Aurelian felt like the culmination of the whole series up to this point. All the chads, wojaks, soyragers, and idealgfs led up to the perfection of Aurelian.

I feel like he really did salt the earth but it was mostly just a symbolic display and limited to some governor's private garden AND likely didn't have the "permanent" effect they intended. (The salt diluted to nothing in a few months.)

When is anyone in this book not wet, running and hunting in the darkness for skunks, and coons!!! No peace or warmth. When does John Wesley eat? Desperate poverty.

Once I had a dream that I shielded Aurelian with my own body, getting stabbed to death in the process. Restitutor orbis survived. As I was bleeding out in his arms, I whispered with my dying breath: "Restitutor Orbis. Roma invicta." Cried like a bitch once I woke up.

Ok, Aurelian saved your precious Rome. Was it worth it? His own people betrayed and murdered him as they did with Caesar, Majorian and many others. There is no point in serving states and empires. True human freedom exists only in stateless and barbarian societies.

That demand for the 500 Punic children is a sick burn since that's how many children they were known to sacrifice to ba'al. It's like saying "Rome is your god, now. We know what you like to give to your gods."

Carthage did not refuse the terms and "call for war" -- the terms were a complete death sentence to their civilization, and could not possibly be accepted, and the Romans knew it. Carthage had already handed over all their weapons. They _begged_ the Romans not to attack Carthage. And it wasn't all kicked off by a border or territory dispute -- Massinisa was raiding Carthage and stealing prime farming land, with impunity as a Roman ally. Carthage appealed to Rome to intervene multiple times, and Rome refused. Rome was looking for an excuse to commit incredibly thorough genocide.

Something doesn't make sense Rome sent under 100K to Delenda Carthage but over 100K to fight the Dacians .... the difference between these 2 campaigns are around 50K more soldiers sent to destroy Dacia , were Dacians actually a bigger challenge than Carthage ?

The merchant guild were never the fighting sort of barbarians and it wasnt really their land and they had a way lower birthrate that Italy aaand they didnt include the indigineous. You can see where this is going.

Scipio Aemilianus is Scipio Africanus Grandson. The treaty that Carthage cannot raise an army was stipulated on the basis that Rome would protect her borders. Rome failed to meet that requirement.

That part about shooting the skunk made me think about the old folks saying that if you shoot a skunk, you better hope you shoot them dead. That they won’t spray if they die immediately. I don’t think I ever want to test that up close. Haha

In some ways perhaps, but many of the policies Diocletian and Constantine himself were credited for - began with Aurelian. Dude did more than just fight, he seemed to understand a homogenous religion was needed for strong imperial cohesion. He also had to unjack the money system which was debased thoroughly before and during Gallienus' reign.

You have the right to all this hatred against Hannibal and his people, who insulted you the worst of insults Hannibal ad portas 😂😂 barbarians, who do not know the craft of the ship of the Phoenicians, who taught you its craftsmanship, and alphabet, trade, agriculture and politics Don't forget yourself, barbarian, when Carthage was in its glory and progress, there was no Rome on the map, you were just savages living in mud and wood huts
