Can Helldivers 2 make the biggest comeback in gaming history?
Helldivers 2 has been, simultaneously, Sony's biggest success and ooooff in a very long line of attempts to try to enter the multiplayer scene with a successful franchise of their own. Earlier in 2024, to the surprise of everyone, they launched what can arguably be the best cooperative online multiplayer experience in years. The gameplay was addictive and fun, the updates were consistent (although some were not that great) and the community rallied together under the banner of managed democracy. This game was everywhere on social media, the merch was selling like pancakes and the cash was flowing... And then, Sony, did what it does best with its multiplayer titles, and screwed up big time.
By introducing a very unsolicited PSN account linking, then backing down and eventually blocking access to thousands of players in more than 180 countries worldwide, Sony's PC player base tanked far away from the mighty 458,000 players down to 30,000 as of the recording of this video. The review bombing was of a nuclear level. The community was pissed and for a good reason. All that good aura that developer Arrowhead had racked up in the span of a few months went out just like that by a bad... what I'm talking about, it wasn't bad, it was a disastrously blind decision of the corporate overlords back at Sony HQ.
Up to this day, I still can't think of any other videogame in recent history, that screwed up so badly. I just can't. Developer Arrowhead tried to gain back the community with some key updates and balancing updates, but nothing seemed to work.
Until now. All of that might change starting August 6th, 2024 with the release of the first major update to the game: Escalation of Freedom.
I've been playing at least once a week with my friends since the fallout of the game, but guys, being honest. I'm hyped. I might not be very objective here, but this update looks amazing. There's this giant Impaler that lurks in the ground and attacks you as you're trying to escape. DOPE. Chargers, now come with spores that cloud their surroundings. OH NO. Automatons have upgraded their tanks and they shoot rockets now??? YIKES. Brood Commanders got the alpha treatment. MMM OK?
But probably the most important update is the level 10 difficulty with more enemies and larger outposts for the 380mm orbital stratagem users to rejoice with apparently, some new rewards if you can clear them? I don't know what this Terminator head is all about but sign me in.
The new spooky swamp looks awesome but I think this is a miss and could've been saved for a Halloween event.
Storms will be a pain in the sacks of libertea as the armor for both you and your enemies gets reduced.
There are new fun missions to play, one that has to do with this human-sized ninja blender that ah... is making helldiver pulp... OH GOD. But wait a minute, wait a minute, we're going full Death Stranding mode by kidnapping larvas and babysitting them while we try to face off the angry Terminid parents association until we can extract? LET'S GOOOO
But, as hyped as I am, there are still some issues that need to be taken care of. The 3rd race of enemies is still nowhere to be found after a very unsatisfying climax where we blew up a planet. I mean, it is a nice looking black hole, but... that's it. Balancing and content updates need to be better paced as we went from weekly to monthly-ish updates that are kinda mid. But most importantly, a fix to the blocking fiasco that has led thousands of players stranded that have already bought the game. Sony, you need to do better. A LOT BETTER. What are your thoughts on Helldivers 2? Will they make a comeback? Sound off in the comment section, thank you for watching and I'll see you later for a new video here on the V-Side.

tbf the incen breaker was the best bug weapon in the game and had a super high usage rate, somewhere like 30-40%. they did the best route to nerf it which was to reduce its ammo cap which makes things more interesting then if they just nerfed its damage or something. now you gotta pick between a weapon with good ammo and decent damage or a weapon with a low ammo count but really good damage.

@@comic_the_ace Yeah im fine with that personally as its still viable, ammo lies literally everywhere. Im fine with most of the nerfs...But the flamethrower? Nope. Absolutely not. It was fine as it was, it could kill chargers and the smaller bugs but didnt do squat against the bile titan, which was fine as i would concetrate on smaller enemies and the chargers and my friends with AT would kill the biles....Now i guess im forced to take the AT because just yesterday i was juggling 3 chargers alone because i didnt take any AT option. I dont like the fact i have to be locked into using certain weapons, theres no fun in that whatsoever. Breaker incen nerf is fine. Flamethrower is not.

