I really liked my 222 Remington , however I would have like to give the 221 pistol ago ;-)
I know what you mean. They look fun.
A 260 in a 700 mtn rifle is about a perfect as you can get beside Rachel Welch
280 Remington
Thanks. I will add it to the list😁
New subscriber. I love my 9.3x62. The experienced hand loader can produce near parity with 375 H&H, near enough that no buff or elephant will ever know the difference. 9.3x62 isn't legal for dangerous game everywhere, though it is in some places. I shot a nice buff with mine on a recent safari. It only took 1 well-placed hit and the buff was done for. I'm getting 2475 fps with 286 gr Swift A-Frames, which gives up no ground to a 300 gr launched from a 375 at 2500 - 2550 fps. In all honesty, 2400 fps is plenty of juice for either cartridge, and is the preferred MV for both cartridges from no less an authority on DG than former PH and veterinarian Kevin Robertson. All that said, neither of them really make the cut for stopping/backing arms. As long as your PH is backing you with something launching 400 or 500 gr pills (or heavier), you're good to go with either. And they both produce a similar ballistic arc to a 308 Winchester launching 180 gr pills - with a 200 yard zero, all 3 are reasonably flat out to around 250 yards, and you'll only need to adjust holdover for small animals like impala, springbok, and Tommies. For wildebeest, zebras, kudu, and eland, no holdover adjustment necessary. I rather strongly suspect that if there had been a Treaty of Berlin/Munich/Bonn in 1919 rather than a Treaty of Versailles, The Old 9-3 would be the legal minimum everywhere. As it was, Germany had to give up all its African colonies, and since the 375H&H came along around 1910 or so and Britain largely ruled Africa after Versailles, they favored the British maker Holland & Holland's gear to the yeoman Bock's. In general, PHs love to see hunters arrive in camp with 9.3x62. If they're westerners, it means they probably did a lot of homework before buying, and have often done a lot of practicing in prep for safari. I got 6 animals on my safari - cape buffalo, blue wildebeest, zebra, impala, blesbok, and warthog. The buff and zebra were both 50 or 60 yard tracking jobs, the rest fell where they were hit. It was the easiest week my tracker had all season.
Thanks for the massive comment. It’s really interesting to read. The 9.3x62 is one of those great cartridges that fills many roles and cans be chambered in standard sized firearms. I agree that with modern reloading and modern projectiles it can be very powerful and versatile. It even has pretty good ballistics in shorter barrels as well.
Awesome round
Not enough rifles in this cartridge.
I agree. At least it an easy conversion😁
Thanks Again. The next one has got me interested already.
Thanks Anthony, Glad to hear it.
Nice little video. Wheres that "flower of death" shirt from?
My wife’s a designer. This shirt is available on both TeePublic and RedBubble (links in description)👍
What a colorful character! I see on ebay a Alex Henry #8 brass. I know the seller.
Between your 9.3x62 and now the .303 British I had to subscribe. So call CUT MY TEETH on a .303 SMLE as a kid. Like your co host buddy too
Thanks heaps. The 303 is great. I’m glad you enjoyed the videos.
One of my personal favorite cartridges have taken a lot of game and seen others use it as well. Nice review. There is an African professional who has a scoped loaner 9.3x62 and uses 300 gr premium bullets, thus far it's killed over 650 Cape Buffalo (still legal in some countries even when others stipulate .375
Thanks for your comment. I really like hearing stories like this. 😁
Another awesome episode, my favour cartridge so far
Glad to hear it👍
My father took several black bear in our remote village British Columbia with his No. 4 mk 1. Back then (late 1960s/early 1970s), nobody was "bear aware" and paid no attention to what garbage was put outside, so the bears would come into town for a feast and then got to be a real saftey concern. I have this rifle now and will never part with it.
Thanks for the comment. I really enjoy Hearing stories like this. 😁
Pump action believe me I understand, I live in Pennsylvania USA,in my state they don't allow any semi auto rifle for hunting 😔, nice rifle , I watch ebge of the outback and jack out the back they have pump rifles too
Please do a segment on the many surplus military cartridges in hunting application and sport shooting, that would be great
Definitely will, they are some of my favourites. Glad you’re interested in the videos.
