We moved to France from the USA - Was it Worth it?
Download our Move-to-France Resources guide: unique-writer-5502.ck.page/85c59d782f
About Us:
We are an American family of 3 who moved to France for an extended stay adventure in 2022.
We wanted to experience Europe as more than rushed tourists on a 10-day vacation. To dive into the culture, learn a new language, experience daily life, and truly know what it was like to work and live somewhere other than the US.
In France, we set up a business, enrolled in a middle school, found housing, and even got our cat a European passport!
While in the US preparing to leave, the information we found about staying in France for longer than a short vacation was directed at college students, young & single digital nomads, or retirees. Where was the useful information for families like us?
With two years under our belts in France, we created Baguette Bound to pass on what we have learned. We hope to make it easier and inspire other families who are interested in experiencing a long stay or moving to France with their families. Stay tuned for more information on French culture, adjusting and the logistics of moving across the world.

To a village without these 5 things
Nice to see you in France, the best country in the world! We know it's false but we're french : we're proud even when we know we are wrong 😅
....ssshh don't tell them, they'll all want to leave!!
My husband and I are currently binge watching your awesome videos in prep for our move! Did you end up making a video on the 1 year renewal process? I can’t find it, but am not sure if I’ve missed it somehow. If not, no worries! Thanks for all of the GREAT info!
The pledge of allegiance is DEEPLY creepy to the rest of the world. Like, making little kids stand up and say that mad stuff that sounds like text-book indoctrination every day is mental!
American tap water is dangerous and should not be consumed
Most interesting point made (for me) were the different definitions of ‘freedom’: ‘freedom to’ and ‘freedom from’.
21 months for an election campaign is so long it's stupid. In the U.K. this year we had a general election. From the time the election was announced until election day was about SIX weeks, maybe SEVEN weeks at the most. So there wasn't time to even start an advertising campaign.
America, the unwanted global police that will destr us all in the future 😩
You also live in the worst place in europe, france.
Can you? Drinking fluoridated water strengthens the enamel on your teeth, does it? That must be why on every toothpaste tube there’s a warning not to put too much on it, and ensure that your child never swallows it. Happy googling!
Who are you addressing? Americans obviously don't care, hence the recent US election results. Most Europeans would find your insights laughable. (Expatriate American living in Europe since 1985).
It's always good to follow you and see your enthusiasm for your move to SW France. I'd like to know where you live. We're English (sorry!). we've had a house for £1,500. 00 in a small hamlet near Vanxains that we bought in 1969 : there was one Englishman in Vanxains who refused to speak to us because we were English. He's buried near my mother (who was Belgian), my father and my sister in the same Vanxains cemetery. The house ( a house with a batn) can sleep 14 people, an orchard and a couple of hectares of land.
USA people are just grown babies just lucky to live protected by oceans and blessed with oil. You are on average ignorant, stupid, violent, racist and stupid more than an average European citizen. I don't know if the world would be better without you but I'm sure it's not better. Good luck to us.
Soldes comes from sold the preterit of to sell !
Americans still go to a single European country and claim its representative of “Europe.”
For most part of european countries it is. As laws and rules are pretty much the same. Smh.
The biggest misconception US Americans have about their own country, other countries and life in general is that they get more freedom through less regulations. Not only is this untrue, it's also not the case in the USA. Even in the US regulations create freedom. Areas without regulations only create legal uncertainty. To me, that's the opposite of freedom.
It only sound ridiculous to uneducated, arrogant, indoctrinated americans that has zero world knowledge who never set a foot outside their country. Europe does it 50x better on pretty much every aspect than the U.S. does. The world doesnt see the U.S. as the best or greatest country but as the biggest woke, racist, unsafest, most dangerous, most gun violent, toxic, uneducated joke of a country. There is a reason why the west calls the U.S. a third world country of the west.
I Love your handle . It reminds me of a comment an American made whilst I was on holiday in New Zealand . He saw the bar snack menu and asked , Bagette , whats that ? Some little bun thing ! 😅
And then to think that the tap water in France is by far not the best in Europe🤣
You have hit the nail on the head with freedom from , and freedom to . ❤️
america, land of the free, FREE to be as STUPID UNINFORMED AS POSSIBLE and free to have the lowest general knowledge in the world. go america!! 😂😂😂
I do enjoy your channel. It makes me understand France a bit better and it make me understand the US as well. One thing though: Crème Brûlée is absolutely not a yogurt. I think you have gotten the yogurt section wrong. Some times desserts like Crème brûlée are put at display close to the yogurt. I suppose, mostly because the packaging is somehow similar.
