Jam Bit - Tokai Zing XXXIV (BOSS ME80)
Excelent explanation!! I need some advice about this issue if somebody can help me: I don't use daw, (obiusly no pluguins, IR, nothing) (just for simplicity)... I have guitar > Boss OS-2 > Digitech RP250 > Zoom R8 (Mic/line input). Of course sound is far away from ideal (even using the Amp simulators from the RP). Try a lot configurations but still horrible. Is there some trick or device to recording using my external effects directly connected in the recorder?
@rodolfoschljachow7941 sadly still a mystery to me too. I had boss ME80 and had similar issues.. I gave up and use internal effects. It wasn't horrible but noticeable difference using ME80 with phones by itself and plugged into zoom r8.
@@RustyWeaveStudios Maybe I have two potatos in my ears, but the internal effects sounds muddy, dark, and ugly for me...And I cant belibe no body shows how the F# connect a simple external effect to the imputs (for example: When we come from a distortion or other effect or multi-effect should select "H-z" or "Mic/line"? should we use TS or TRS? adapt impedances? Modified cables or connections? Connect the effect to a mixer and get the output unbalanced from there to the Zoom? Use a DI box? How the old school guitar heros recording his guitars whithout al the disturbin paraphernalia in the present? ¡Yeah, mic the amp...In home recordings sounds horrible, very complex get the sweet sound! So....somebody, please, help...
when i put my phones on and play a pre loaded drum beat i only get the highs, not the kick how can i solve this please only just got it
@asilum69uk could be jack. Could be adaptor. Might not be stereo phones. Only play back and assign one drum track or you need to use drum sequencer
How well does it serve as a PC interface and as a mixer? For instance, mixing computer and guitar to my headphones for my personal jam and practice sessions.
I actually hate this thing. I bought it with a view to practicing and then maybe later do some recording. But as a practice device it is near useless as I can't simply plug in my mike and guitar and play the drum beats at the same time without going to the process of setting a new project, learning how to record etc. I guess I'm going to have to buy something simple. You may call me a luddite and fair enough but I thought buying something as advanced would enable me to do the basics to start off with. Unless I'm missing something.
Awesome video, thanks so much. Was getting very frustrated I couldn't just jam along practicing my guitar (I'm just a beginner) along with a drum track but understand now. I bought my R8 second hand. I think you under rate your guitar skills, I thought it sounded great.
I am considering purchasing a used Zoom R8 and have two questions. Firstly, do you happen to know whether one can punch in - perhaps using a footswitch such as a keyboard sustain pedal to do so? Secondly, I'd also like to know whether it is possible to programme drum lines with tempo changes, or whether one would have to combine (and bounce?) various tracks to do that. Many thanks in advance for your help.
@Albrecht777 pretty sure you can add foot petal for punches. Not sure about mulit tempo changes.
@@RustyWeaveStudios Thank you very much indeed for your answer.
can you load your own wav samples?
@@megatedassaultituary6783 I don't think so.
... nice transition into a healthy lead 3:05. Post more please - cuz I'm greedy
Nice work here. I gather the internal rhythm/drums are quantized to some extent - but quantization doesn't apply to what's recorded from external sources. Am I understanding that correctly? If so, does that make it hard to redo/edit guitar parts? Are you relying solely on your own timing?
@willgo7898 you are understanding that correctly. I use built in metronome.
Thanks for these vids man, They give me hope. I just bought one new under 200 from Japan. I know I sound like a tard with the XLR inputs 😂but you really have to shove in the jack hard to go all the way in. It's just weird plugging into something I can't see the jack hole 🤣 or the Pin holes.
@user-jl9kw9gn3m No problem! I had the same concern before buying lol. Enjoy!!
Does it have vocal effects reverb, delay, echo etc..??
@@matro951 nothing crazy but yes
a million vids on this thing but not actual step by step guides
Is it just an xlr boot that you shove your 1/4 jack into ?
@@Phillip-y6d combo jacks, yup
Did you have the mic the amp ? All I see are 2 XLR inputs on this thing. 😭
@@Phillip-y6d combo jacks. They take both each.
@@RustyWeaveStudios thanks, I finally figured that out...woulda bought one 5 years ago but wasn't sure, so I was lookin at the Tascam. Didn't buy either, but I have the R8 on order right now. Woo hoo!
One of the Best devices ever made. Simply brilliant ! And easy to use.
best thing for playback tracks for live show
That looks like a super powerful 8 tracks recorder, to make whole track. I was wondering if it can be used as live looping too for performing live. Thanks for sharing.
I think this unit was made for live, sadly.
@@RustyWeaveStudios I guess great then it may be a great tool for recording, but not for performing then :)
As a basic recorder it's great. As a drum programming machine it's useless. You can't import files into projects. So the provided internal drums DONT WORK in the recorder bar for jamming.
I agree. I want better drums.
Can i use export or upload ect. An instrumental from my phone on to the r8 ..if so how?