Awesome cartridge, please do a segment on the American 3006 , it's my favorite also the 7.62x54r, please also do so segment on Australia born cartridges such as the 35 sambar,350 salyut and a little more in depth on the many wildcats off the 303 , also maybe also 250 Flintstone Eyebunger
I love all the recommendations, I will add them to the list for sure. 👍
This is my first view of you,I like what I see, I'm an American who loves OZ, also this cartridge I own a English #3 mk 2 smile love it, sad the 303 isn't as popular as it was when I was younger but still being used,
Thank you very much. There is definitely something special about 303s and Lee Enfield rifles. 😁
This is a shame, that this didn't take off in the USA and unfortunately we settled for less with the 6.5 creedmoor 😢
I blame Remington.
Great video, My knock about rifle is a 303 British Here in the USA, Keep up the good work 👍
They are great for that. Thanks.
A throater is cheaper to lengthen the 260 Rem to shoot those heavy bullets than to buy another rifle. Do the improved cases and you are way better than the Creedmoor. I think it will be going the other way, a 260 coming back. To me it is the optimum when AI'd.
Thanks for the comment. The 260 AI is definitely a winner.
Recently my brother had a Mauser actioned Voere 243win just siting around in his safe. There was no intention to use it as it's previous owner allowed the bore to become HEAVILY pitted through not cleaning it. As it outwardly was in superb condition I suggested I might take it and resurrect it. After a little thought and discounting any major changes to the magazine follower I settled on a 260 Rem. We had collected over many years from various sources a stock of 243win brass which is easily converted to 260. For me I think that this is the cartridge that should have been, and not the 243Win. 85-90 grain bullets zipping along and 130 grainers not to far behind the great 270Win
That’s great. Voere rifles are very nice. Thanks for sharing your experience. I really like hearing about other peoples rifle builds.
Great video mate!!!👍
Thank you. I appreciate it. 😁
Thanks again mate. I really hope your Videos start to get more views with the format that you present them in they deserve it. Also love the Kangaroo Pic.👍
Thank you so much. Really appreciate the support.
Great cartridge !
Yeah one of my favorites.
I'm really liking the style of the story telling of these episodes,
Thanks. Glad you liked it.
Great Job! Love these. I'd like to see one on the 375-400 Nitro.
Thank you very much. I really appreciate the suggestion. I will add that one to the list👍
Was at a range last year sighting in a new rifle. The guy next to me was shooting a 260 Remington. He kept putting them all into a little tiny hole at 100 yards. First time seeing the 260 Remington. I was impressed.
That is impressive 👍
It was probably the shooter.
@12vibaba It was definitely the shooter but his equipment allowed him to achieve his potential. I have the equipment but need a lot more practice
Not a nickel's worth of different between the 260 Rem and 6.5 creed.
Totally agree.
Thanks great video keep them coming
Thanks, will do😀
My state is "supposed" to be a strightwall cartridge state but wrote the regulation like this "Straight-wall and "necked-down" cartridge rifles shooting an expanding type bullet of at least .350 inches and no greater than .500 inches with at least 500 foot pounds of muzzle energy." Yep, .358 Winchester, 9.3x62, 35 Whelen, 9.3x62 and .375 H&H are all legal to use for hunting deer while .243 Winchester, 30-30 & 30-06 isn't 😁
That’s interesting. Regulations rarely make sense.
G day Ben. I really like this series you have started as well as the way you present. 👍
Thank you very much. I appreciate it.
I like the affluent, gentlemanly hat.
Thank you they are not easy to find.😀
It is a good calibre for shorter barrels. If you want to fit a suppressor on your rifle. And if your dog is with you on your hunt, you absolutely do 😉 Cheers from Sweden
Suppressed 9.3x62. That’s awesome. 😁
Love the stovepipe. I'm trying to bring the derby back, myself.
Thank you. You can do it!
I would be interested in purchasing a set of the brass dummy shells you show in your shows, do others views think this would be a great thing to have ?
Glad you like them. I have been thinking of doing a run of dummy cartridges at some point. It’s good to know that there is some interest.
