Backyard Ballistics
Italy
Приєднався 10 жов 2018
I am a forensic expert witness, and thought some of my experiences related to ballistics might be worth sharing. I created BackyardBallistics to provide interesting and (hopefully) entertaining videos regarding the science of guns and ballistics, and also related topics coming from my engineering background. In the process, I will also feature lots of cool guns I have at my disposal for my job. Whoever you are and wherever you live, I would really love to share my experience with you!

Extreme Gun Recovery Attempt: Buried in CAT EXCREMENT
Переглядів 859 тис.Рік тому
Three handguns and a few hundred rounds of ammunition were found buried under piles of cat excrement, into a house crammed full of cats. Cat urine in particular is extremely corrosive to metals, causing the guns to show forms of decay that are very uncommon in normal conditions. Since I'd never seen anything like it, I thought I'd share it here on UA-cam. If you can and want to help me making v...

That must have been a treat to work on. A proper unicorn foal
WOW! this was a crazy resto! thanks for sharing
WOW! That went from the worst Carcano I have ever seen to one of the best-looking ones I have ever seen! I really enjoyed watching the process and enjoyed how you talked about the entire process while doing it. Very informative, I'm subscribed!
Shoulder strap
The stern was designed for street fighting, trying to use the sight was generally hopeless, the foresight could be adjusted with a brick, the weapon was produced for tuppence a dozen but it was, as a tank driver, my personal weapon along with a pistol. You just pointed it roughly in the direction you wanted, closed your eyes and pulled the trigger, I lost many good friends this way(lol). Generally speaking it was not much but it stopped us feeling totally useless outside of the tank.
Sorry, didn't keep an eye on the bloody predictive, not stern, STEN, bloody thing.
My understanding it is fine to use metal working tools on wood. The problems start when you use wood working tools on metal. The gun turned out great. You took a rusted solid pile of junk and turned it into a functional rifle. Most impressive!
Amazing work as always!
Amazing work! I really wish I had grabbed one (or more) of the Mosin carbines back in the 90's when they could be had for under $100. They are right up there with the AK as being an example of "everything you need and nothing you do not". Once again I am in awe of your craftsmanship. You make it look easy and we both know it isn't.
Kinzler bros are apptthe most recent pieces of garbage doing this. Its disgusting.
Triple 7 is a specific smokeless for this.
Британцы могут только грабить слабых и убивать беззащитных. Руками делать ничего не умеют.
Well done on this restoration, glad it turned out well and at least not rusting away still. Glad it still functioned and fired OK. The DNA part was interesting as well, seems as though you are related to part/s of the world that has a good history and an interesting one as well. Keep up the great work!
What’s the rust removal formula?!?!
Always great videos.
Can I ask you a question, please? If you had the option to choose, which ammo would you prefer for this carbon? 22LR, 17 HMR or 22 Magnum? THANKS
Great video and great work! My dad has a similar rifle dated 1910 with an octagonal barrel chambered in .22 long (not long rifle) and with some tang mounted peep sights it is a dream to shoot. Smooth action, never binds up, and just a dream to carry around. It is a very slight firearm but never feels like a toy. A classic Winchester from the hayday of the company. One day I hope to get the rifle and I may pay to get it turned into a .22 long rifle variant (just needs a new lifter, and apparently the ones from .22 long rifle fit without mods, so I could use it more. .22 long is pretty hard to find locally!
Another great. I always enjoy your videos and your skills.
sounds like cannon firing!
I have the exact same rifle 6.5 Italian Carcano. The only thing is that finding ammo is virtually impossible. The one thing I noticed was that it didn’t have the safety clip mine has it.
7:38 and conveniently if you were a soldier in the field, the Mosin comes with a piece of wood.
Ah yes, the Mosin, the one gun that is going to be used from ww1 to ww4.
the gewehr 41 is kind of a bad gun in enlisted it just can't compete with the other guns at that br range and so you end up getting obliterated when you try and use it
This is the most perfect K98 restoration video I have ever seen on UA-cam. I love it so much and have watched it many times.
You're accent isn't all that mysterious, you're an Italian who somehow learned a regional British accent instead of RP or American English.
that is not entirely true what you say, because I have an original 1858 navy colt caliber 44, and the barrel already showed that it was a replica because originally the navy colt never had anything other than a round barrel, not 6-sided like this one
Have to say, wasn't expecting to see Kentucky Ballistics catching strays while watching this...
Yes, the thinnest measurement of your skull thickness is a circular area known as your temple bilaterally. Beneath that thin veneer of bone lays the Middle meningeal artery, which can easily be torn, causing a hematoma that expands and pushes the Brain stem thru the uncus. Equals death.😮😢
Chrono test and ballistic gel test would've been really nice.
Mister Backyard Ballistics, fake stuff is easy ro spot. But now every restoration video has tons if comments on how fake they are. I even read an idiotic comment from some kid saying that rust doesn't form on metal. Making people alert is one thing, but now it's like every idiotic preteen accuses all vids of bakery. What do you have to say to that?
this oughta be as gay and fake as cars and coffee
And my familys handgun and the Webley are still around. Thank you for pronouncing the name right thing looks in horrible condition. That’s very unfortunate. The finished product in the restoring looks great and I got my grandpa’s revolver that my dad had passed him after he died and then he was going to me after my father passes
You do amazing work. Wondering if you would be interested in working on my Remington model 22.? It has a broken fire pin and needs to be all freshened app it's pretty good working condition other than the firing pin.
Pull off the grips, drop in diesel, check every couple of weeks....
Half the gun. Half of the gun is missing.
You should see the glass half full🙃

Amazing work due!
That Navy should be an Italian Replica produced By Pietta, the only brand that build a .44 version of the 1851. I own some of their replicas and must say I'm very Proud of all them.
How long did you boil the parts for? I have a project involving rust removal, and I'd like to keep the finish as much as possible. Thanks!
16:57 so much unburnt powder for a tiny cartridge 0-0
Carlo, I have a filed off serial number on a Stihl chainsaw. If the cases are Magnesium or Aluminum, are there other etchants chemicals you recommend?
The pistol looks artificially aged.
Awesome video! Thank you for the content
I actually put the knowledge I've gained from watching this channel to good use and started restoring my grandfathers old ... gun of some sorts (it's some sort of Swedish Mauser but I can't read any markings) with the recipe of how to make that rust removing solution which it is now in. I was going to remove the engine out of a car this weekend but the hydraulics on the lift broke a seal (and not just an O ring, I have to order the seal for it) and I was all pumped up ready to go so.. I thought I'd do this instead. I'm amazed of how well that solution worked, the parts that I never thought would be moving ever again are still not moving freely but I suppose I'll have to manipulate them a bit more and then let it sit again, I have high hopes that I can do this. The barrel insides look really good as well. If I manage this I'll post a video and give all due credits for it on my next one which is a shotgun that is in pretty much the same shape. Amazing how all that rust actually wasn't all that much. Rust expansion will fool you into thinking that it's just too far gone. Anyway, thank you, your well explained methods and experiences will probably lead me to restoring a piece of my family's history (my grandfather was a member of the Wallenberg railroad transports).
why are you wearing broken plastic gloves?
U did show how did u clean the barrel from inside??
I have a polish one made in 1953 which was found in a terrorist cache in Lesotho
parabens esse sabe oque faz !
Hey man, i got this Colt New Frontier I wanna get fixed up and its case hardened finish was ruined by rust. I got the barrel looking decent but i was wondering if naval jelly or vinegar would remove the case hardened finish and if you would know anything about that or have any experience with case hardened finishes
Cleary fake he obviously buried it in his yard for 83 years
