My original idea for this definitely changed in a major way. Is the keybed updated from the other Korg’s in this form factor?
Unfortunately, no, but that's about the only major drawback to this synthesizer in my view. I'm really having an enjoyable time learning how to dive deeper into it and finding out what sort of role I want it to play for me. Thanks for stopping by, and yeah, sorry I don't have a better answer for you about the keybed.
@@dani_raudvik Korg said it was a redesigned keybed. Sort of expected it to not be great but at this price point I was hoping it would be better. The models that came before it feel like junk but sound great.
The keys are semi-weighted, sure, but still no afterthought. I figured that might have been what you were asking about. So yeah, slight redesign, but nothing earth-shattering
@ yeah no aftertouch but as far as the keys and action do they feel a little better then the previous keybed?
@SethWeisfeld during my first few plays, I didn‘t notice much of a difference, but I could feel an improvement over the others after I played for a while. I don‘t think it‘s a massive upgrade, but it‘s a better keybed than the previous ones
That coating of white noise and the beautiful patient playing create such a wonderful atmosphere... a piece to lose yourself in.
Thank you so much! I have one more new patch to demo here on UA-cam, then I think it‘s back to the modwave for a bit for some deep, aquatic ambient drones
love the sounds you should sell your sounds on bandcamp
Super Klänge - gefällt mir 👍
Vielen Dank!
@dani_raudvik Bin gespannt was du als nächstes machst. 🙂
Dark drones are always a favorite of mine 👽👽
I definitely like making them but I foresee a break from that coming here for a little bit. Being stuck in that mindset has honestly been starting to eat at me somewhat, and I need to seek gentler vistas for a while. Thank you for stopping by, and I'm glad you continue to enjoy my work 😊
I prefer the less synthetic sound of multi-poly.
To each their own and I really enjoy the multi/poly as well. Nothing will top the wavestate for me though and it has capabilities the multi/poly just doesn‘t (but might in the future with firmware updates). Thank you for stopping by for this session though. I‘ll sprinkle in more multi/poly videos in the future. 🙂 I‘m still learning what exactly I want to get out of it.
❤💚💙
Fantastic! I love the white noise in this piece. I've ordered a Multi/Poly and looking forward to seeing how it compares to Modwave mk2. This is such an amazing track, Dani.
Thank you so much! I'll be interested what you think of your multi/poly once you get it. I'd say in a lot of ways, it comes out on top of the modwave, but it absolutely won't replace it for me. The modwave definitely has some things going for it that the multi/poly doesn't have (namely, the samples).
This is amazing!
Thank you very much! 😃 I really can't wait for the opsix se to arrive to I can expand on the ideas here on the 61-key keyboard. UPS is taking its time getting it to me though 😜
great movement soundscape flow. (I'm floating in space)
The possibilities for getting sounds moving all over the place on the multi/poly are incredible. It‘s one way in which it stands even above the wavestate for me. Thanks so much for checking this session out. More to come as I learn more about the multi/poly and how I really want to use it 🙂
Lovely lovely!
Thank you very much for coming by to check this one out! I‘ll get back into building some of this kind of ambient again soon 🙂
@dani_raudvik Oh nice! I've subscribed so will definitely be listening
The Multi/Poly sounds great! How does it compare to your other Korgs?
I‘m really enjoying playing around with it and learning its similarities and differences. It still doesn‘t top the wavestate for me and it‘s most similar to the modwave with a few extra things that I think put it above that one for sound design. The dual filter setup is outstanding, I just wish it had the layer hold feature that the wavestate has. If it did, I think that would put those two on an even level. I‘ll have more to say on it as I learn more about it. Thank you so much for checking out this session and heading into new sound design territory with me 😎
Super Sounds - gefällt mir 👍
Vielen Dank! Und morgen kehren wir zum wavestate zurück. Es gibt noch vieles, was ich lernen muss, was der multi/poly angeht
@dani_raudvik 🙂
How would you compare the sonic capabilities of the Multi/poly to the modwave? Nice layering of the sounds.
I‘d put it above the modwave, plus it has all the modwave‘s wavetables built into it. My reasoning? 1. 4 layers on the m/p vs. 2 on the modwave, so your sounds will be bigger. 2. The m/p‘s dual filter system is amazing, plus it has more simulations of filters from vintage synths on it. 3. 4 oscillators per layer on the m/p vs. the modwave’s 2 Finally, 4. I feel there are more ways to finely detune a sound on the m/p and get the oscillators beating against each other, which I love doing. Don‘t get me wrong, the multi/poly won’t replace the modwave for me, because I really intend to stay focused on analog-type sounds with the multi/poly with an occasional wavetable thrown in. The modwave will continue to be my glitchy, noisy, lovely digital friend.
@@dani_raudvik Thanks!
