INQUISITIVE SAMBAR STAGS
This video shows how inquisitive sambar deer can be, when they are not sure what they are looking at and haven't be able to pick up your scent. They may spot your movement or hear your noise and stand and wait, but they won't hang about if they confirm with their nose.

Deer Hunting From a Climbing Tree Stand
Переглядів 3,7 тис.11 місяців тому
Having had a lot of requests from hunters seeking more information about where and how I hunt with my climbing tree stand, I decided that a UA-cam video would be the best way to answer most of those questions. It shows where and how I set it up and includes footage of several sambar stags close enough that you can hear them breathing.
Steve and Jussy's Sambar Stag
Переглядів 8 тис.Рік тому
This footage is of Steve Grubissa's German Wirehair Pointer "Jussy", locked on full point for over three minutes on mature sambar stag. Being only metres apart and being full exposed to each other the stand off is only broken when Steve decides to take the shot.

John's Sambar Stag
Переглядів 9 тис.2 роки тому
This video is of a hunt spread over a weekend for a trophy sambar stag for my good mate John Davies. John and his son Brock hadn't hunted sambar deer before and were keen to experience this style of hunting. Getting to a high vantage point and using binoculars to let your eyes do the walking was the way, that 19 sambar deer were sighted over two days. Passing up on three lesser stags resulted i...
Treestand Wallowing Sambar Stag
Переглядів 3 тис.2 роки тому
I videoed this sambar stag wallowing twenty plus years ago and as a result the footage is not of the quality it would be if it were recorded with a camera of today. What it is though is a great example of what you may see if you have the patience to sit and wait at a wallow at the right time of the day. After videoing this stag for almost ten minutes I decided to take him after he exited the la...
A CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH A SAMBAR STAG
Переглядів 12 тис.2 роки тому
This video shows how close you can get to a sambar stag by crawling in close, sitting still and lowering your profile. It demonstrates that you can get within 13 metres of a mature sambar stag without the need for full camouflage clothing. I was wearing olive green pants and top, and wearing a face mask and gloves that blended in with the surroundings.
HUNTING SAMBAR DEER FROM A TREESTAND
Переглядів 16 тис.3 роки тому
This video features free range sambar deer feeding in a blackberry thicket filmed from a treestand. You will see the advantage that can be gained by being elevated over habitat that would be impossible to hunt at ground level. It shows how sambar deer communicate and interact with each other when they pick up a scent that they associate with danger.
Calling in a Sambar stag
Переглядів 21 тис.3 роки тому
This video footage demonstrates the use of a homemade caller, that mimics the sound of a sambar calf. * Note how the stag searches amongst the ferns looking for a sambar calf. When this stag advanced to within 6 meters my Labrador dog couldn't stand it coming any closer and chased it away.
Missing your knowledge with footage Boss!🥲 Have all your VHS! From Elks over 20yrs ago during TAFE👌🏻👍🏻
Incredible footage was brilliant to watch the majestic creature we love to hunt with no pressure being put on him and see him do his thing. Well done. Loved it.
great video Noel, I've had a wonderful night watching your stuff. When I'm walking around our property I often feel like I heard a thud but it's so subtle Im not sure if I'm feeling it or hearing it. Is this possibly a sambar that has noticed me doing a footstomp in the distance without honking or making lots of noise when i tmoves off?
Hi Michael, it is highly likely that it could be a sambar, especially if you have them living around your property, although Kangaroos and to a lesser extent Wallabies will often whack both feet very hard on the ground to alert others of nearby danger before bounding off quietly. If it is a sambar that hasn't smelt you it is likely to foot stomp again if you stay still and give it some time.
@@NoelOConnor Hello Noel, I appreciate you taking the time to reply. Lots of Sambar where we are (private land that backs onto state forest). There are times when I get honked and hear a stampede through the bush and other times where I just sense the thud in the distance without ever seeing or hearing anything else. Most of the times I get pretty close to the roos before they take off (most of the mob sees us walking in the paddock during the day and don't see us as a threat)
Gday Noel, loved this footage and your insight into treestands, I have been trying to decide whether to buy one and your video got me over the line and convinced me, I ordered one straight away after watching it. Loved watching the behavior of that stag too and your commentary. Cheers!
Good on you, Mate!
Keep a look out for Yowies as well whilst you're out there. ❤
Noel..love it! Our Sika Deer in the Uk (introduced in the 60's i gather) are just the same! very Inquisitive..they will follow you in cover..adjacent to you if your on a ride!..then they'll let out a enormous squeel..put's the fear of God up folk's that are'nt use to it..they are similar to your samba in build..but only go to a max of 8 point's..the problem we have in the UK is they're cross-breeding with our native Red Deer..CJ UK
Hi Conrad, having hunted Sika Deer in New Zealand I whole heartedly agree with your observations, as I found Sika even more inquisitive than Sambar deer especially during their rut. If they heard a noise they came to investigate whilst circling around to get your scent. The Sika deer in New Zealand have also hybridized with the red deer population.
I love watching live footage, thank you foe sharing
One the very best video's and explanations I have seen, WELL DONE MATE
Great footage Noel they’re a beautiful animal 😃
Hi noel once again u shown impressive camera work these younger stags u filmed show so much anxiety little bit like me when I'm filming 😀 might get it right one day

Great stalking tips once again with excellent explinations as to why and how Noel. 👍
Amazing footage thank you for the videos
Noel, I love your videos and the information you share. Thanks mate. Really appreciate it.
Good video mate love you videos
Great content. Appreciate your knowledge and rate your DVDs very highly. Thanks again
Great stuff Noel, you certainly put out some good informative vids.
I use millennium M100, M150, lone wolf assault, lone wolf hand climber and combo. But my best are the American style deer blinds on private property. You really can fall asleep in the chair, wake up and theres a deer 100m away.
Fantastic information. But I believe elevation counteracts scent thus the higher you climb the less scent you spread! Wind, thermals ect considered
Awesome footage Noel! Thanks for the vid on the treestand too, Im keen to give it a go.
Thank you.
Great footage! Best of luck this season!
Awesome mate. cool footage! i got ants in my pants so cannot sit still this long. honk, cheers
Thanks Noel great vid Hope your doing well mate
Hey I’m new to hunting and was wondering if you can you hunt deer from a tree stand in Victoria state forests
As long as you are in an area of State Forrest where hunting is permitted, there are no laws or regulations prohibiting the use of s tree stand for hunting.
Top footage Noel
What a cracker well done to you both. It’s great to see Australians in the bush harvesting wild free range meat.
Well filmed buddy!
Unreal mate , awesome
Will done to all three of you, Good on you!
