*at least one hour (usually) goes into making a game. Lots of game developers test their skills, whether in a game jam format or a self imposed challenge. In this video I set out to make a game in only 1 hour, and to add to the challenge I then have to finish the game and release it. (i need it to feel somewhat complete) It took me about 6-7 hours total from art to code to publishing. Join me a...

    yo , just saw you really see the comments I am making a free coop cartoonish fps game but wanted more people to try it how do I get people to know about my game I have a discord server with about 30 real members the first playtest was before yesterday , was a lot of fun , about 6 people joined in the same game how do I keep the server alive (knowing that the game takes time for updates) and get more people

      good question, I am going through a similar process myself. I think something that can help if keeping people involved in development, whether that is putting out a note about what you are working on even if it isn't "the new update is ready". And even asking questions about what people think about certain ideas. You still have to decide yourself and trust your gut, but the discussion may be engaging and people may stay excited about the ideas. I don't have to much to say because this is something I'm working through as well! Good luck!

    I released my first ever coding project/game on steam (it’s called “NugQuest”) for free a little over a month ago. I was shocked that I was able to hit the “10 review” threshold and get a public rating. It honestly gave me the motivation/confidence to work on serious projects, and to start a game studio. So that’s what I’m working on right now 😁 Videos like yours keep me going. Thank you.

      a lot of it relies on prior knowledge and additionally things that already exist (zelda, etc.) I think it is a small slice of a game and a bigger project with more ambition would definitely take more time! don't beat yourself up for it. Part of design and creation is the journey and it is all useful in some way or another, don't worry about timing too much

    Friends if pixel art is too hard, just learn 3d modeling and render it to pixel art! Sounds hard but actually I'm dumb asf and can do it, and i make games! If u never done any coding, look at scratch or construct 3 and figure out how to get a square to move, then you'll understand the basic concepts and can move on to engines or just programming in general, gl ❤❤

      I don't think so, I think i really started taking it seriously when i was 19 and I still have a lot to learn at 25. I think you can learn a lot if you apply yourself and you can have lots of fun if you keep projects small and work your way towards larger things slowly. I think any time is a good time to start. Additionally, you probably have only lived a quarter of your life or something similar. you have hopefully at least 3 more times that to do whatever you want. Think of being a baby till now, and think of what you could accomplish with another 20 years!

      @@dogma.questlog I am trying to build 3d combat / card activated games, like an animated 3d yugioh for example. What’s a few small projects you would recommend for building up to building a real game? I have some ideas but would love to hear your input

    • @dogma.questlog
      @dogma.questlog 24 дні тому

      I think some smaller card type games would eb good, even recreating a normal deck of cards to understand card structure and data, that kinda deal. As for the 3d thing, just getting 3d models in engine and animating would be good! I don't know what if any experience you have but always start super simple and often recreating things that already exist is a good refereence. Like make your own solitaire or something like that, make a game with multiple card hands, etc. I you need online, work on small online projects just to move things around or exchange data to get the hang of it

    I started a couple of times trying to make games, and each time, I would hit a roadblock and ultimately stop. I have recently started trying again, but with a different mindset. I am not really aiming to start by making the game I want to make, but just making tiny games with a single attribute to the overall game. Also, I just started a course so that it is more structured and I am able to ask people in real time.

    Really nice video. I'm currently doing game dev in a lot of my free time, and one issue I have is having trouble following through on ideas due to picking one of excessive scale/scope. Sometimes I work on a project for weeks before realizing this. But I'm learning a lot, and many of the components I have built have applications across a lot of game types. Fun video and it's encouraging stuff. Any advice on defining scope such that you can actually finish a project?

      I struggke with it too, I tjink it's definitely something you learn over time, but I would say making a design document can help. Try to outline the main mechanics and what you want from them before you start coding or making art. You can plan certain things in or cut stuff if it's too much all on paper.