You‘re quite welcome. I‘m glad I have info that can be helpful for you 🙂
❤💜❤
Its the same ad the Modwave from korg
It‘s entirely different. Te hardware looks similar and some of the internal architecture is the same, but they’re not identical at all. To start, the modwave is a wavetable synthesizer, and the wavestate is a wave sequencing synthesizer. I do love both the modwave and wavestate dearly, but they accomplish wildly different goals.
Deep dark soundscapes and eerie textures! This took me on an ambient journey!
I'm scrambling to see if I can find a home for a recording of this on some upcoming LPs, or if I'll be planning out LP #18 with this as the starting point. Thank you for checking this one out and I'm glad you enjoyed your journey with it 😃
Super gemacht - gefällt mir sehr 👍
Vielen Dank!
@dani_raudvik 👍 🙂
🖤🖤🖤
How do you get it to sustain for that long? I just ordered one…doing my homework 👍🏻
Hi and first of all thank you for stopping by and checking out this video! As for how I get these layers to sustain indefinitely, each layer has a "Hold" function buried a few pages deep in the "Perform" settings (you'll get to those by holding Shift and paging to the right a few times). Make sure your firmware is up to date though because when the wavestates were first released, it was just an overall performance hold that would sustain all the layers or none at all, but the updates let you sustain individual layers. All that will likely make more sense once you have your wavestate in front of you. I wish you tons of fun and sonic adventures with it. It's a fantastic instrument 😃
@ Thank you so much! The tunes are nothing short of amazing! Keep the videos coming!
@The-Mpathe thank you so much again! I have a new video uploading as we speak 😉
Again, amazing all these beautiful layers of sounds coming together so perfectly. Keep them coming.
Thank you so much for this lovely comment. I have a really cool Berlin School-style session coming up soon. I have a few things left that I need to get set up on my final layer, then setting the amp levels for the layers so they play nicely with each other. Really looking forward to sharing that one with UA-cam soon 😃
This is right up my vibe! Definitely appreciating the Korg Wavestate and Modwave more and more, might be a next-year purchase
I cannot recommend these two synthesizers enough. Both are wildly complex, but they‘re not impossibly difficult to start digging into. Thanks for checking this session out. I had a lot of fun building it 🙂
Gorgeous mixing on this. So many textures!
Thank you very much for being another person pointing out the mixing aspect of this particular session. It took me quite a lot of time to get the levels right for each of the layers on the wavestate for this project, so to hear from several people now that the mixing was on point means a lot and validates all that work. I really can't wait to have a session with these sounds in Bitwig so that I can sit with them and really enhance this through the mastering process 😊
Beautiful! 🌌🔮🧑💻🧪
Thank you very much! I need to revisit this patch again. There were some great ideas in here, and I'd like to take some of them and maybe see if I can stretch them a bit now that I've gotten a lot more comfortable with the wavestate. Thank you for stopping by, and I'm really happy to know you enjoyed this older session 😃
@dani_raudvik I'd love to hear what you come up with! I'm always looking at the wavestate, Modwave and Opsix. They seem pretty cool, but then I saw the Multi-poly just came out too. So many to choose from.
@yourcitysleeps if I had the money to spare, I’d have a multi/poly as well.
I really like this one, listening on my stereo now after listening in headphones, was it recorded without any EQ or other processing outside wavestate? Sounds really good not only in musical sense but also well-produced.
Thank you so much for coming by again and I'm happy to hear you enjoyed this rather special journey. This was recorded straight from the wavestate via a Roland Go-Mixer Pro X with the wavestate's internal EQ turned off. The trick is, I suppose, that I use 4 of the performance mod knobs on the wavestate as volume controls for the layers so I can do on-the-fly layer mixing as needed while the patch runs. I'm really glad to hear from a listener that the work done with those knobs is enough to add to the overall production quality of these sorts of sessions. It probably won't be long though before I record a track with this through Bitwig and I'll process it in finer detail and master it through there. 😊
@@dani_raudvik in my initial reply I was going to write something like "+1dB around 200 Hz would add a bit of warmth and body to the mix" but I checked with an equalizer doing exactly that and realized that it sounds better without that change. My stereo is more or less flat 20 Hz - 20 kHz and I guess typical speakers or headphones already have much larger bump in the same frequency range. This track resembles quite a lot many of Brian Eno's ambient works, I wonder if he had an influence on your style.
Brian Eno is absolutely a huge influence and I was actually listening to some of his work while I dreamt up this idea. As for the mixing/mastering aspect once I get this recorded in a DAW, have no fear, the EQ-ing will be treated with the utmost care 😊
Klasse Sounds - toll ineinander gefügt 👍
Vielen Dank!
@dani_raudvik 🙂
👍
Otherworldly 🖤
Thank you so much! That single word in this comment means that I've achieved what I set out to do in this. 😃 Thank you for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this journey through part of Middle Earth
🖤🖤🖤
Great textures and changes throughout this track! The Wavestate seems to have endless possibilities!