I am a huge fan of Ghost of Tsushima, finished the game on the PS4 soon after it came out... but never picked up the Iki expansion as I thought I would one day make the jump to the PS5 and thus get it like that through the director's cut there. However, my gaming days have somewhat come to a halt meanwhile, as I am travelling a lot in South-East Asia. So... as I come from Busan, would you recommend I go to Iki island or Tsushima first? The final straw that convinced me that Selene did intentionally swerve onto the river was her reaction when she “saw” the astronaut, she quickly widened her eyes and my interpretation is that she did that because she made the snap decision to crash the car and kill Helios. A reach, I know but the theory works

  • @Electropylon

Great video! Maybe I missed it, but if we assume Thea was pregnant during her car crash, and that baby was born and was named Helios, how did he die (presumably, based on the crossed out face in the watercolor drawing)? Or did he die due to the accident, after the news article but before being born? And in that case, would the unborn baby's appearance as a child in the watercolor drawing Selene be explained as her imagination when she drew that? Also, is the boy with the crossed out yet readable name (Alex) in the dad-mom-son crayon drawing Selene's son (Helios)? If so, does he have two names; what's up with that?

I agree there is likely to be a 3rd DLC since there is no mention of a father, or male partner. I still lean towards the concept Theia is Selene's suppressed part of herself that she has refused to face or feel, and with regard to the Russian dolls, this could represent the layers of facade we have in general, Helios being the smallest because Helios being light is the truth, being the part that we feel love, which is why Selene mentions about them being hollow because she feels hollow herself as she continues to deny what the truth is in her search into herself. But I haven't analysed everything yet. Edit: Just found this in researching the name Theia: The name Theia has a fascinating origin. It is derived from the Greek word θεά (thea), which means “goddess”. In Greek mythology, Theia was a Titan goddess associated with light, glittering, and glory. She held the title of Titan of sight and was considered the shining light of the clear blue sky. As the consort of Hyperion, she bore three significant celestial offspring: Helios: The sun god. Selene: The moon goddess. Eos: The dawn goddess. This strongly pulls me towards agreeing with you now about Selene being a daughter... I mean it is literally word for word there in black and white that Selene is the daughter of Theia, brother to Helios, and Hyperion being the father, which the game says very little about at this point. I might have mentioned it in another video of yours but another theory I have, which you're welcome to elaborate on or discard is that Selene is actually commando from the game Risk Of Rain, and Xeos, and their species are actually the characters referred to in Risk Of Rain as Providence and Mithrix. This is just speculation right now, as I am building a diary of similarities and facts that link the 2 games together, but at this point, to say the least, the similarities are stacking up enough now to make me feel excited about whether or not the devs here might one day release downloadable content that might reveal indeed this whole game is perhaps some type of prequel to the Risk Of Rain story.

