Apple Pea Fern Sea
United Kingdom
Приєднався 31 тра 2020
Welcome to Apple Pea Fern Sea. We are two plant and nature enthusiasts who created our small, wildlife-friendly garden from scratch using recycled materials for hard landscaping, and planting an evergreen backdrop of shrubs and grasses as a foil for colourful seasonal flowers.
We’d love you to join us here in Kent, South East England, as we film the evolution of our garden through the seasons. Our video library includes the inspirational gardens we visit, horticultural events and highlights ways to grow some of our favourite flowers.
Our channel name embraces four essential attributes close to our hearts:
* nature’s beautiful and endless nuances of green on the colour spectrum
* the benefits of green spaces for health and well-being
* preservation and protection of the natural world
* cross cultural and historical associations with green as a symbol of growth, life, and hope
Wishing everyone nature-soothed minds and flowerful times.

Chelsea Flower Show 2023: Ten Inspirational Ideas for Gorgeous Garden Flowers and Stylish Design
Two of our favourite gardens, it is lovely to re-visit them here!
Thank you so much for joining us!
Splendid, thank you! ♥
Hello, thank you and sending our best wishes!
I always enjoy seeing the bees buzzing around your plants. Hope your Scots Pine pulls through as we become attached to our plants over the years. Loved the ghost story!
Thank you Wendy, lovely to have your company as always and happy you enjoyed the ghostly tale as well as the busy bumblebees!
Lovely video as always, very calming, we cut back our Fatsia Japonica quite hard last year as it wasn’t doing too well and it’s been brilliant this year very healthy and lush😃loved the ghost story
Isn’t it is always a relief to see healthy new foliage emerging after boldly cutting a plant back! Sounds as if you did an excellent job. Thank you for sharing your enjoyment of the story.
I had a similar experience in our other home. I felt the presence of a couple standing by our bed each night. I finally asked what they wanted and they left. As we painted each room to make it our own, as we scraped away the old paint it turns out the paint I had purchased was it’s original color.
How intriguing Amy, to make that discovery. And how brave to ask the couple what they wanted!
Hello again, and Thanks for a wonderful video 🙏👩🌾the last 10 years or so I grow tagetes minuta, in a big pot.. the Aztec indian used this plant between corn and other important crops…it’s good for virus and fungus and I use it for all my plants including ourselves for colds… it have saved a lot of plants and it’s scientifically proved … nothing to loose and a nice tall plant 👩🌾🪴🥰
Hi Annette, lovely to have your company and we are intrigued by Tagetes minuta, as you have introduced us to the superpowers of an unfamiliar plant. This sounds very promising - thank you so much and sending our best wishes.
No BBC Gardeners World tonight so I got my weekly fix through your video. Simply sublime ….. and I feel just as chilled as though I had watched GW. Thank you :)
Wow Angus, that is an incredible compliment as GW is huge boots to help fill on a Friday night. We’ll be watching Monty with you next Friday and thank you for your lovely comment.
Lovely! ❤
Thank you so much!
Your well-anticipated videos are always filled with such a wealth of beauty and information. The colors were so pretty. I wish that sweet pine a healthy recuperation over the winter. With your care, how can it not! Looking forward to see if those tiny bulbs come out of the ground for you…hope so! I stayed for the ghost story! 👻
Hi Diane, thank you for sharing your anticipation and enjoyment with us and for the recovery wishes to our poorly pine. A heartfelt thank you from us and the pine!
Wonderful captures! Your Autumn garden is amazing! 🐝🌸🍁
We appreciate your lovely message, thank you so much and sending best wishes.
Morning. Please tell me what variety of dahlia was it that you showed at the very beginning of the video. Thanks in advance. X
Morning Deb, that is gorgeous dahlia ‘Lou Farman’.
As always I enjoyed your video immensely and I look forward to next month's installment. I'm intrigued by your tablecloth at the beginning of the video. Such vibrant colours. May I ask what fabric it is? Thank you!
Thank you so much! The fabulous fungi-design linen tablecloth was from Liberty London. Sending our best wishes.
