Now that I’ve been able to transfer that knowledge to the modwave‘s sequencer though… I’m not sure which one is the bigger powerhouse, honestly. I find that limiting myself to one piece of gear allows me to create things more consistently that I actually enjoy. When I attempt to stretch an idea over multiple instruments, it just becomes a mess. Thanks for coming by to check out this session!

Yeah, me as well....I like to get to know each piece of gear in it's full detail/complexity.......a rewarding challenge

For this particular session, I used a Korg modwave and a Roland Go-Mixer Pro X. That‘s all. Thanks for checking out the video 🙂

As for the pings from the filter and the resonance, they're more for me to keep me from getting bored with a drone layer, but I'm glad other people enjoy them too. I've been wanting portamento on something for a bit now, but today was the first time I went digging deep enough through the menus to find the function. I foresee it playing a role again soon 😊

It's an awesome upload.........there are parts of it that a little 'tougher', more edgy, which to me are like some form of psychedelic digeridoo drone......

I feel like I might enjoy what Omnisphere can do, I just don't get on with software synthesizers at all. My brain needs the tactile feedback of hardware. I think the modwave is an absolute powerhouse once you start diving a bit below the surface of it and I wouldn't trade it for the world. Thank you very much for coming by to check out the video and for the feedback 😊👍 My only wish with the modwave is that I could set layers to hold and not retrigger with each individual keystroke, but then it would pretty much be the same as the wavestate just with wavetables instead. Still, it'd be a nice addition so I could have a droning layer and a layer running a sequence.

@@dani_raudvik I added an experimental workstation, the “Strymon Nightsky” which allows me to keep a hum and latency times when I play notes or effects. The Strymon Nightsky offers instant controls over any effect parameters you want to add to the notes you produce. I demonstrated with the Korg Modwave on my channel. This allows you to create vast soundscapes with Modwave and all with just 1 patch. You can take a look if you're interested. The Modwave + Strymon nightsky gives infinite creative possibilities. 😉 and you will surely find what you are looking to do there. For my part, this is the only solution I found.

Thanks a ton for the tip and I'll definitely check out your demo video with the Strymon. The other solution I've found for this (non-)issue that I just haven't gotten around to implementing is to get a sustain pedal. It's rather misleading of Korg that the modwave's manual suggests that there is a way to sustain the individual layers without putting performance hold on, but it seems like that section of the manual was literally copy/pasted out of the wavestate manual

This is 100% all-natural wavestate mk2 goodness. The only time I use anything external is running a synth with no onboard FX (e.g. MicroFreak or monologue) through my NTS-1, but as you can see, I've been solidly focused on the modwave and wavestate lately. Oh wow that‘s a really tough question. Now that I know how to use the wavestate, that‘s probably it because it aligns best with the sorts of sounds that are constantly running as background noise in my brain. The modwave is an extremely close second. It gets very close to the sounds I‘m after, but it‘s a little more limited in how it can be played, which loses it like… half a point next to the wavestate. Thank you so much for the compliments and what great questions! The chirps are indeed very quick resonance spikes. Basically, what I did was I created an envelope on the modwave with 0 attack, sustain, or release and a very quick decay. I routed the envelope to the resonance and then programmed it so the envelope would trigger when one of the LFOs set to a random waveform hit a certain threshold. In addition to that, I set the LFO offset to one of my mod knobs so that by turning that knob one direction or the other, I could control how often/how likely it would be that the LFO would actually be able to cross the threshold for the envelope trigger, thus the chirps happen more or less frequently depending on that mod knob. The modwave is a really fun synthesizer when you start to dig in and mess around with the envelope architecture.

Hi again and thank you for stopping by to check out this video! Indeed, it's just one layer. I rarely build any multi-layer sounds on the modwave just because it tends not to function too well with the types of sounds that I build and how I want them to behave over an extended session of play. It makes it a challenge to make a 2-oscillator layer as massive (and as interesting) as possible, but it's a challenge I very much enjoy. The modwave is excellent. I got the wavestate first and the modwave shortly after, but decided to focus more on the modwave for a while before diving in and learning my way around the wavestate. I'm kind of glad I did because they're similar in a lot of ways in terms of architecture, but the modwave is less intimidating in terms of putting a sound together. They're both excellent synthesizers though. As someone who absolutely requires the tactile feedback of the actual knobs and keys of a hardware synth, I'd absolutely recommend a hardware wavestate, but your mileage may vary on that.
