    Great video on a topic which is not covered too often! Before this I just knew that two minor pieces are usually a bit better than rook and pawn.

    Great video Mat. I really like this format where you discuss a principle and then demonstrate it in a game. The knight trap was delicious and the mate was beautiful. Your analysis shows a midboggling understanding of the game that is a pleasure to see. Many thanks!

    People should definitely train OTB before playing an OTB tournament. Even though I played thousands of games in person at tournaments, clubs and cafes, after playing online exclusively for a few years going back to a real board and pieces was disorienting. When you spoke about tactics training you also mentioned visualization. Not everyone means the same thing when they use that word. What is your definition?

    • @MatBobulasChessSchool
      @MatBobulasChessSchool Місяць тому

      For me visualization is the ability to see in your mind the positions and variations when certain moves are made, without physically moving the pieces on the board.

      @@MatBobulasChessSchoolSorry, my question missed the point. What I'm trying to understand is, what is visualization training, and how is it different from puzzles and blindfold? Thanks.

    • @MatBobulasChessSchool
      @MatBobulasChessSchool Місяць тому

      @@bluefin.64 They are all connected: when you solve puzzles, you focus on training tactical patterns, but you also have to visualize to some extent. Blindfold chess is even more similar to visualization training, but I think it's easier (and faster) to start with the exercises I described initially.

    • @bluefin.64

      @@MatBobulasChessSchool Until now I though puzzles and blindfold were visualization training. Can you explain what visualization training actually is? Thanks for your patience.

      @@bluefin.64 Puzzles and blindfolds are also important exercises, but there are more exercises that can help. I describe a couple of them (also visualisation) in the workbook available for FREE on the website: stopmakingblunders.matbobula.com/

    A great lesson. Very helpful indeed. Many thanks! I just carried out your suggestion. It takes a little time, but I found it really informative, especially the summary...Do a blunder check, don't get fixated on your plan (I missed taking a hanging piece as I was fixated) and calculate rather than go by feel (I moved a pawn forward as it was then a passer, but I should have taken and I would have seen this if I had calculated). Your advice is excellent.

    I've been studying position evaluation recently. I offer the following questions with respect: Under evaluation, why do we not explicitly consider weak squares and pieces too? They would offer targets of attack and defense for both sides, leading to potential plans and candidate moves. Are attack and defense the only options? What about improving the placement of our pieces? If there are no threats or ways to access weaknesses, the position improvement might be desired.

    • @MatBobulasChessSchool
      @MatBobulasChessSchool 2 місяці тому

      Good questions, thank you for asking them. First of all, this is a simplified version to use in practice. The complete version is explained in my second video about creating the plan. Secondly, one of the elements to consider is piece activity, so you should evaluate who has good pieces and who has weak ones. Thirdly, attack and defense are two basic plans. Of course, you can improve the position of your pieces, but it should prepare for something, such as a future attack.
