Bring back local groceries!
My grandfather owned the Stag Bar near there, I remember those time at Christmas when they’d shut the bar down and we’d all celebrate and we’ll have the random fight during the holidays.
Midnight stars and you did not help for my heartache watching this 😢
I was born in Lima 51 years ago! I’ve not been back since 1986 , I would love to go back and visit ...
The city is a ghetto now. White genocide is worldwide
Oh my God the root beer stand my dad took me to and Pangels I remember Pangels lolWell done on this video What a beautiful job. Some of things are still standing for when I was a kid. I do feel like it was more beautiful back then and they made Lima look worse as they tore down certain buildings and the worst thing they ever did was pull up the brick roads They made Mila look so pretty. I was born and raised in Lima I don't live there now because of the way it is unfortunately
Oh my God this takes me right back to my childhood in Lima I was 12 years old I remember all these commercials and I literally singing the tunes I don't know how I remembered them lol This is great❤
Punky Brewster Punky Power
Why did it get demolished?
@@patrickk5370 I’m assuming because it was old and in disrepair.
Love the video. Born in Lima and grew up across the tracks from Wells located in Northland Plaza. This plaza was the end of the line for Main St. The American Mall was on the west side of Lima by the Texaco station you showed in the video.
Lima trivia: name all 4 of the downtown movie theaters and the 4 drive-ins. (50s-60s)
Lima ohio home of the lima locomotive works that manufactured steam locomotives for the railroad
Also Lima Loco's semi pro team.
@@bullseyenow1 never heard of that
Cinema One? For most of my childhood it was the shuttered Warner Sigma. By the time I was 18 it was the Sigma, showing soft core porn, including Ed Wood's elusive The Only House In Town (I think a print has finally been found for distribution). By the time of Cinema One, they'd graduated to hardcore.
Loved your video. Born in Lima and still visit often. One point I would like to correct is Wells store wasn’t in the American Mall. They had a slogan “Main Street leads to Wells”. I believe the name of that complex of stores was called Northland and was what we now call a strip mall. Thank you.
There was in fact a Welles located at the American Mall as well as the Northland Plaza. It was the Eastern anchor store at one point😊
My father went to this school in the late 1930s and early 40s. He was born in 1932. Today I found a picture of a group of boys at the school and he could name quite a few in the picture.
Pretty neat video but where was the Kewpee. It started in 1939 in Lima. I was hoping to see that rotating car lot.
long gone but there are pictures around
WOW!!! I still remember my kindergarten teacher Mrs Mumma. I remember the walk from 625 Heidel Ave to the elementary school. I transferred to the Wapakoneta School system after second grade.
I really don't miss that cesspool of evil called Lima, Ohio. That's why as soon as I graduated I got the hell out of there.
Video is ok except for one glaring mistake, it was FROSTOP ROOT BEER NOT "FROSTYS"
4:18 The great Alan Bleviss, one of the all-time best commercial v/o talents. 8:47 Lester Rawlins was another great voice-over artist. 27:10 And here is v/o legend Vic Caroli.
Oh, and it used to be a very desirable hotel.
4:33 shows late 19th century house behind 1959 cars.
4:33 prizewinner.
I live in lima
Interesting. I was a photojournalist with The Lima News from 1981-86, when it was on High Street. I still have some vague memories of the town. When I first moved to Lima, there was a neat, old-style Sohio Station on, I think, Main Street. Even then it could have been a museum piece. For weeks, I thought about stopping to photograph it. Then one day, I drove by…and they were tearing it down. That story is pretty much Lima in a nutshell. Fortunately I moved to Annapolis, Maryland where I’ve lived ever since. We appreciate our history here, and haven’t torn down everything that was good.
Remember Jack? He was in charge when something broke on the press?
@@bullseyenow1 Jack. Ya. I think he was the press foreman. I can remember what he looked like. It's going to bug me that I can't remember his last name.
Any now and then documentary about Lima, OH that makes no mention of the Lima Locomotive Works is about a half a documentary!
Some of the best made school buses were made by Superior Coach in Lima, Ohio. Rode one as a kid, owned one as an adult. Made an awesome camper.
and ambulances and hearses
@@davidspilker310 They still re do the upholstery in the Limo's there.
Thing is the people left cause most of the work disappeared, when the locomotive factory went away
Didnt Ford have a large engine plant in this town?
Still does😊
I grew up here in the 80s. Brings back memories.
I can’t believe lima used to be cool. I wouldn’t leave lima if it was the city it was in the past. It brings me so much pain to see lima the way it did.
Thanks for putting this together. So many childhood memories.
This my house
Well done
Thank you😊
I moved to California and my first time back I wanted to cry because it wasn’t home anymore
I went to Lincoln K-6th 1985-1991 and South Junior and then Middle School- 7&8. I loved Lincoln and the teachers. Mr. Snook was still there when I was there. I wasn’t a fan! 🤣
This Dope!!!!!! I went to Lincoln I lived on west street thru the alley. I grew up with ty mills,Ricky mills,Bob Compton. Next door to Ron Manley before we moved on Broadway street in front of Lincoln. Great times
May I ask ? Where did you find the pics of Lincoln in 1958 as kids were leaving thru the front door? Nice shot. LOL I might have been in it !!
It’s a secret😉😉😉😉😉😉
Fond memories of Lima when I lived there in the 1970s. No longer the town I loved back then.
Nope, still there. like everywhere else, well worn.
Video started out showing a 1970 Monte Carlo which looked mint so the year of the video probably 70 or 71
Does anyone know about The Consolidated Bottling in Lima? I have one of their old bottles but can’t find any information.
I went to school at Lincoln Elementary
Nice job..... long gone before my time but growing up always heard the stories of who preformed there
Still in Lima. LSH-1966
Great Vid! Anyone have any photos of the old drive in theaters in Lima from back in the day?
There are some photos of the area drive ins on a couple Facebook pages. Lima Memories and You Know You’re From Lima.
@@northwestohio6586 thanks
Cool quick peek at American Mall , spent a lot of time there as a kid . Especially the 50 cent theater, with cheap popcorn & soda
Love It , Could call out each intersection before it was posted. Home is where the heart ❤️ is !!
I worked at WLIO from 1974 to 1987, leaving about the same time as this night of commercials. Good people, good times.
I often wonder if anybody from the station has any old film or video from the 70s?
@@northwestohio6586 I doubt it because we threw away dead commercial film and we reused two-inch. This one looks like a cassette that survived for some reason. I recollect that P.J. and others would dub them ahead of time to make master control insertion more consistent. Back in the 70s, we just pulled the local spots and racked them individually shortly before each break. I didn't give Fred any promotion videos until he asked for premiere party stuff.
@@fergbutt That’s a bummer🙁 This was actually from a VHS tape I had recorded for a movie that aired prior to the news broadcast.
@@AlexaPerezx nope -- not my preference
@@DougFerguson29412 There's always someone asking for that.
