Recently because of a mice/rat infestation at home. They found our non-perishable food storage, ripped some bags and were feeding out of it. Out female kitty helped us to hunt most of them during 10 days nightmare, traps did the rest of the job. However, with the last 3 in particular, thanks god they were mice. She brought them, one at the time, in the middle of the night while we were sleeping, a "live" present to our bed. My wife freaked out when she felt a mice in her feet/legs, and I had to hunt the animal at that time and my wife was traumatized. Until today she can't sleep with lights off. With last one my micer female hunter, she came running from kitchen with something in her mouth, jumped into my bed and I asked her politely to just drop it in my hand, instead of dropping off at my bed, which surprisingly she did and then I crushed it bare hand, disinfected my hands and dispose of the rodent at 2am.

I would say, a 25% reduction of brane mass is certainly a less intelligent cat (if the skulls are the same size). It is surprising it has affected all domestic cats, since barn cats and stray/feral cats have to problem solve and sometimes live in urban environments. Racoons, living in similar environments, don't seem to get dumber.

Human brains are shrinking too, but guess what? It's not a bad thing, our brains are becoming more efficient. Why should this be a problem for cats?

How do they know cats brains are getting proportionally smaller to their bodies or if cats themselves are just being selected for smaller sizes through breeding? In any case, cool info all around - lots of neat things I didn’t know before!

I have a hard time with the better sleep thing. The only cats I’ve ever known were awful to share a bed with! It didn’t matter what else was happening, she was convinced the day had to stay at 5am. And she would let you hear about it if you tried to keep sleeping. As bad as having children!

My therapist suggested that one of my cats could qualify as a therapy animal. Most of all, when I have a nightmare he paws at my chin to wake me up and won't stop until I start talking to him.

I play music for the cats I know, even so-called strays and they tend to calm down and sit next to me to observe the music. And for certain genres of music, they get agitated instead and start scratching the nearest suitable surface, sometimes that being my shoe.

One mistake . The big cats DO purr AND meow! Cheetahs sound like house cats. Tigers, have deep almost growl like meows. All of the big cats meow and purr.

probably to say that cats domesticated us, not the other way around. It was best for them that we live as farmers. They made it possible to succeed.

My former cat, was a 15+ year old ex-stray. And he was a snugly little fellow 100% of the time. I think after a very successful life, of taking care of himself, he was more than happy to spend his retirement years living the lazy domestic life.

While cats make lots of babies it needs to be understood that in the wild they are not only predators but prey as well. While cats will typically have litters of 4-6 kittens at a time in the wild they often struggle to keep even one alive long enough for them to mature to an independent age. A mother living alone has no choice but to leave her kittens unguarded when she has to go out to find food for them.

Prior to his passing, my big ole Catsquatch would present his paws for me to remove loose claw sheathes. He didn't like having his paws manipulated any other time, but I think he liked that bit of grooming. He also LOOOOOOVED getting matted fur shaved off. He had a special relationship with the razor and would flop whenever it would come out. He was generally good at keeping his fur in order, but he was HUGE and perpetually looked like he'd just hiked in from the woods. I miss that cat.

I had a cat who could stare daggers through you if you got on her wrong side. She was definitely in the camp of hating having her feet touched. Fortunately she wasn’t destructive though - never had to consider trimming or declawing!

Some cats do like to swim and some have different fur types. My fuzzy buddy Guapo often came home smelling like the pond in the park. He also had fur more like an otter that the water just slid off. He could get completely soaked and five minutes later you would not realize he had gotten wet at all.

It's very clear cats recognize their names. With both of my cats when I say their name they might not come but they do turn to look at me so it is clear they know which one of them I am addressing.

My cat Irma does believe I am her rather low quality servant. She yowls at me when -she thinks it's time to go to bed -she wants me to wake up -shake her dish to remove the circle of starvation -switch the water in one of her multiple water dishes or cups -as she brings her feather stick to me from up or downstairs -is generally in the mood to talk but not actually interact

I think it’s interesting how much innate response to cute things is built into humans as a way to make sure we take care of our own babies!

After the human population can control itself and stop taking over so much undeveloped land in order to build, build, build, then this can be a conversation. We encroach on deer, coyotes and other wildlife, directly creating predator imbalances routinely and barely give it a thought until Fluffy almost gets eaten in the backyard. Humans also need to stop dumping unwanted animals. Animal control operating across this country need to use their funds for sterilization before giving cats and dogs to new potential owners. No Kill Places like PAWS, etc who have a higher adoption fee because they care for the animals before they get adopted by well screened applicants are unable to compete in this sitation as compared to Animal Control. We can take a lesson from countries like Japan who look out for the lives and well being of outdoor cats, respecting life instead how we approach it here in the US.
