Delve into the intriguing story of Joe Rogan's monumental $250 million deal with Spotify and the unexpected twists that followed. Rogan's podcast, the Joe Rogan Experience, became a cornerstone of Spotify's exclusive content lineup. However, amidst the deal, it was revealed that Rogan would still retain the rights to his show, allowing him to distribute it freely across other platforms.
This revelation sparked controversy and speculation, with many questioning the true nature of the agreement. Was Rogan's deal a masterful negotiation tactic or a calculated move to capitalize on his immense popularity? Some argue that Rogan effectively leveraged his platform to secure a lucrative deal while maintaining his creative freedom.
Critics argue that Rogan's deal may have misled Spotify into believing they were acquiring exclusive rights to his content. As Rogan continues to expand his reach beyond Spotify, the implications for the future of podcasting remain uncertain.
Join us as we dissect the intricacies of Rogan's deal and explore the broader implications for content creators and streaming platforms alike. I share your opinion, Joe is so unfunny but I do enjoy some of the pods he does. Sometimes (seldom) he is unintentionally funny but when he crafts a joke or tries a setup it’s garbage.

    Rogan was lucky. He just took Alex Jones' shtick then added sports, cigars, and elk meat. That made him King Alpha among 15yr old boys.

    12:27 he doesn't make 250 million per year. It's a 250 million dollar contract if he makes less he will get paid less if he makes more he will get paid more. It's around 60 to 63 million per year not 250m

  • @Cyber_Cowboy
    @Cyber_Cowboy 25 днів тому

    11:05 you have kept up with the podcast for the past two years and haven't seen much of a change comparing before Spotify and during Spotify? Maybe because it's a 4-year deal and if you've been keeping up for 2 years you wouldn't see a difference. For any long time listeners going back a decade or more you definitely can see a difference. I'm not saying it's good bad indifferent I'm just saying the show is different.

  • @Cyber_Cowboy
    @Cyber_Cowboy 25 днів тому

    10:05 you said Joe Rogan maintained his multi-year deal. He did not he signed a very different new multi-year contract. Then you make a video about this but also say you don't know the details of the contract why don't you research a little bit before making a video. Joe Rogan is not posting his videos on UA-cam Spotify is. Spotify has the right to publish the episodes wherever they want.

  • @Cyber_Cowboy

    9:23 you think it's mental that Spotify chose the person that's more popular more relevant more reach and more profitable than a singer passed his prime that definitely has his following but nowhere near is popular as Joe Rogan. why would they make that decision I think it's mental if you don't understand why Oh yeah Joe Rogan smokes weed. Maybe Neil Young smokes weed who cares. Nowadays you're saying someone smokes weed is about as exciting as saying they drink Miller High Life. Why didn't you point out that Neil drinks beer? Probably because it's not relevant just like trying to make a point by saying someone smokes weed

    I don't think Brian's comment was that bad, it was slightly in poor taste, but plays on stereotypes and stuff exist for a reason, so getting outraged always annoys me, and he did apologies afterwards and that seemed real.... that said, I can see Brian being a complete nightmare to work with and can imagine him being a knob behind the scenes. You can see how fast he is to turn on people and how bias he is on his opinions when it comes to people he knows or has interacted with on his show

    According to financial times, in 2018 and 2019, the podcast was making more than 35 million dollars yearly from ads and youtube. Then spotify gives him double around 70 million a year for the Jre exclusivity and he keeps the ads money 😅😅 Now the new deal is around 80 million a year and they will get his ads but he will be on all platforms. The dude is killing it .

    Before one frame of this plays, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume the omission of the crucial qualifier "to me" at the title's end is an honest error. I assume you just forgot the tiny detail clearly indicating your understanding of the subjectivity of comedy, did you not? I hope so, otherwise I regret to inform you that despite your insistence to the contrary, I have been exposed to his material and, as a direct result of receiving and understanding that which he communicated, I laughed. Look, I get it, dude. If I could stop people from laughing at a certain lazy hack prop ventriloquist, I would. Since I can't do that, I must accept the reality that Jeff Dunham is not funny TO ME.

    I'm a big UFC fan and I started watching UFC since UFC 1 as a teenager. I like Joe Rogan as a commentator he makes the big PPV events seem bigger. From there I started watching his podcast 10 years ago and really liked it and it has gotten better. So of course I wanted to watch his comedy since Joe is always talking about his comedy craft. Joe's stand up is awful. Joe isn't a funny guy. I rarely laugh at anything he says when he is trying to be funny on the podcast. I found it funny when Louis CK stand up he was working on got leaked and Joe said it wasn't bad but that CK was still working on it. That clip of CK's raw comedy bit that CK was still working on was funnier than Joe's entire body of work as a stand up comedian.

    No dude you are getting it wrong, Spotify is the real winner here they have control over all of his episodes, and not only that if you look at the JRE audience they like to watch the old and most popular episodes, hence Spotify will take all the ad revenue from these old episodes and eventually break even, that's how this business works, also they taking all the add revenue ie. You tube, Spotify, Apple and which ever other platform that exists. These big companies are not dumb to make the same deal again, everybody is a winner in this scenario

    The first deal was an exclusivity deal. This new deal is more of a partnership, with Spotify owning a portion of his enterprise - and they all agreed that there's more revenue into the project by putting it on more services than just Spotify. It's an open-question whether those revenue streams will end up being worth the loss of exclusivity.