Nice sharing. I have this thing for ages from friend but never use it. Maybe I will soon. Thanks!
How would you compare the zoom R8 with the boss br1200. That's only if you have used the br1200?!? Thanks for your time and effort making this video!. Excellent utube channel. Thankyou Very Much
No problem! Thank you! I have not used the br1200. I'll look it up!
@@RustyWeaveStudios Thanks very much
After the song is complete & I want to add a guitar solo, is it possible to jump straight to that section during active recording ? Rather than wait for the song again from the start to play at every mess up solo take
You can set markers, yes.
How to connect it to speaker?i have to outputs. L and R
Connect them to a stereo amplifier and hook up your speakers. Easy.
Merci beaucoup. Muito obrigado

i got boss br br 80 i wish i could 0f got this before they stop sale them! its nice to be able t0 d0 drum with a unit.
My built in microphone are giving me trouble
did you for get to pay your light bill ... its kinda dark lmao but good job at explaining ... do you think this is easer that tascam thanks
Not familiar with tascam :(
Tascam is maybe more durable. Less plastics.
Thanks for the kewl demo. Wondering when u copy the tracks on the sd card to computer, will it copy all the tracks u recorded to your daw ? I heard somewhere it only does 2 tracks at a time.
Not experienced with daw, sadly.
When used as an audio interface, it does 2 tracks because it can only record 2 tracks at the same time. However, all the tracks are saved as wav files (and you can even rename them for easy identification) so you could just import the wavs directly. As for the drum channels you can bounce them to a regular wav channel and thus export them as wav.
How can you add fills on the drum track
this was really good but I missed how you assign the input to the track. You pushed record on a new track and it just kept recording input one. What if you want to use input 2 or both, or both for separate tracks?
So far I must say your video is the best, I've gotten very frustrated going from video to video just to watch people ego tripping on how great they are but showing you nothing. Some videos are dark and grainy while others the guy is zipping through the controls you can't even keep up with what he is doing....good job 👍
Thank you so much!! Very appreciated feedback!!
So, to create a song with, say, three different drum patterns (e.g. verse, bridge, chorus) I need to use three tracks? Is there a way to use multiple patterns on one track?
Maybe after, bounce the drum tracks to 1 track. I have not bounce tracks myself yet.
I think bouncing is your best bet. I used 4 channels for my drums but just for when I was getting them figured out.
The Zoom PS02 that I've been using for 2 decades has a decent drum machine. Not anywhere near as intricate, but still very useable and still sounds surprisingly good for a supposed obsolete device.
Awesome!! Whatever works to create music.
Im about to buy this unit for $100. Im totally new to recording. Is this a good starter recorder?
Up to you. Watch some videos and feel it out.
Your video is so dark it's hard to see what you're doing
Yea...did another starter guide 2023. Hopefully brighter for you!!
Dude! Can you help me????? So I recorded drum tracks on 2, 3, 4 and 5 right? 6 and 7 were guitar. So I bounced them to 8. Now I can't get the amber light to turn off on 2,3,4 and 5 so I can re record on them! I'm at a loss bro!!! What do I do???? Thanks for your vids man!!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘 They've been an AWESOME help!!!!!!
I replied to your email!! Hopefully that helps!!
cool I have one is it hard to use
Hopefully these tutorials found on this page help out!!
Hello. I have a question: I recorded some songs with the Zoom R8. First track rhythm, then rhythm guitar on the next track and the next 2 tracks vocals. Now I don't know what to do next. Now what do I need to mix my songs? Can you help me with that? Thank you very much. Greetings
The tutorial videos within this youtube page should cover that. Let me know how it goes!

Thanks man!!!
This is really cool, nice video. Have a question ... can you change up the drum going from a verse to chorus, or insert a fill somehow? Thanks.
Yes. The fill is just another drum track you make or use preset.
The frustration with r12 were it included some things that we want (touch screen) but take out most things that we need while adding stuff we don’t need (guitar sim and mediocre effects)
Thanks for sharing. I was wondering about the upgraded models.
Great video. Is it possible to play with the speed to make something like a Chipmunk voice?
Is there really a difference between doing a master track and bouncing to a pair of tracks ?
This tip is too good but Can I import the master track into lets say tracks 7-8 of same project ?
I can't see why not. :)
@@RustyWeaveStudios Great, thanks.
What other equipment do you use? Headphone amp? Mic pre amp when you use microphone? Do you ever record your guitar through your amp?
Tokai guitar, zoom r8, hyper x headphones, no Amp, couple of passes of mastering the master on pc with audio software.
@@RustyWeaveStudios thanks a million!!! I appreciate you sharing your knowledge
wait when you upload the track to a computer its not put together like in the r8. its 3 seperate tracks on the computer. how do you fix that?
That's why you master it to one track on the r8 then take that stereo file to the pc with all of your tracks together
ok thanks @@RustyWeaveStudios
Hey, could you do a video on making the drum track (orange light) back into a regular track (green light)?
I think I did that in a video. I'll need to look.
