Dirtbikes and other shenanigans. I am not even sort of a professional; just a dirt muppet learning and trying to get better at riding.
Summer exploring near our cabin
A couple of days of riding with my friend around our little corner of British Columbia.

I managed to get out three times in the last week or so, these are some of the typical highlights. The mountain looks crazy with the fog and the low sun.

A slower paced ride East to West on Spiney Norman - trail is really wet and the abundant roots are slippery, taking it easy.

Enjoyable comparison. It appeared to be honest and sincere. 👍
Wow Tom that looks amazing, thanks for sharing.
Men ARE world famous liars. You've been reported to the authorities for misleading the public. The KDX IS DECORATED IN THE famous racing 🏁 green. It's NOT decorated in countryside green. YOU misused the motocross racing bike. YOU'VE MADE UP all these supposed problems. The KDX ISN'T DESIGNED FOR the countryside. It's designed for motocross racing tracks. You've got to ride it in the style of a motocross race 🏁 Look at the bike! It's decorated in KAWASAKI FAMOUS RACING GREEN. IT'S NOT A WOODS BIKE! IT'S NOT A COUNTRYSIDE BIKE EITHER!! NOW, I want to see an apology video saying you're mistaken about the racing 🏁 KDX bike. You really NEVER BOTHERED TO EDUCATE YOURSELF ABOUT what bike is suitable for which location 🤔 How dare you get on the world internet and talk a load of rubbish 🗑 about the abused and misunderstood bike. The reason they stopped ✋️ manufacturing this misunderstood bike is because of people like YOU! GET OFF THIS INTERNET AND IMPROVE YOUR KNOWLEDGE BEFORE YOU POST AGAIN!!
To compare a thirty year old bike to modern day one holds testament to the quality of the KDX. Wish they made a new 2024 model.
A new 200cc fuel injected 2 stroke with e start, bolted into a new 2024 klx 300 frame... Hmmm I can only dream. Kawasaki would sell way more than they ever could build.
@@Billy-burner could you imagine a fuel injected two stroke with e-start. Life would be grand.
@@otero2235 same reason I bought a KTM 2 stroke..🤪
I'm glad you and your scum friends can't get their dumbass hands on another one. You haven't got a clue about tuning motocross racing bikes. Get Off My Internet!
How does revalved kdx suspension compare to stock ktm?
Oh, please, go educate yourself about bikes for once in your life 🙄 You tune suspension for each different race track. Motocross racing bikes are different to endurance motocross racing bikes. Both motocross bikes get different tunings.
@@Gma7788 wow, that's a lot of judgement! Why bother commenting?
Carson Brown KDX 200 Tennessee knock out hard Enduro...
Wish they would make a new KDX. It’s still a wonderful bike but it could use some modern upgrades.
Wrong. You have no idea what that bike is designed for. Guys like you just smash these bikes. You're so stupid you don't deserve ANY motorcycle. I'm SO glad they finally stopped you morons bashing the hell out of these bikes. You can't even see the bike is decorated in RACING GREEN. You think it's jackass green.
Beautiful place!
I feel you, same me with old gen of GasGas EC300, is a capable bike, suspension is ok now after some adjustments, but I just get tired of kicking and boiling coolant in hard sections...😅
You've misused your bike that's fine tuned for some other type of riding. Motocross bikes have short wheelbase and fast revving engines that aren't suitable for countryside riding.
@@Gma7788 Ec300 was made for enduro, I just hardened the powervalve spring a luttle to have more constant pull, but needed a fan and biger waterpump for hard enduro... No misused just needed some upgrades. Bulletproof engines however.
this looks like BC?
Yes this is at the trail system maintained by the Blue Mountain Motorcycle Club (McNutt), Maple Ridge
Scott’s stabilizer is a game changer 💯
Childish
I’ll still take a carb. 24” Beta 200 race edition is on my list. 👋
Also a solid choice, a friend of mine has a bet 200, I rode it, it was a very well-balanced and fun bike, can't go wrong!
@TomRidesBC Oh, you're talking about FUN bikes now. Who makes 'fun' bikes? Please, control yourself! You actually want a putt putt bike. You clearly aren't riding in the style of endurance motocross racing. You're probably not doing riding in the style of motocross racing either.
Had a 97”KDX 220R and it was a great trail bike. Heavy, but once you started pushing the pace the chassis is limited. Awesome bike though 👍🏻
I think kawi could do really well with an updated KDX, I really enjoyed mine and generally like Japanese bikes. But as it stands right now they are all sooooooo far behind on everything except suspension.
@@TomRidesBC Agreed. Take a kxf250 and use a similar chassis and suspension and actually build an off road 250 2 stroke motor for it with a carb and e start and they would sell like water in a desert.
who did the mapping?
It's a TSP map - I ordered the ERM from a local Canadian dealer (BRC in Calgary), and flashed it on the trail. It's an amazing gadget.
96’ KDX?
It is a 95 with a lot of parts off an 06, but amazingly factory 95 plastics were perfect - lots of purple.