U can realize that Russians seems similar. Big country, also isolated(cause it need to get visa to visit USA or EU) and many people thinks that Russia is the best country to live
The US is great for the National Parks and shopping. That's it. I've been so many times to the US. I lived illegal there for 4 years. In the end, the US legal system is the worst.. Land of the 'Free" .. please.
An absolutely fantastic video! It should be seen all over the US in the hope that it will open peoples eyes to the brainwashing consumerism. I went to an American school for 6 years (in Finland) and was taught that the American way of life was the only right way and that the US was the best country in the world with the true democracy. Now, as an elderly man having lived the rest of my life in the Netherlands I cherish our small country so much! Good luck in France!!!
Fact is that USA is still a big experiment. A bunch of emigtants that pretend to be a nation or what do you thing why you need the American flag on every corner or the music played when the president comes out of the door? I could mention 1000 things. All the genealogy you do because you don't know who you are and and and Think about it.
Butter is sometimes served with certain cheeses - at the cheese time of the meal (after lettuce and before desert). Butter is on the table more in Normandy, and salted butter in Brittany : the more humid part of France (like in England ) You are in Dordogne, South of the Loire, so you are less in the butter than the olive oil, walnut oil..... part of France.
So much ham because it goes with everything here : especially with baguette and butter, this is our main sandwich recipe.
America WAS the land of the free when in Europe the people were oppressed because of religion and the 1% rich people abused the poor. But well time changes situations. It is the other way around now. Maybe America should have a good look at their political system and adapt it to 2024. Get rid of Greedy Billionaires.
F off back to maga land ....😮
I have been binge watching your videos since I discovered your channel. Would you be considered as communist/woke or lost cause in the US now? Thanks
Americans like to live in Europe AFTER building their life in the US. If you earn more than 50 or 60k a year, you already have to pay near half of your income in direct taxes. And the rest goes fast because everything is a lot more expensive in Europe because of energy prices and consumption tax. Everything but healthcare. So yes, you can like it in Europe after building your funds in US
American freedom is a myth, George Carlin says it best.
I'm from Spain. If you ask us to name a mass shooting in our country the only example we can think of is Puerto Hurraco. It happened in 1990. Ask an American to name mass shootings.
Welcome to the French socialist country that has the highest tax rates in the world. You will eventually find out paying taxes for Macron is not worth the french frozen and reheated baguettes you get in France.
we have a saying: we do not live to work,,,we work to live. if you are asked to work overtime (no obligation) then you will simply be paid for those overtime hours and if you work on the weekend then you will receive 150/200% of your overtime hours extra
I live in the Netherlands. I work 40 hours per week. Get paid for 38. Together with my yearly holidays I get almost 8 weeks off per year. I also have the option to buy 1 day off per month for only 35€. So that makes about 10 to 11 weeks off per year. This is much more worth to me then earning a few 100€ extra per month.
I think in Europe countries have a good mix between free market and social security, which Americans usually call far left, Marxist, communist. Life in Europe is less a rat race than in the USA.
The biggest revelation for me was the myth of Southern hospitality. I never saw Americans invite Latino immigrants to a BBQ for example.
Traditionally, the flag is raised on national holidays such as King's Day, Liberation Day and Prince's Day. It is also customary to hang out the flag on other festive occasions, such as a wedding, birthday or graduation.
brainwashing children in schools is fortunately not an issue here. ( im dutch) There are still schools where a prayer is said in the morning before classes start, but only in the so-called Bible Belt regions, but this has been abolished in normal schools for 70 years.
You landed in a country with also an exagerated self-esteem "la grande nation". 😂😂😂
we, as europeans, are happy that you now know the truth,
For Ham: There is a great number of different style of ham, then you add the type of meat: chicken, porc, turkey You also add the country origin and the salt/no salt, etc and you have a lot of ham 😊
Interesting video, but I think you don't notice one very important myth about USA - it's not democracy any longer. Regulations are made by few for few - it's oligarchy.
Same things are true over Here in Germany. Amazing.
Unfortunately, Europe has always adopted the worst "inventions" of the USA, most recently the incitement against ethnic groups, the destruction of our history and culture and above all the "woke" nonsense and the gender crap ... We no longer need war to destroy our countries and alienate us from our closest neighbours ... WE HAVE GLOBALISTS AND TODAY'S POLITICIANS ARE FOLLOWING THE US SCRIPT ... RESULT: WWIII IS AT OUR DOORSTEP!!!
Born and raised in Europe. Would move to the US in a heartbeat.
Thank you so much for your insights. The "freedom to" vs "freedom from" part was eye opening. I never thought of it this way.
Man, that was defined by french J.-J. Rousseau around 1750 ;-)
You are so right. I made the leap expatriating to France 34 years ago and it was the best decision that I ever took. Not saying it was a cake walk at first but I accepted the challenge and worked hard to integrate. So happy.
