I would grant the benefit of hindsight but it seems that this was recorded only a year ago. Yet the presenters are talking about sacrifices to "protect the lives of others", a "new normal", ambivalent references to Sweden, Trump "scapegoating" China, and a general innuendo that lockdowns and other responses now widely recognized as ineffective in relation to the harm they caused were justified. The fear instilled to control and divide people, the misleading use of statistical modeling, the downright lying about the benefits of vaccination, and the suppression of dissenting voices will never be forgotten. Most worrisome were the references to the "next pandemic" as though it is inevitable. It won't go so smoothly next time governments, unelected bureaucrats, and social scientists lie to the world and expect people to comply as they imitate the regime of the Chinese Communist Party. Next time anyone expects me to wear a mask, it better be October 31st!

Lovely to hear Professor Fainche Ryan's overview of remarkable women who were founders of religious communities in Dublin - some of which have been demonized in Ireland today e.g. a certain hospital dispute (and the motif of the nun has become a horror movie cliche more broadly) Regarding Bewleys helping the poor, I know they did a lot to support Travellers back in the 60s when it was not very fashionable to do so (again, alongside visionary nuns) I think Fainche Ryan's presentation was very astute and courageous in the current climate.
