Spirit Sojourning Homestead
Приєднався 1 січ 2014
After years of the 9-to-5 grind, we wanted something different-something more aligned with the earth and our values. Here on 20 acres in Arizona, we’re learning to live with nature, grow our own food without pesticides, and build a healthier, more intentional life. Our channel documents the realities of off-grid living, from adobe building and permaculture to tiny house living and van life. This is about reclaiming control, living simply, and connecting deeply with the land.
We also share travels, yoga videos, and the reality of our life - trying to stay true to a yogic path while interacting with the world.
J is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance holding certifications as E-RYT 200, as well as IIN Holistic Health Coach Training. She is also a Reiki Practitioner and Sound Healing Facilitator and lots more but that's all to share for now :)

@@ArizonaOffGrid we’ve seen a rattlesnake or two out on the road but they weren’t nearly as big as this one! It’s exciting. Snakes are cool, they just pass thru and carry on :)

I dream of a world where everyone likes to trade and barter again
@@theALPHAbeteer yes!! 🙌
Speaking as former military and one of the grunts that had to put these up, in the future, 2 things will help greatly. A Jeep or truck with 4x4 and a winch if available, AND a pair of cripple jacks (can be made from 2x4's) to help you with the lifting of the weight as you raise the center supports. Attach them to stable legs so that you can move them back and forth, and if you get really fancy, make the top an arch to let it move smoother. But a come-a-long and or a winch on a vehicle lets the vehicle do the heavy lifting and you can just move the supports inside as you lift it.
@@GregAlanEdwardsEmmanuelRidge WOW thank you Greg. We will definitely take this advice for next time! Trystan will be delighted to hear what you have to say. Thanks for checking out our vid :)

Work in early morning and late evening, someone suggested electrolytes and protein if you can tolerate them; and if you have allergies to dust and/or pollen take an allergy pill. It all takes time, hang in there.
@@kimg8098 yes, time! Adjustment for sure. Early am is wonderful working time out here :) thanks for the comment!
Yours is the first video I've seen of this, and it's common up north here. Thanks for sharing!!
@@imahappy420 I was wondering what else there was of people living like this! I haven’t seen these tents utilized in any off grid videos I watch. Where up north?
Electrolites and protein helps alot with the fatigue, dehydration, muscle soreness and brain fry. At walmart, you can get big cylinder containers of Gatorade powder. also equate brand individual protein shakes, comes in a 12 pack. Its actually cheaper than big powder containers, plus you're not using up your drinking water. Both of these are shelf stable. Keep looking to the freedom when you're feeling rough, you'll adjust!! You're doing amazing things!! Edit: Obviously there's more organic versions of these but I mentioned these products because you can get them faster and cheap, and it saved my butt out in slabcity
@@Bellllllz thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! I was not one to eat much meat, but out here it REALLY helps sustain my energy. I’m moving way more and I gotta eat way more lol. And yes to electrolytes!! Every day!
So happy for y'all!