I love autumn in this garden. The colours are still there but the atmosphere is softer, more in tune with the temperatures and the morning dew, more conducive to meditation, like a final lap before the end. I would also watch the tale again because I didn't fully understand all the subtlety of the end. Excellent idea in any case to have mixed ingredients that harmonize so well. Regards JL
We greatly appreciate your poetic description of the autumn garden and enjoyment of the different elements, thank you and sending best wishes.
When I tried to plant some snakeshead fritillary this year, they kept tipping over as I dropped them in the hole. I probably should have used tweezers to guide them in. We'll see in the spring how many of them managed to land upright.
The upright ones may emerge first but the others will most likely u-turn their shoots to head up in the right direction, with mysterious homing pigeon instinct.
Our plants are "such dear old friends". Yes, love it 💗
Dear old friends and wonderful company!
From Houston: Thank you for the ghost story! That was really fun! Your garden is just spectacular! I know it takes a great deal of work for the maintenance and implementing new ideas.
So happy you enjoyed the story and thank you for your lovely comments. Sending our best wishes to Houston!
Wow, your ghost story gave me goosebumps! The garden is looking gorgeous as always, thank you for another delightful tour, I hope the fritillaries make their beautiful appearance in spring.
Thank you so much! We appreciate you sharing your enjoyment of the ghostly tale and garden tour.
I would be very interested in the further development of the Delos project. I often search in vain for new information, photos and videos from 2023-24. It may seem, that it is a specialty and a matter for a litle circle of enthusiasts. If so, the realization deserves all the more admiration and respect.
We hope to bring a video update on the progress at Delos next year. Using the link below, you can scroll to the 2024/25 Delos update from the National Trust website - I am sure you’ll find it interesting, we eagerly wait to see how the garden evolves. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/kent/sissinghurst-castle-garden/recreating-delos-at-sissinghurst#:~:text=Reimagining%20Delos%20(2024%20%2D%202025),-Five%20years%20on&text=As%20well%20as%20a%20new,species%20in%20our%20changing%20climate.
@@ApplePeaFernSea Thank you for the information, I found this earlier😌, looking forward to the publish. The Delos project helped me a lot in my own work in the garden. We have less rainfall here, about 600 l/m, short frost episodes still occur, and there is clay subsoil. By adjusting the substrate, I hope to improve the conditions for the plants. Time will tell.
@@zahradajeraj9336 Adjusting the garden substrate sounds like a big undertaking but a great foundation for your plants to thrive, we hope the garden is a gorgeous success.
Genius storyline, images and recording. APPLE PEA FERN SEA - love the meaning and would equally love to be visiting during January when snowing. How divine, pure and magical it looks. It doesn't snow in Sydney and would love to experience a season in the snow. Beautifully captured and presented. Thank you for sharing xo
Thank you for so charmingly sharing your enjoyment of the garden and video. It doesn’t always snow here in winter but is very pretty and magically transformational when the snowflakes settle.
Love your garden style and artistic flare. Winter is also a delight at Apple Pea Fern Sea xo
Thank you so much for watching and sharing your appreciation.
I LOVE your garden - it's an art work! Your tips are valuable so thank you very much for sharing. Question: do you have a video on how the garden looks in winter? I guess what I would like to see if what the pots look like before the foliage spills over and how you have ordered, placed all your pots. Thank you again and lots of love and vibrant energy from Sydney Australia p.s. Im new to gardening - last 2 years xoxox
We’re soaking up your love and vibrant Sydney energy here on our damp, grey and rather chilly English evening. Thank you so much for sharing your enjoyment and positive wishes, they are so lovely to receive, like a ray of sunshine! The December, January and February garden tours give an idea of the winter layout (respective links: ua-cam.com/video/a1gVUfqmweo/v-deo.html ; ua-cam.com/video/bleduRt_SJk/v-deo.html ; ua-cam.com/video/ZDt4LtILOPs/v-deo.html ) Happy gardening and sending best wishes.
Love love love all your videos. Great tip re seed heads! xo
Thank you so much!
You are so talented with your photography! I showed my husband your beautiful garden and he too thought it to be so beautiful. Thank you and I think that more people should watch your amazing videos. They don't know what they are missing out on.

An amazing garden and an amazing video. Thank you.
