host, and it was my aunt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She must have loved you very much 😂
Hello! Please tell me what model of external microphone is connected to this transceiver.
K6ARK has developed several miniaturized components for qrp radios, including the paddles and antennas shown in this video. He has also developed a tiny microphone kit that he sells on amazon. It is a fantastic little mic. K6ARK Mini Microphone Kit a.co/d/04txAy7
@@thekhakihat3233 Hello! Thanks for the info. Please tell me gyalyaltn microphone from Baofeng Uv5r ?
@@traveladventure427 I’m not familiar with the term “gyalyaltn”…. Manuel DL2MAN does have a build video using a baofeng microphone for the trusdx.

Boring
How long is this antenna?
It is roughly 65 feet or 20 meters. It is an end fed half wave antenna cut for the 40m band.
This is so cool, portable setup, and custom made from I what I can tell. Would be really useful in emergencies. I'm clueless on radio stuff, maybe I should get my licence and learn more about it. And custom electronics is also very interesting.
Have you gotten your license yet? It is a fascinating hobby. The radio isn’t custom though. The battery pack is just stuck on with double sided tape. Nothing fancy.
@@thekhakihat3233 I'll get my license eventually. Yes, it's a fun and fascinating hobby, and can also be useful in emergencies.
Very nice.
Thanks!
Great video! I'm going with an 8 cell "AA" battery holder, and into an LDG QRP autotuner... Of course, it won't fit into that small a case! 73 DE W8LV BILL

This was an off shoot of the Qrp Labs QCX cw transceiver.
That’s great work! Mine didn’t work so well. Next time I think I’ll let ‘them’ build it. Hihi
Yeah I haven’t built one yet. But it’s on my bucket list. Thanks for watching.
Nice video, thanks...
Thanks Curt!
good work
I’m currently in Orlando on business with a partial free day on front and back of the trip. I activated three parks today with my KX2. I used a 9:1 vertical on the first one and did okay (25 contacts). I used a 40M EFHW on the second and had a pileup the whole time. I guess the EFHW is the winner! I did not record them for my channel - I didn’t pack a tripod.
It seems to me that the more wire you have in the air the better. And of course you lose some power to the tuner. But yeah I really like the resonant antennas.
Nice activation :) How about battery that run your truSDX ? What kind of batteries do you use and how many ? 73, E70AW
Hi Amar. I have been using 3x 14500 Li-ion cells (3.7v each) to give a voltage of about 11.1v. You can see them in the still shot of the setup on the bench (blue cells). This will produce about 3w output of the (tr)USDX. I have also used 4 of these cells and it increase power to about 5w. Thanks for watching. 73!
@@thekhakihat3233 Thanks for info !
Congratulations!! I’ve been trying to bust a K4SWL pileup for a long time. Now I must keep trying.
Yeah he draws a crowd. Thanks for watching. 73

Looking forward to seeing how my (tr)uSDR will do on an outing =)
I really like that I can take it wherever. Its not the best radio by a long shot, but it does work. A good compromise.
Well done in breaking through the pile up. Hope you got your numbers to complete your park activation too, 73
Thanks! Yes I already had 33 (mostly voice) contacts before trying to hunt Thomas. It’s actually a very capable little rig.
good video with the (tr)USDX. The jammers are getting way out of hand every day now. de KN4OK
I assumed it was an inadvertent “jammer”… just tuning up on top of him. Also could be that he couldn’t hear that the frequency was in use. Hopefully…

Price on that unit
I bought a pre-built unit (not the kit) from aliexpress and I think it was about $140. This included the case. The K6ARK antenna kit was $20 on Amazon.
Is it expensive for to purchase a receiver to listen to morse code and how do I get started for learning
A shortwave radio for listening is not terribly expensive… but you get what you pay for. There are several online resources for learning Morse code (CW). I am using LCWO.net. There are also phone apps. A local radio club may also help.
@@thekhakihat3233 thanks for the information I'll look into phone apps

This setup is my ideal portable unit. In my current job I travel at least 1wk/month. Being able to carry HF along would be amazing. So, this rig or the Venus SW-3B?
Just fwiw… I just did my first cw pota activation with this rig. It was working fine when I ended. When I got the radio out the next morning it will not transmit. Not sure what’s going on yet.
@@thekhakihat3233 Oh no! I hope you get your radio back on the air soon.
Update... its working fine now. I think I may have had it in usb mode or something stupid like that.
I was thinking if the combined 14,8v might be a bit high for the finals of this trx? Could you share some more experience if the radio is holding up fine when running it with the 4xbattery pack? tnx es vy 73 de Leo DL2COM
