I did not know that John Squire did an album with Liam until now. Just listened to "Make It Up As You Go Along". Fantastic. I will do a deeper dive into this one for sure. Love the artwork too. Way to go John. Well reviewed as usual~ Rob/Boston

Excellent reviews John. I did not know about Brittany Howard. I never listened to Alabama Shakes. I always thought that they were a country band. Not the reason why I never listened to them. <> Your Hackett review was spot on. I did watch the video for People of the Smoke. Sounds like Mark Knopfler on vocals. Got to check out the Bela album. Sounds like a Woody Allen soundtrack or movie vibe? Sounds good to me. Thanks J~ Rob/Boston

Well done John. There were a lot of slower love/somewhat sappy songs in 1973. But there were also some rocking songs too like Keep Yourself Alive, Money, No More Mr Nice Guy and even Freebird. It was a better year for albums in my humble opinion rather than individual songs. But you know this already. Way to go J~ Rob/Boston

Good evening John. Thanks for featuring some of the newer releases. I do like what I heard from the Tim Burgess solo album. Love the first Charlatans album. I am also an early fan of Eels and MOE. {Mark Oliver Everett}. Now in the thirteen years that I have been in the VC. I made it a point to not bash artists, bands and albums. But I thought that the new Eels album was uninspiring. Nothing that grabbed me and had any sustainability. To my surprise you also choose Morrissey's "Dog" and the great and always getting greater Paul Weller's "On Sunset". You did a fine job with this one John~ Rob/Boston

I found a copy of Common One (in great condition for a very good price) and it's a really good album, that is growing on me even more with each listen. At first I found that Satisfied and Wild Honey don't really fit with the rest of the album, but after listening again I appreciate them as a diversion, or a kind of intermission, from the first two songs and the last two songs. Thanks for steering me towards this!

Really good review! I listen to this album often, but you've gone into some depth talking about the lyrics, and you've inspired me to really listen intently the next time I put it on. I appreciate how you talk about the ways the music supports and enhances the lyrics on this album. I really find that Veedon Fleece sets a mood at the very beginning and maintains it all the way through. The other obvious example of that is Astral Weeks, and I also find that quality in No Guru, No Method, No Teacher. All three albums are so unified and cohesive. Thanks for this!

Hi John. One of the great years for popular music. I would also have chosen Pink Floyd (the shorter song-based tracks are the ones for me which reveal Barrett's whimsicality and unique approach to lyric-writing), the Doors, and Love.

It's a good list. Love's Forever Changes rates very highly with me also. I tend to think that Love's music is more appreciated in the UK than the US , though I'm not sure. Moby Grape's debut would make my list and Jefferson Airplane's Surrealistic Pillow. The Moody Blue's Days of Future Past would be in consideration. Thanks

As always, I enjoyed this top 10 video, John. 1967 was a great year for debut albums. The Doors' debut is definitely also on my list. As would be Beefheart's debut. I completely agree with your assessment of Jagger’s lyric writing skills, John. Very very underrated indeed. Especially on this superb album. Jigsaw Puzzle is rather reminiscent of Dylan’s lyrics in the mid ‘60s. Jagger definitely hit the nail on the head regarding the futility of participating in the voting process in Salt Of The Earth. I love Stray Cat Blues. Yes I agree that Jagger more often than not did justice to old bluesmen’s songs and performances. He really expressed the soulful rawness all the while still sounding like Jagger. Great video. I have always preferred this album over the more often preferred Let It Bleed, another excellent album.

Nice commentary on Paddy's religious background, not something I considered when looking at the album. Your track list chronology was in the wrong order btw. I need to revisit New York. Road to Hell, there's one I haven't heard for a long time.

my copy was digital - i have vinyl but my turntable is broken so i have 200 vinyl sitting in boxes here - thanks very much for watching james - my very poor viewer count gets me frustrated and subscribers like you keep me going - i don't want to just make videos for my own satisfaction - a few genuine comments from good guys means alot to me - i am nearing 70 years old so video making is a retirement hobby - once again thanks and don't work too hard john

Great list of great songs. 1972 was a marvelous year for music. So many genres playing on the same radio stations at the same time.

I do love the piano and Art Garfunkel's singing on that "Bridge Over Troubled Water." It is one of my favorite performances. My favorite song from 1970 would be "Into The Mystic" by Van Morrison. Great list.

Superb video, John! I really appreciate the thought you put into topics like this. Yours is one of the highest quality channels out there (which is undoubtedly why it is also less viewed and appreciated by the community). You should wear that as a badge of pride, my friend.

thank for your genuine appreciation - for obvious reasons i can't make finds videos and some of the threads are limiting - your comments give me a boost - other channels seem to not see my videos in notifications - anyway i'll keep on plodding away - its a hobby after retiring from teaching - keeps me off the streets

Cheers John - you've a great deal more channels and have done more videos on various topics than I was aware of. You make a good point about learning, I've come to realize that a lot of my videos are as much for myself as for the audience, in sort of coalescing and recording what I've learned about a subject to that point into video form. Good luck in your future endeavours moving forward

I very much enjoyed this video, John. Thanks for inviting us further into your life and history. I wish more video makers did likewise, because the people behind the videos are invariably the most interesting thing about their channels. People tend to underestimate just how interesting they are to others. Anyway...... I've said it before, but I am always impressed with your passion for moving forward in your pursuit of music enthusiasms (your channel name, John's Music PASSIONS, is perfect). I've tried, and continue to try, to do likewise (keep abreast of more contemporary music) and I find that over 90% of the music I listen to that was released in the past few decades just does nothing whatsoever for me. I'm sure that is a reflection on me more than on the music or musicians themselves, but there it is. So I keep my range of video offerings very same ol' same ol'....just the usual suspects, you know. And there seem to be more viewers who prefer it that way with my channel than would prefer it otherwise. Haha! Thanks again for your channel. Cheers! Jeff