I used a sauer 9.3x62 this year on a Yukon moose 🫎 and a wood bison 🦬 with great results.
Glad to hear it. That’s awesome.
Love the episodes man keep it up!😊
Thanks so much, I appreciate it.
The 260 is a victim of Remington's long habit of splashing their new cartridges and the abandoning them. The 260 is a better cartridge than the 6.5 CM, but Hornady marketed the heck out of their 6.5. If Remington had done a better job we'd have never heard of the Creedmoor. I find it odd that many thought the 260 was to small for biggame hunting and now we hear blowholes go on about the 6.5CM is the greatest 1000yrd Elk cartridge. The amazing power of marketing at work. And no the 6.5CM is not a 1000yrd Elk cartridge, NOTHING is. Stop wounding game because you want to play snipper.
Yeah. Remingtons failure of the 260 definitely led to the creedmoors succcess.
@@benandbenny Remington's last offer, 2017, of the .260 was the 1st edition of the Remington 700 PCR(Precision Chassis Rifle). Finally a premium target rifle chambered in .260 with the renouned 700 action, 1:8 twist and 5R rifling, so I bought one in 2020. At about the same time, Rem came out with the 700 PCR "Enhanced", 2020, but dropped the .260 in favor of the 6MM Creedmore. The other 2 offerings were the 6.5 Creedmore and the .308 which both were in the first edition PCR as well. The Enhanced version came with a MDT SCS Lite Stock and a M-Lok hand guard, otherwise, it is the same rifle with the 700 action. I bought the MDT stock and the new handguard and basically made my .260 into a enhanced version. It is a beautiful rifle and shoots like it looks. It has sub half MOA accuracy at 100 yds. Strange enough, the preferred ammo is the Hornady 130 gr. ELDM. The PCR Enhanced died with the Remington Bankruptcy so apparently no more precision chassis rifles after manufacturing restarted at Remington that I am aware of. I wish we could post pics here, I'd love for you to see my .260. Thanks for the video. Here's to hoping the .260 Rem makes a comeback. I honestly believe mine with hang with the other current 6.5s at the range. i.postimg.cc/d0Qq0Z5D/260.jpg
Thanks for the comment and information. I’m glad you were able to get one before the bankruptcy. I wish Remington would release their MSR sniper to the public. Thanks for the picture. It’s a nice looking rifle.
I loaded some 95 grain Hornady VMax for my Mauser action .260 Remington last week. Using W760 powder one grain under max load (Hodgdon Manual) I recorded an average 3462 fps three shot group at 100 yards measured .65". I had a slight resistance lifting the bolt I believe their charge weight is on the high side. A more conservative load with Varget still under a max charge was more realistic at 3065fps with a three shot group measuring .75". Primers still had a radius and easy bolt lift two shots touching and one went slightly low making the group look bad. ES and SD was higher with the Varget the three with the W760 had single digit numbers and were loaded in Hornady brass the Varget in Remington. The barrel I installed in the Mauser is a 1:9 a bit too slow I haven't had much luck with heavy projectiles 130 is about the max. I have a Swede and a Creed the Creed takes the accuracy trophy neither one can do what it does in that aspect. My .260 does like light bullets it's more of a Varmint Rifle. I enjoyed the history lesson I still have the first article Guns And Ammo published on the .260 Remington right after it came out I had two .260's built on 98 Mauser actions.
Thanks for the comment. I really enjoy hearing about other people’s experiences with reloading and shooting. Seems like you’ve got your 260 shooting nicely.
Agreed mate, I have a sako 85 VLS in 260 , with 100gn Nosler ballistic tips it hits rabbits and foxes like a hammer. When its too windy for the .22 cals it really shines. Ive hit bunnies out to 750yds with the 100 grainers and at 500yds foxes just drop on the spot. Most people who own .260s love em....dunno what all the hype about the creed is cos theres not a flies fart difference between them. Bloody shame its pretty much obsolete.
It’s great to see there is still an enthusiastic following for the 260.