The guy is completely crazy. Never bothered to educate himself about racing 🏁 bikes or just bikes in general 🤔
Congrats on the new bike! Variety is the spice of life! I have a Yamaha WR450 and a Beta 300RR and I have my eye on a new KTM 150 XCW.
Wrong. He keeps inventing his own misfortune. One day he might educate himself and go buy the appropriate bike for the job he wants it to do. At the moment he's poorly educated about bikes and is buying the worst possible bike for countryside riding. You have no clue what you're doing.
I love the kdx 200
its been a great bike! reliable, easy to ride, went everywhere. It was time for me to taste the orange though
No you don't. You're another sick in the head idiot. Riding endurance motocross racing bikes is DIFFICULT HARD WORK.
Crazy there's no snow!
We could really use some up in the mountains though. Going to be a tough fire season if no more comes before spring...
I bought the same bike. Im also a larger rider. Slightly older guy lol. Been wanting to get Stegpegs. Curious if you can tell me how many rubber blocks is best? Are they hard to get used to?
In terms of getting used to them I'd say the biggest thing is that your feet will be set a little wider on the footpegs, and the toes will be naturally a little more inward, which is a good thing for trail riding, and also why I got a bigger brake tip. One long ride is all it takes I bought extra pucks and longer bolts for my last bike, but never ended up using them, the one puck seems to be enough. If you are mostly dualsporting then extra pucks may be of benefit - less body movement on a dualsport. Riding Enduro I think they will get in the way if they are any bigger. The way they are now, the flat inner part of the boot is on the aluminium bracket, and the puck pushes against the last 1/4 of the boot just as it starts to round back around the calf, if that makes sense.
@@TomRidesBC thanks for the info. That really helps. Can you recommend a good place to buy them ?
@@drewellis9560I think the only place to get them is from Australia, from the manufacturer. I've always got them from them direct, never had to pay duty.
13/48 or 50
I went with a 50 because it was for sale on marketplace for dirt cheap. If I was paying full price I would go with a 48
Wow that’s some low gearing. 13/45 works super well for me. Remember these new bikes have completely different internal ratios, and they’re very close to the old bike’s 13/50.
@@WASemiHardEnduro you have a very good point about internal ratios - I automatically put on a larger rear because that's been my go-to on many bikes. it does feel pretty low with the 50, I barely use the 1st gear. The second did feel a little tall with 45, and I overshot with the 50, that's for sure. Next round I'll probably go 47 or 48. Good thing gearing is easy to change :)
I've got the Husqvarna te300 pro and these engines are so good I can make the 45t work in the real technical areas but it's mostly what I do. The 48t was perfect without losing top end. I had a 50t laying around and right away knew it would've been too much . I've got a 18 Gasgas xc300 that I went from a 48t to a 50t because the gas gas just didn't lug off the bottom like the new bike. It's only money bud it's good to have options...lol. On a side note my brother has got an 89 kdx200 but needs new power valve gears I think but it ran good for awhile and is plenty capable but its just getting hard to find parts
@@2fly1974 nice, always good to see a KDX around, but yes parts are becoming a problem. There is a fella out of UK that sells new powervalves custom machined, but they are pretty pricy, I think over $250. yes I'm thinking I will go back to a smaller sprocket sooner than later, or put on a 14 front. Only money indeed :)
I had the same issue with my 24’s light switch, dosent stay clicked down ended up putting a zip tie through the switch to leave it on 100% of the time
I guess with the LED there's no harm in doing that, good point. KTM is backordered on those switches, I guess many are failing. You are the third person on various platforms who has mentioned theirs is inop, it's a thing I guess.
E start is wonderful... but a backup kick should have been retained.
I would like that security as well, for sure. I may add another button somewhere because apparently a large oroportion of starting issues have to do with poor handlebar switches.
I found the 48 tooth fit on without having to throw a longer chain on just flip the blocks see how I like it once its not stud season out here.
yeah the 50 *almost* fit. I got the chain and sprocket for less than the price of the chain alone, so i'll put up with it for the time being. Next round i'll go 48 for sure. Stock chain is brand new, thanks for confirming that i'll just need the sprocket!
Wrong.
@@Gma7788 really. It worked for me.
i will buy your KDX200 plz?????
it sold ridiculously fast, to a fella who had 3 KDXs already :) people sure love them, as did i, but it was time
@@TomRidesBC Time you started to educate yourself about bikes. Not time for you to buy another bike. You have no idea what you're doing. Can you even SEE the bike was decorated in the famous racing green colour? Do you need the rescue helicopter 🚁 to see the orange 🍊 colour from the air?? Ask yourself, Why is there orange 🍊 on your bike? For what purpose did you put orange on your countryside bike??? Is that RACING ORANGE 🍊??? YOU clearly don't need racing orange on your bike. You clearly don't need a fast racing engine 🙄 You clearly don't have a use for another motocross racing bike.
What pegs did you use?
