my pl880 has distorted speaker.i guess it give up earlier than the whole unit.even the signal almost 4k

That's my experience with the PL-660 too, that it stores anything and everything in its AM memory scan. Good to see that the other models are a bit more useful in that regard.

You never managed to tune in an SSB signal for a reasonable comparison. Why did you remain on the cw station sending the letter F?

990 has a more natural, relaxed sound than 880... less fatiguing.

The 880 has a better speed and dynamics making the music rock more. The 990x sounds more relaxed, less fatiguing and can be more suitable for vocals and speech. In audiophile (true to original sound) terms I'd say the 990x speaker is superior, but the 880 isn't far behind. Both these, on account of the class A/B amplification sound far better than almost all radios in this or lower price range as they are class D amplification based. Class D is slowly approaching class A/B in fidelity with its evolution, but not quite there yet.

Hi I am torn between the pl990x and pl880... if I'm not bothered about the Bluetooth, sd card for audio and the speaker( as I believe the audio on both are not that dissimilar) would you tell me to go for the pl880? I do like the look of the 880 but can afford the pl990x. Any advice would be appreciated thanks

Soft mute is not an "inevitable" characteristic of DSP equipped radios. Many DSP radios will not suffer from "soft muting", "chuffing" or "muting while tuning." The current Sangean ATS-909X2 and the earlier 909X2 are DSP radios and do not do this.

O rádio Eton é PLL ou DSP

It's a very big radio receiver and it gets quite well. I have a chance to review the XHDATA D-808 as well.

The Eton is superior in the segment. I have the 660 and CC Skywave SSB, and the Eton is so much nicer to listen to, and it is "more sensitive".

Actually it sounds terrible, why would I pay $150+ and $250+ to listen to static?

Very nice radio, thanks for sharing. I have one and it is easily the best FM radio I have ever owned, the selectivity is like no other previous tecsun and I have tried a borrowed 501x but the 990x surpasses it. It is also a lot better then the Sangean 909x2 of which I had two models I had to send back for refunds due to tuning and other faults. Also the 990x is better then the 880 because it can use an external antenna for all bands using the one antenna socket, sometimes it may overload but it can be trimmed back using the the ant gain slider control. The only fault with the 990x is the bandwidth on SSB does not change from 3khz to 4khz but I can live with that, otherwise a great radio in terms of build quality and tuning precision. The screen could do with an update and maybe include RDS but Tecsun do not seem to do any RDS on their radios, unlike the Xhdata D-808 which is my travel radio.

I picked up the PL-990x last week, great radio, paid $242 shipped at Anon-Co. could’ve bought the PL-909 for $169 new off of eBay but figured the “X” version was a better option, glad I went that way. I still enjoy the Sangean ATS-909x2 though but, it’s a great radio to add to the collection.

I have both radios. The 880 sounds better on FM, but the 990 sounds better on MW & SW. As someone stated the 880 is too bassy for MW & SW. I use my 990 as my main radio. Love it

I can’t believe shortwave radio and awl are dying. I mean who doesn’t love watching 14 1/2 minutes of a 15 minute video in total silence? Why is nothing EVER put in to context on these type videos? As the comment below asked, which one is best? They all sound alike, and in most cases, I can’t even tell which one is on.
