Christmas Cracker Drinking Game! (For Guitarists)
Martin and Cal are taking on a fun festive game we’ve aptly named "Christmas Carol Crackers." We’ll be improvising Christmas carols and songs on the spot, guessing the tunes, and drinking spirits. Sit back, relax, and make sure to play along at home! 😂
We also want to say a massive thank you for all your support on the channel this year. This is our way of having some fun to celebrate an incredible year with our amazing community.
We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!
GAME RULES:
- Martin will select crackers at random, each revealing a carol inside. He then has 30 seconds to improvise a rendition of that carol on the spot.
- At the start of each round, we flip a coin to decide whether we’re working together or battling against each other.
- Heads? It’s a Team Round! Martin needs to play the tune correctly, and I have to guess it within 30 seconds to earn a treat. If we fail, we BOTH take a shot.
- Tails? It’s a Battle Round! Martin must play the carol clearly, or he takes a shot. If I can’t guess the carol, I’ll take a shot instead.
Enjoy the video!

I had an 81 Squire by Fender maple fingerboard SB alder with a wonderful grain. The pups were exceptional, I rue the day I got rid of it
It got real chilly on that bridge, such beautiful sounds as always Martin, you sir are such a feel kind of player. Thank you Martin
Wow that original ‘61 looks amazing
Regardless of how much they cost, any Fender Stratocaster or stratocaster style guitar with a maple neck is ALWAYS going to sound better than one with a maple neck and rosewood fingerboard. And it will look infinitely better too!
Gee.. ! I could really hear that , the red '61's tone dripped with specal sweetness absent in the ri , The difference is the difference , and THATS the difference , great playing by the way...👌
A big String Difference here
Fucking shit Martin is a master player. The AVII was close but impossible to compare to an actual vintage 61
Thank you for the positive feedback 😊
Great guitar & playing. What is the set up ?- Love your tone 👍
It sounds insanely well! amazing!!
Wish I had kept my first electric guitar. It was a Japanese Sakai SG / strat hybrid. SG style body, stratocaster style pickups, control knobs, neck and head. Beautiful black to red burst finish. The guitar was absolute rubbish to play. Action was way too high - didn't understand about how to set up guitars when I was a child. But the thing did hold tune pretty well and it did produce a very unique sound. Would have been great for slide playing. Was purchased with a little 10 watt Japanese Coronet amplifier. Sold both to a mate when I upgraded to a "real" guitar, an Ibanez Roadstar.
Some very nice runs. Really making that LP cry like a baby, exactly the way it's meant to be played.
I have a mid 1980s MIJ Fender '57 Re-issue Stratocaster that looks very similar to this one. Main difference is a smaller head and 1957 decals (as per 1957 model). It originally had a white single ply scratch plate which was replaced with a black-white-black three ply one. I also had it customised with a new pickup switching system to produce a lot more pickup combinations than the stock model. It is an absolute beast of a guitar. The early to mid 1980's MIJ Fenders and some Squiers were incredible value for money when new. And vintage ones in excellent condition still are! Cheers.
The secret to great chorus isn't just the Chorus effect device itself, it is what you feed it. Single coils for that really glassy sound, Humbuckers for fat and lush sounds. Acoustic guitars that are mic'ed up can also produce rich lush sounds. The string gauge can also affect how thin or thick the final sound ends up. And ALWAYS use extra compression. Many Chorus pedals provide a bit of compression but feeding a Chorus effect with a compressed signal will produce a much more professional sound. So more often than not Compression pedal before Chorus pedal. Cheers,
I would second the comment about it being a 1998 model. The fretboard is a lot darker than the typical 1980s Rickenbackers. It sounds like you are running it through a Chorus effect of some sort which colors the classic clean RIC 12 sound a bit but not necessarily in a bad way. It's just that I can produce a very similar sound out of a Fender Stratocaster or Telecaster running it through a Chorus pedal or a Jazz Chorus amp. The overdriven sound is great though. Cheers from the Land Down Under.
Nothing like it
"Scottish noises" lol maybe so but the guitar noises are outstanding!
I wonder how they would sound using the same nut, saddle and strings on both guitars?
Burly
Nowadays, The body itself is the kind of style you enjoy, then it’s honestly the Pickups and preamp system that matters (barely)
Hi great video I have exactly same model early 82 JV. I bought this guitar 8 years ago and it's great instrument! I am on mission to get 62 reissue with rosewood fingerboard. Regards from Glenrothes Scotland.
Yes, yes the guitar is good, but there's some magnificent playing going on here. Love those clean ambient rhythm parts in the beginning and the woman tone is godly at the end. Guitar matched to the guitar player. Excellent video.
Many many thanks for your kind words. Glad you liked the video 😊
Some fingerstyle would really give us an idea of how it sounds.
Oh yeah baby. Dont turn into Hetfield now. 😊
Duesenberg ❤
it s muffled the cheap one, and sounds muddy
I got a 59 Les Paul with custom buckers and I agree
gibson is a scam. you can do better.
Great playing on great guitar!
@MartinWaughGITA Never heard anyone get such a pure Strat sound out of the bridge p/u. The Boss box made it hard to really tell . . .
Hello, good guitar , what is the difference between TW5 TW4 and JAVA TWJDCE thanks for videos
I picked one of these up in Viking red a few months ago. A light aged one. It’s an astonishing instrument that feel so comfortable in the hands. There’s some kind of magic Murphy Labs work into their necks. Forget about the relicing argument. I get it, some people don’t like their guitar with dings and lacquer cracking from new, but Murphy Lab guitars feel so much better than their standard counterparts. This is the second one I’ve bought. I have a 59 Les Paul, which feels and sounds miles ahead of the standard ones.
What is the name of the second one?
The black one has more bass. That's the winner.
What it's all about. Pouring one's self into a responsive, weighty, essential guitar and having deft, pure music come forth. The perfect vessel for your expression. You need to own this!
I just want to play U2 on that guitar
NICE TO HEAR HOW IT SOUNDS BEFORE I BUYER IT
do you remember what is the resistance value of your pickups in the original 1961 strat? also which capacitor do you have? 0.1uf red dime one? or something else?
When you switch back to custom shop use the tone knob that’s what they’re there for. Lol. Greatdemo & playing. & it’s instantly better cause you’re Scottish.
Cheers John😊
Unbeliavable playing!!
The sound system is so good 😂😂
Holy moly compression
I reacted very similarly the first time I played an explorer. Middle position with the same exact chords. Then once it hit the bridge went full on riff mode.
I tripped over this site literally today I'm now on hour three, Maestro Waugh is the real deal Stratomaster. He pulled every last one of those sounds that only can be made on a fender stratocaster. Martin's playing is unreal and a real treat to be able to enjoy, what a truly accomplished player and such a terrific and joyful personality.
Marco, those are really kind words, blessings to you, fella .😊
Is it the camera that immensly compress the sound or a pedal? It can’t be real🤦🏻♂️🙏🙏🙏❤️. Btw, this guy is one of my fav guitar player.
Many thanks for the kind words. The compressor is a Dinasorual, UK country build. No other compressor used post edit. Glad you like it😊
Phenomal instrument and a great player ! Heaven !
Many thanks for the kind words. 😊
which is more natural sounding if i use more of finger style including lead but no blazing solos
Thank you fellas 😊
2:40 = exactly like my experience 😀
Who is he ?
Martin Waugh 😊
I think Explorers had a futuristic edge but its roots are firmly planted in the 50s... loved them to bits!