Oh my gosh,I think you should setup the structure and then put the tarp just saying ❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@brunildaarroyo383 I know but it was rushed based on when we could get help out here
Unfortunately those military canvas tents have to be setup in that order. The weight is unbelievably heavy on the tarp.
@ yep!
Sorry so long. Your terrain looks similar to mine. I've been glamping while I remodel a 150 yr old adobe. There are no water lines yet, a generator for electricity. In September, I went around a corner and ran into 3 rattlesnakes sunning themselves. I backed out like the roadrunner!! Meep meep! 😂 30 years of paying rent, and in a sad chain of events, i inherited the properties. So here i am, listening to coyotes and watching out for the wildlife. I was told to plant lavender and garlic in strategic areas. Will be doing that soon. I have 2 siamese cats, so no mice around, or I'd be freaking out. Spiders, lots of spiders, big ones, ugh. My lawn mowers go moo loudly. But I think it will get better in time, so it's worth the struggle. I got to see the Aurora borealis from my backyard, and ahh that sky at night is amazing. Keep your head up, and afternoon siestas help. Sending love and light to help you all with your journey. Will be following you.
@@Di3-z hi! It sounds like we do have similar terrain. Are you in Arizona? We have looked into planting garlic & lavender as well! What areas will you be planting yours? We’re really big into companion planting/learning permaculture. We get big tarantulas, but I don’t mind them. They just go about their business :)
@spiritsojourning I'm in New Mexico in Santa Rosa area lots of heat and good dry clay. I'm doing a major garden out back, and patio planting in front of main house. Will be getting fruit trees put in late February in the front property. I'm hoping. Water is still the problem, but working on it. Have a great day. 👍
@ amazing!! I like that area. Good luck with your fruit trees. We had to wrap wire all the way around and up the tree because some critter ate out three year old fig tree all the way down to the stump 🥲 let us know what you end up doing with your water situation! Swales are an awesome start:)
What kind of conversion do you think we should do with the shipping container down the line?!
u figured it out! Legs in place then roof section. Too awkward all in one piece. Cool tent!
Yes! And pushing the legs til they were standing upright instead of trying to push from the top section to get it in line! We can’t wait to show you all what we’ve done to the inside 😍
Hi pretty lady ❤, I wish I was there , I Love the van life
Women tend to talk excessively, more building less talking.
Maybe you shouldn't have watched a sit down talk video then! We have plenty of videos of our build. Perhaps you should take your own advice...
How rude you are. Other people enjoy them.
@@spiritsojourning what you are doing is amazing and keep up the good work.
@ thank you!
The wildlife has to get used to yall being there, they'll eventually move on unless they find food, look and see if their marking their territory around your place you'll smell it if they are, we always sprayed bleach or vinegar over their sprayed areas, throw mothballs around your tent for the rats / mice, heads up on getting a cat and dog their an easy food source to big cats and they'll come around just for them if food is limited.
Good point about the territory marking! I haven't smelled anything, but there are some coyote dens nearby. We've only seen one coyote, so I'm not sure if the den is active, but they definitely pass through here. We keep an eye out for fresh tracks nearby too. That's the nice thing about our land - you can see what's been around usually :) we just got two kittens - we only let them out during daylight, and bring them in an hour before sunset since that tends to be hunting time for the coyotes and such. Any other tips you have, we'd love to hear them!
What’s been the toughest adjustment you weren’t expecting?
Hmm I'd have to say what continues to be the toughest adjustment is the climate. Summers are HOT and winters can be really cold at night. Once we have air conditioning, I don't think it'll be that difficult, but right now I am at the mercy of the elements! It can be very challenging and draining.
That’s a sick set up. Can’t wait to see more
@@jamesvandenheuvel9644 thanks James!! You found us :)

It takes a little while to get used to your enviroment. I live in a cabin in a rainforest and at first all the sounds and animals were daunting but after a bit of time you get used to it and know what is a threat and what is not. It's great to see you two taking the big leap and building an authentic life for yourselves. It's brave and smart to want to get away from the rent trap. All power to you.
Wow. I bet the sounds were overwhelming at first, but do you find them to be enjoyable now? I would guess it's strange to go other places and not hear all that wildlife! Thank you for your support, Mick. We really appreciate it. Not everyone will understand why it is such a worthwhile temporary discomfort/sacrifice. But we're hoping to foster a great community here in person, and on UA-cam to inspire more to get out of the awful rent trap. Talk soon I hope :)
@@spiritsojourning I really love to see young people stepping out of the box and coming to the place where they see that the "normal" is kinda toxic to a forfilling life. Before I lived here I was in a couple of communities . This place is just the three of us in three cabins in the forest (SE Queensland Australia) a mini community, permaculture etc... Before that I lived on my yacht sailing the pacific for eight years. When you guys look back in a year or so after the hardest part is done you won't belive how much you have developed as people and the skills and self-reliance that you have. It's so rewarding. I look forward to following your journey but I can already see that you have "the right stuff".
@ Yeah, thank ya! I think we got the right stuff too haha. Yep, it is toxic and sucks the joy out of life for us. It’s awesome to hear that you’ve been able to find a path that works for you. Pretty good camera work. Could be cleaner but still good for a dji mini
I thought it was impressive :,)
I feel if you were to hook a rope to the top and have a pully system or maybe even just use leg strength whike the other two anker base of the legs to hold them in place it would have worked alot easier
Believe it or not, we were told this would need 4 strong big men to set up, and could take 4-8 hours. We got it up in 3 hours between the three of us! It's an awkward big beast to put up, that's for sure. I'll have to ask Trystan what he thinks of your pulley idea!