I have never understood the 260 or the 6.5 Creedmoor The 6.5x55 will do anything they will
The 6.5x55 does not fit in a short action.😊
@benandbenny single shot no action to worry about. And I really didn't think about that. ? I have never paid attention to tge action length But didn't Remington put the 6mm Remington into there short mode 7 action? Tge 6 if off the 257 Robert which is of the 7x57 So if tge 57 can fit why want the 55mm fit
Great video, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
i have owned guns in 6.5x55, 6.5-06, and now a Savage LRH in .260. I'll be keeping it. Great accuracy and performance.
Great. It’s a truly under appreciated cartridge.
This is my current and favorite whitetail cartridge. I shoot Swift Scirocco II 130 gr bullets at 2,860 fps MV (1:8” twist 22” barrel). Point blank range is just over 300 yards. Shame it never “took off”. It is an ideal medium game intermediate distance performer and makes into a fine, lightweight rifle.
Remington never fully supported it.
Totally agree👍
They really didn’t. Such a shame.
Love this cartridge the 6.5 swedish started my obsession with 6.5 thanks for the video
Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching.
Good job on this one! Very well researched. One point I would like to mention: While it is true that the 6.5 CM is basically "killing off" the 260 Rem in the market place it should be noted that the 260 Rem has greater powder capacity in the case and will provide superior velocities than the CM by as much as 100 fps on projectiles up to 130 grains (which is perfect on deer sized game). It is ONLY when you start getting up into the heavier projectiles that the longer case length of the 260 Rem becomes a problem because the longer projectiles have to be seated deeper which in turn limits the case capacity. I love my 260 Rem but shoot projectiles between 100g (for coyotes) and 130g (for deer). It is perfect for those. If I wanted to shoot the 150g class projectiles I would skip OVER the 6.5 CM and choose the 6.5 PRC. The PRC will do everything the CM will with about 250 fps more velocity. Just my opinion.😊
Thanks for your comment. I agree. My favourite load for the .260 is 123 Noslers. I also really like the idea of the 6.5 PRC.
.260 Remington is like 6.5 Creedmor for people who don’t put their pronouns in emails 😂
😁
I have settled on the Swift Scirocco II as ideal in my .260. But I did try 10 different bullets before settling on that one. One interesting load I have is for the 156 gr Norma Oryx (now sadly discontinued). I had a 0.015" jump and still the C.O.L. was only 2.729". My load produced 2,515 fps and 3/4" 3-shot groups at 100 yards. I'd hunt any large hooved critter in the USA with this load . . . out to 300 yards.
@@rifleshooterchannel208 🤣🤣🤣 Get yourself a man bun and a "Needmore". 🤣
I'm wary as to have enough room in the neck and chamber so as to avoid the projectile touching the domut... However..I'd much prefer a 260rem to the fancy pants creed...bit more case capacity too...
Definitely a consideration. Thanks
I hear a lot about “the doughnut” in the .260 REM. Yet the same folks shoot a lot of .223 REM, with bullets that also intrude far into the powder. If it is a concern get an inside neck reamer mandrel from K&M Precision Shooting.
My 260rem Tikka is an excellent accurate rifle. I bought it before the credemore was released. I only wish it was legal for red deer here in Victoria.
Tikkas are great. I have one in 260 as well. Wow I didn’t realise there was a minimum calibre for deer in Vic.
@benandbenny yes, in Victoria, Sambar, Rusa and Red deer is a minium of .270" -6.85 mm with 130 grain bullet. Fellow, Hog or Chital is .243"-6.17mm and 80 grain bullet.
I own a Savage model 12 lrp in 260 rem. 130gr berger she's a shooter
That’s great. I’ve never owned a savage. What’s your overall opinion of it?
@benandbenny I've owned Savage fire arms for over 30yrs I've always had very good luck with them they shoot really well especially the model 12 an 25 most of the model 10 / 110 will as well
Nice. I might need to add one to my collection.
The 260 is STILL one of my favorite.... perfect? No. But, a version that I've dreamed up is a "260 IT".... same 260 with a sharper shoulder, but with the throating of the Creedmore for a "Target" application. The 260 IT... And yes, with a tighter rifling twist rate. That's what the original 260 Remington, SHOULDA been!
That sounds great. 👍