Thank you so much for sharing your enjoyment with us.
You have a beautiful garden! Thanks for good advice on lemon verbena, maybe I can over winter it too in Washington State!
Hi there and thank you so much for your comment. I think we classed our garden as 9A in the video but following the harsh winter-before-last I realised we are Zone 8! If your plants are in containers, some bubblewrap around the pots can help insulate roots in cold spells. Good luck, I hope your plants thrive though all seasons.
I thought my Cosmos were never going to get going this year but they're looking lovely now. I'll have to sow some of the Double Click Cranberries next year as yours are gorgeous and I'm really conscious that the butterflies need all the help that we can give them. I've hardly seen any this year. I was thinking of you today as I planted some Siculum bulbs having seen them in flower in one of your earlier videos.
So many plants have been slow starters in this cool, wet year, haven’t they. But your late-blooming cosmos sound like a lovely extended-season treat. Your bees also will also adore the siculum next year. Let’s hope 2025 will be a better one for butterflies and all pollinators. Sending our best wishes 💚
Đẹp quá ❤❤❤👍👍👍
Cảm ơn bạn rất nhiều
What a stunning video! The scenes are mesmerizing and, as always, a treat for the eyes. Greetings from @nami-vlog! 🌍💜💜💜👍
Thank you so much for sharing your enjoyment, this is a lovely message to receive. Sending our best wishes.
A wonderful garden, with flowers, butterflies, and birds singing everything is perfect. Thank you for sharing.🥰😊
We really appreciate your enjoyment of the garden, thank you for your lovely comment.
I would be thrilled to find a frog on my doorstep!
We hope one visits your frog-friendly doorstep soon!
I have noticed less butterflies this year even in my area zone 6b. But i still was able to get beautiful videos of a swallowtail on my verbena and petunias, and they absolutely loved my heliotrope! As did I! I also started cosmos late in the season at the end of august but they have grown 3 to 4 feet since then, absolutely amazing how fast plants can grow in the right conditions. I love learning about new plants and planting techniques from your videos, Thank you apple pea fern sea! 😊
How enchanting to entice a beautiful swallowtail to your well-planned nectar garden. And to capture the footage. I have never seen the UK’s native swallowtail but hope to, one day! Thank you for your lovely, appreciative message and sending our best wishes.
The spectacle of this garden, the plants, the butterflies are like the red and shiny "Norfolk Royal" apples : C'est délicieux. Regards Jean Lou
Merci, Jean Lou! So happy you enjoyed the flavours of our autumn video.
Our cosmos, along with some nerines, have been the highlight of a rather disappointing year. Luckily your video is wonderfully well-timed as I have been worrying about how to fix the various problems with the garden and now I'm thinking of cutting down the self-seeded tree that is over-shadowing one of the flower beds and using it to create a low woodpile in the centre of the meadow to provide a bit of cover for the beasties and a bit of a wind-break for the plants. I've also ordered lots of bulbs for the meadow which I'm hoping will replace some of the grass and reduce the amount of hayfever. We've had a good variety of butterflies and dragonflies this year, so hopefully this will boost the numbers. I haven't seen any frogs or toads though, perhaps because the pond got flooded with silt and is now more of a bog. Or maybe they are just hiding in all the nooks and crannies.❤🧡💛💚💙💜
I am imagining lots of wonderful amphibian hiding places with your flower beds and meadow and a potential new woodpile in the middle. It has been a strange gardening year with the unseasonal weather and flooding, thank goodness for trusty cosmos and your nerines. Happy bulb-planting and butterfly-enticing and sending our best wishes.
Beautiful nature. Glories wonders of butterflies and everything that abides in colourful plants and flowers
Thank you so much for sharing in the wonderment of garden and wildlife.
I so love your videos. So wonderful to take a break, sip a beverage and watch them.
Thank you for joining us here as you take a break and for your lovely message. Sending our best wishes.