Hi, thank you for sharing your thoughts on this because it is interesting to draw dots together with other peoples ideas about the story of Returnal, especially when others mention new ideas, and agree to exactly some of the same conclusions I have come to as well. I have some feedback for those looking to hear some of the deep stuff I feel this story portrays. at 11:00 you begin explaining the 2 most important things Selene sets out to do for her soul in redemption which you start of by saying "to stop blaming herself for the death of Helios". This would not be a redemption process. The most important thing any one of us can do is to blame ourselves, which is the only way we begin to recognise how our actions have consequences which is then the only way we begin to develop a desire to be more loving and caring. If we stop blaming ourselves, we only end up having to repeat the same lesson until we do learn how every action we take does have consequences, and unloving actions have unloving consequences which I think can be argued is one of the points the developers make in producing this game. I think what you mean to say here however is to stop judging yourself as someone who is bad or evil for the actions that have lead to painful consequences. In this understanding, then yes, I absolutely agree that to accept what one has done that has caused e.g. others to die or suffer intensively is a step towards becoming at peace with ones own soul (container of feelings). I think you nail it with some points here that I didn't realise before like the Heterochromia we clearly can see Selene has being actually a scar, which you can see in the picture there is a clear line of scaring above and below her eye that is blue. I did also get a feel of "she's probably a mental health patient having these experiences" which you do mention also. I thought I was smart in doing a name meaning check for Selene, but again you've hit it on the head on the fourth part by mentioning about the greek mythology of their names. Selene = moon goddess. In all of this there's one thing stands out to me in the very last word Selene says in the second ending. She says "Helios", which at first makes me believe relates to her concern for her child, which remains relevant to this point: Helios is the god of the sun in greek mythology. I believe this means after merging with her memories that Selene buried for so long, along with all those negative traumatising feelings/emotions that come with the concept she is to blame for her sons death, she then became free from the cycle of pain she had inside of her soul. I think this is so true for all of us, how we suppress emotions rather than feel and face them because of being afraid of being punished, most of all by our own judgemental mind about how unloving we was or are, which only ends up keeping that pain inside of our container of feelings aka soul, which only ends up attracting to us via the law of attraction certain events that repeat similar events that all aim to trigger these suppressed emotions. Understanding that everything we experience is ultimately our fault, we then align to the truth from Gods perspective, and because truth = love = light, I can see this is what the devs have cleverly designed at the end as the light at the end of the tunnel as she emerges from this deep place within herself back to love, truth and light for her to feel Gods love again and to become back at peace again, which I think is something we all undergo the process of as to learn the big lesson in life: why living in harmony with our conscience is important. I think this is so profound this lesson because I think even in our spirit life, there are many who struggle to learn this even after being in dark places for thousands of years, as I have heard it be explained that when we die, we go to the spirit realm which is the place we visit every night anyway, but once there in our spirit body, we are given a place to live according to our soul condition and our body can degrade to the point flesh falls off it like seen with Theia which all depends on how much we resist what the truth is from Gods perspective and hold onto our own arrogant view points, which, because are lies from Gods perspective, we remove ourselves from Gods love and light in the process. Again, the devs understanding of this is made clear to me when they use the name Theia, meaning from one source found via google "goddess of light" which supports this by suggesting that Selene, who could be Theia has rejected herself in the effort to avoid feeling her pain hence rejected the truth (which is Theia being the light) which we can see Theia reaches out to Selene to confront her, but Selene in her disgust of Theia turns away. The most profound lesson from this story is: if you want to be free from pain, never avoid your pain, because there is always a lesson that pain is trying to teach you. My personal take of the story is that this is the emotional journey Selene undergoes in the effort to understand why she experienced what she experienced so she can find peace and release herself from her own self inflicted judgement. I believe it relates to so many people because I think almost everyone grows up bottling up emotions they don't want to face or feel, which they end up suppressing for so long, which causes them to forget memories. Doing this often makes us feel like an alien to ourselves and in some cases even becoming split in our mind as we continue to suppress and avoid our painful emotions, which is often done through escapism and addiction (such as computer gaming *cough*), but that's exactly why I think this is such a brilliant game. It brings people who have this desire to avoid reality, and then shows us a story of someones effort of self discovery being this very hard and difficult, scary, dark experience that gives this overall feeling of "struggle" that we feel is just too powerful to overcome, but shows us that if we do face our painful negative emotions, we become free from the cycles of repeating either the same or similar traumatic events that get attracted to us in our every day lives via the law of attraction.

Maaann the Aftermath part teased the dlc so well, I got goosebumps. I really wish that it does come out. I can't take enough of this game, the story keeps going far deeper than anything I've experienced before

She's probably in a depression stupor, reconstructing aspects of her life but also imagining being a space explorer, while the more prominent events of her life invade on her fantasy. She might have gotten an abortion instead of having her son.

Selene had a car crash the same as her mother? She had a kid named Helios same as her mother? Noooo sense! I really hoped for answers beating this game a bunch of times and it's just purgatory or Selene is in a coma nightmare.

It wasn't intriguing. It was disappointing. The box says Break the Cycle, but you never get to. Chances are it's all in her head. And no ending offered any more explanation other than maybe a lit bit more explanation of the kinds of things that actually happened in her life. We still don't know what year it actually is, if the alien planet is real, etc.

This information is most likely going to be very important in DS2. And I don't think many people have worked all this out.

I think drawbridge will partially consist of any survivors of the rebel group of porters Coffin formed. Drawbridge name makes sense keeping the bridge up from bridges working.

Ah I was hoping it wouldn't fall under such a trope BUT at the same time what's given to us seems vague enough for an interpretation as her being already dead and in the process of "healing" as only one of many possible stories. Plus the gameplay is super fun and I like the symbolisms. I'm not familiar with all of it but I'm glad there are vids like this to help me understand more. It's hard and tedious for me to piece together lore bits from various sources in the game to create a more cohesive lore.
