Time Warp on a Motorcycle #OGT14

So, here’s the story… Last summer I rode my motorcycle across Canada to introduce Open Government and Open Data (#OGT14). As I was cutting west to Regina from Winnipeg, I decided to take the road less travelled and opted to ride across Hwy 2 (MB) and Hwy 13 (SK) instead of the Trans-Canada. www.webnotwar.ca/open-government-tour-2014/ All of a sudden, Time Warp” from the Rocky Horror Picture Sho...

I rode my motorcycle approx. 20,000kms during the summer of 2014 in the hopes of bringing attention to Open Government and Open Data. This rant is my way of summarizing what the tour was all about, and is inspired by two people... 1) Seth Godin speaks about "Art" and "Artists" as anyone who create...not necessarily people who painters and sculptors. What I try to do is frame Civic Engagement as...

AFter yeears of watching this and thinking how cool it was. The WHOLE premise of the escape would, in reality, be moot if Shawshank does what nearly all prisons do, MOVE PRISONERS TO DIFFERENT CELLS> How depressing. A major hole in the book and plot line. Even if they don't move cells, the guards routinely shake down cells, tear stuff like posters off of walls. How did I not miss this in 20 plus years I don't know, but I did, and so did likely everyone else. Andy , at least in this plan, never would have gotten past the first inch or two of carving into the wall.

Not realistic at all that a prisoner would get to stay in the same cell for 20 years, and even more so without inspection.

Andy starts carving his name in the wall, resigned to the fact that he is imprisoned . The wall crumbles, saying "your name does not belong here". That was his motivation to escape. The prison itself told him " you shouldn't be in here".

Can I ask the experts a question. Andy wore the warden's suit when he visited the banks but how did he get it out of the warden's office, as he's seen choosing it but he wasn't carrying it back to his cell.

I love how non-stereotypical the African American engineer is written and portrayed in this story. He's brilliant in his own field just as he's well-spoken and well-educated with an interest in different topics. He's neither a cliché-ridden gangsta raper kind of guy, nor a snob who tries too hard to impress the white guys in the room. And most of all, he's not just the black sidekick who dies first, but just as important and authentic as the other characters. One of the many great aspects of this film (and book).

What was extremely impressive was this was not exactly a fight for justice as we see in normal movies right,it was straight up fight against a system which kept on decaying,I think he did the right thing and obviously the prisoners would have been freed by the time everything came out in the open✌️

A great movie indeed but everytime I see this kind of escape I cannot help but think: "Are wardens really that dumb ? when all it takes to avoid this is simply to change inmates from cell to cell like once a year, even once a decade for that matters. Hell ! they could even have done it without any purpose and the all plan was f****d. The sheer amount of luck and hidden negociation required to keep Andy alone in the very same cell for 20 year is far more amazing than digging a hole in that wall with this little rock-hammer !".

News of Andy's escape probably got put on the shelf once an even bigger story hit the newspapers, namely the corruption and murder at the prison. The powers that be probably decided they had a much bigger fish to fry at that point.

Andy Dufresne is a freaking inspiration to mankind. He managed to dig up a tunnel for 28 years in prison without even his friends knowing about it, indured countless years of gang beating and abuse, just when timing couldn't be more perfect he made it far enough to show the world what Shawshank was truly like and even roasted the most despicable antagonist ever with a religious quote from beyond prison. A boss in every way.