A much-needed peaceful moment to escape in and thoroughly enjoy. Thank you. How beautiful the butterfly images were! You are right! What could be better than flowers waiting for you at the front door, than a frog! Last week I found a toad sitting calmly in front of my garage door at 11:30 at night. So pleased, I went to bid him a good night and marveled at how such a little creature could bring me such happiness at the end of a long day. ❤
Toads have a wonderful sense of ancient wisdom and guardianship about them - I too would feel joy at his presence. Thank you for sharing your story and sending our very best wishes.
I luckily grow all the plants that you have in your garden but the plant who is King for bees and of course butterflies etc are l find here to be the basic Verbena Bonarinsis. I have four other varieties but the this basic variety gives more beneficial sustenance for months and months to the insects are these plants . Which grow strangely enough in my good old Sussex clay. Moreover l have 30 plants alone in my small drive which were self seeded. I basically cherry picked the footprint of the display and they have been giving a brilliant long lasting display. Did you know that here in Sussex we have nearly 40 names for different types /condition of clay . Thank you for you excellent videos but alas l fear it will not be long before the throat of winter will be upon us.
Your driveway sounds like a butterfly runway, how fabulous! I am so looking forward to introducing the pollinators’ favourite species form to the garden and hopefully the plants will enjoy our Kent clay too. We didn’t appreciate that the lexicon for Sussex clay is so diverse, I guess this reflects the agricultural history and knowledge of the land. Thank you for your message and best wishes.
It was this video, although I have considered it before, that convinced me to grow this verbena next season. Such a lovely, airy plant, but even better now knowing it will help the pollinators.
Amazing job
Thank you so much!
Ohhhh I love love love your videos, your writing, your soft voice, your garden sooo much. Everything about your channel is so poetic! 💖🌺
Thank you so much for sharing your enjoyment with us, we really appreciate your lovely message. Sending best wishes.
This is very helpful but the music is loud 😅
We appreciate your honest feedback, thank you. It is good to know the video was helpful. Sending best wishes.
“It takes years of trial and error to become an amateur gardener…” Oh, how I appreciate hearing your uncle’s quote! It’s a gentle nudge to keep me gardening. The September tour was flush with poetry and beauty. Thank you!❤
Thank you for your lovely message, we hold the quote dear to our hearts and all our garden endeavours. Happy gardening and best wishes.
That was a really enjoyable tour of this iconic garden, thank you and your commentary was so good, you have a very pleasant speaking voice. I do however, disagree with the previous comment about the music. It's so unnecessary, irritating and distracting. I'd much prefer to hear the natural birdsong. I was fine when I muted it!
We appreciate that you have taken the time to give honest feedback and are happy you enjoyed the garden tour and commentary.
It is always an intense, immediate happiness to find you again. A moment of contemplation, of abandonment, of deep peace. Of course you know how to create the beauty of the garden in its smallest details but also to magnify it thanks to the quality of the shots and the delicacy of the comments. Continue like this you are a breath of fresh air in this so hard world.
To know you connect with the moments we try to capture and the distilled essence of the garden we try to convey in words and images brings great joy. Thank you so much for sharing your appreciation. Sending best wishes.
I like to sit down on a Sunday evening and watch your channel with a cup of chamomile tea...so relaxing and beautiful. I especially like it when you fo ro Great Dixter. I love the style of gardening and the riot of colors. I sometimes agonize over color combinations or whether or not to exclude a color. Great Dixter is such a great learning tool and you are great teachers.
Thank you Natalie for such a delightful and positive message, there is so much exuberant inspiration at Great Dixter and we really appreciate you sharing in that joy with us and supporting our channel. Sending our best wishes.
Red is my favourite colour and I use a lot of it in my hanging baskets and containers. It goes so well with purple and yellow. I really like Calabrachoas as well as the full size petunias but they took a battering with last week's weather and are well past their best. Looking forward to planting my tulip bulbs when the time is right and I will use the same colours. It has been super weather here yesterday and today and I hope it's been the same for you too. Perfect weather to be out in the garden.
Hi Wendy, your garden colour choices sound lovely and vibrant and I am glad to hear the weather has improved after last week’s battering. I’ve been making the most of pleasant evenings in the garden after work but all too soon the dusk descends. Happy bulb planting, hopefully in continued autumn sunshine.
What a clever presentation! Thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing your enjoyment with us.
God's incredible creations 🙌🌿