I went with Carapaks 5mm down, 10mm back. They fit my large fit really well. There was enough room in the brake pedal adjustment to place it where i wanted it
I guess you had a little time to figure out your next bike. Surprised you didn't like the suspension, most people rave about the 2024 CC forks and like the shock as well.
Suspension was not bad, and probably would work well for a lot of people, especially with a revalve. But it was much too stiff in the forks for the terrain i ride, and how i ride it. If i picked up the pace, it felt really good, but i'm not fast at all, mostly 2nd gear, so the action was beating me up. For GNCC, hare scramble, that sort of stuff i think it would do well, not for these trails though. With the clickers backed out a lot of force was being transfered to the spring and it felt spongy. It is amazing how much difference it made. One of the trails in the video (i did not post it complete though, just a few snippets) i was 25% faster with new suspension over stock, and i wasnt even thinking about timing it, just turned on the gopro and rode it as normal. Then i checked on my computer. Arm pump is reduced, it is deflecting much less. So for my weight, and my terrain, it made a big difference. Still have to figure out the oil level to get another inch of travel out of the forks though. At 350 cc now, will try 300 today.
Have a good day man be safe
Cool!
I had a KDX. Awesome bike! Love the videos, keep ‘em coming !
Is that a 200 or 220? I've seen you at mcnutt a few times. Not a lot of kdx's out there
it's a 200! Love the bike but its getting long in the tooth. I just bought a '24 XC-W though :)
@@TomRidesBC nice! I've ridden my friends 24 te300, you're going to love it
What about is this
Nice video. If I could make a suggestion could you put the trail and the direction you went on from Trailforks Or similar app.
Thanks! I use the convention of date-area-trail for all my videos, so the trail name is "With God", and being a one-way trail there is only one direction it can be ridden. I will put this info in the description in the future as i realize not everyone knows the riding areas or where to find the information
Great video. Thanks for pointing out the trail markers! Looking forward to more videos from you !
KDX? I had one a couple of years back, great bike! That’s a nasty trail!
Thanks! Every time I meet someone new on the trails, there is a high likelihood that they will say "I had one of these back in the day!" I'm a new dirtbike rider, so it works really well for me, maybe one day I'll upgrade, but for now it rides better than I do :) The trails are close to the city and built in the 70s, on active forestry managed land, so no new trails are getting built and they have been heavily used and rutted/eroded for decades and decades - trail maintenance volunteers can only do so much. Makes for a good challenge!
@@TomRidesBC Those are some difficult traits, you would do good on some Colorado single track. I have several bikes and a new Beta 300rr replaced the KDX. Keep it up 👍!
I have never ridden anything like what yall have there. Looks like some amazing scenery but sketchy too
Thanks! The trails are close to the city and built in the 70s, on active forestry managed land, so no new trails are getting built and they have been heavily used and rutted/eroded for decades and decades - trail maintenance volunteers can only do so much. Makes for a good challenge! This is the least "flowy" riding area where i live, but also the closest to my house, so I end up there all the time.
What camera do you use ..your videos look great
Thank you! The camera is a GoPro12, but it took me a little while to understand how to make it look good - out of the box it did not do great. It came down to doing some work on the computer in GyroFlow and Premiere. I capture in 8:7 4k/60 with stabilization turned off, and then stabilize/reframe in GyroFlow, because that allows for better result - more cropping can be done than in-camera, and that can be adjusted. Another important thing I found is that UA-cam uses different codecs for 1080p and 1440p - the latter is a lot better, so I upload in 1440 - even though 1080 looks good enough on my computer, the platform will rob quality.
@@TomRidesBC ok interesting I’ll have to check out gyro flow …keep the beautiful videos coming 🍻🤙
Very cool! Ive rode a bit myself lol❤ subscribed!
🤘👍🤙
Good stuff 💪👍🤙
I learn lots too 😂
Good leaning hurts a bit :)
Is it hiking trail?
These trails were built by dirt bikes specifically to ride single track over the last 50 years or so. Every once in a while you see people hike them, but it is rare.
Great ride! Keep it up!
Thanks! I'm not very good at this yet, but really enjoy learning and going back to the trails that seemed impossible and actually making it.
👍💪🤙
cool bike. The little green machine that could.
It sure can! Rides better than i do ;)
Is that a KDX or a KX? How do you like it?
It is a 95 KDX200. I like it a lot - it has very easy power down low, i rarely eat it if i make a throttle mistake. If you wind it out it can rip, but i have it jetted for low-to-mid performance, so up high it is mellow. I did gold valves in the forks and the shock (both old style KYB units) and they are really good for this 1st and 2nd gear stuff. As it stands right now i can't outride this bike, so will keep it for the foreseeable future, or until i can't get parts anymore. I rode a KTM300, and it was awesome, but i can't use it to its full potential, nor would i want to keep throwing 13K against rocks all day...
Awesome trails, sweet KDX.
Thanks! I though the KDX would be a stepping stone to a more modern bike, but the more i ride it the less i see a need to upgrade :)