Thank you so much! The wavestate really is an endless bounty of soundscapes. I've been starting to look at different types of sounds to use as my "bass" drones lately. Rather than just using samples of a bass sound, I've been looking at vocal samples in particular and pitching them *way* down to see what happens to them in ranges beyond human capabilities. The results have been outstanding so far and believe it or not, the drones in layers A and B on this patch (A panned 100% left, B panned 100% right) were vocal samples 😉
Enjoyed this a lot, it has such trent reznor vibes.
Wow... just wow. I can't thank you enough for that comparison, and I'll be holding my head high probably for the rest of the month with it in mind. Mixed modes are so much fun though, and that's Trent's big signature move 😃 Thank you so much again for stopping by and just... yeah this comment means a lot to me.
👍
Wow you got the Wavestate SE! It looks great and you make it sound amazing 🎹
Thank you very much for the comment and I'm happy you enjoyed the first, more extended session with the se. I've actually had this sitting for a while, I just hadn't built anything that would really suit it until this one. The 61-key layout has been a godsend for me as far as playing is concerned. For whatever reason though I have a mental block about actually designing sounds on it, so this one was designed on the mkII, then ported to the se through the librarian software. I definitely see myself doing this more in the future and having more sessions with me playing over the bass and pads. I had a lot of fun getting back into that mode, and having more space on the keyboard to explore 😊
🤍🤍🤍
Gefällt mir 👍
Vielen Dank!
@dani_raudvik 🙂
Great performance 👍
Thank you very much! I foresee more sessions like this in the future. It was fun to build the sounds on the mkII then port them over to the se for the video itself. Thank you so much for stopping by again. It's been a while 😊
Oh now you've got me wanting an SE. Awesome as always my synth brother. Hope you're well.
Thank you very much and I'm glad you enjoyed this new bit of work! If you have the disposable income to swing getting a wavestate se, definitely go for it. I'm doing quite well, there are still just a lot of questions that need answering about what's going on with me and how I and my care team are going to move forward. Lots of testing coming, but I'll make it and in the meantime, I'm just going to keep making music. 😃
Great dark soundscapes arising from the Wavestate 👽👽
Thank you very much! I need to return the wavestate back to some lush, more gentle territories for a bit. Trying to build this patch and getting it to work on this synthesizer broke my brain a little bit
💚💚💚
Love these dark sounds, keep them coming.
Thank you very much! I‘m very happy you enjoyed this session. While I enjoyed building and performing it, I think the dark sounds need to be reserved for the modwave for a bit. Putting something this harsh together on the wavestate was more mentally taxing than I thought it would be. Plus, I need to get the wavestate back to being lush and gentle for a bit 😜
Super Klänge 👍👍👍
Vielen Dank!
@dani_raudvik 🙂
little bit boring man ,just one note ???!!!
You have real talent for truly stunning and unique sounds...
Thank you so much! That really means a lot to hear something like that about the sounds that I generate. I really should work with the modwave's sequencers more often so that I can actually get used to them and dive deeper into what they're capable of. This comment may have been the drive I needed to give that a shot 😊
It's spooky- and yet... No- it's just spooky.
I went back and listened to this again with your comment in mind, and although I hadn't intended for it to have such a high spook factor, you're absolutely right... this is spooky. Thank you so much for stopping by my channel and checking out this session 😃
Great dark soundscapes as always! Thanks for sharing.
You are very welcome and thank you very much for stopping by the channel to check this out 😃 I have something new and quite dark coming soon from the wavestate. The patch is done, just need to get myself accustomed to it so I can put a video together with it
@@dani_raudvik Are you utilizing a MK1 o2 Mk2 WS?
@@cadaverkev I use a mkII wavestate as well as a wavestate se, and a mkII modwave. My opsix (which I need to feature more) is still the mk1 but I'm stuck on whether I want to upgrade to the opsix se or the opsix mkII
@@dani_raudvik I'm thinking about selling my MK1 Wavestate and purchasing a MK2. I'm concerned about voice stealing while making more complex Dark ambient/drone stuff. I only wish Korg would make the reverb as a send effect instead of a global one. That never really made any sense to me.
@cadaverkev I fully agree about the reverb. I‘d love to be able to use different presets for different layers, but alas, I have to find one that’s just *good enough* for everything. I upgraded to the mkII specifically because of voice stealing. As my ideas became more complex, I ran into it more and more and had to scale things back, which I’m never a fan of. The se is strictly for recording purposes when I have a melody line over my drones. Having the 61-key spread is easier than having to smash the octave button over and over again.
We'll always have music...
We will, and I hope I'll be able to stick around to keep making it. Thank you very much for stopping by, and take good care of yourself 😊
Great job once again. Stay awesome.
I‘ll do my best on that 😉 Thank you very much for stopping by for this strange modwave session
How do you like your Modwave?
I absolutely love it now that I’m tapping in a bit more to its darker, noisier side. I really enjoyed it from the start but I was starting to run out of ideas for it with softening up the wavetables and making them gentler overall, but now I find I’m gravitating back to it again. Thank you very much for stopping by to check out this session 🙂
