Welcome to Sweet Home Saddlebreds! We are a small breeding farm located in the beautiful Mission Valley in Western Montana focused on producing strong gaited horses. Our primary bloodlines are derived from Sunset Commander. The principle stallion in our breeding operation, Sunset's Mighty Storm, is a grandson of both Sunset Commander and Courageous Admiral. Mighty is a linebred, powerfully built stallion designed to pass on the ability to rack and trot with the speed and precision of old time stake horses.

Sweet Home Sunset' s Legacy

This is a very sweet, kind young horse that wants to please. He is broke to drive and has been worked for trail and pleasure riding. He will also gait which is a nice option to have on a trail horse. He has been worked around cows and shows a lot of interest in moving them. If something new presents itself he will just plant his feet and study it rather than come unglued. This is a good thinkin...

Foundation bloodline for Sweet Home Saddlebreds stallion Sunset's Mighty Storm.
When I worked at Delaine Farm in the late 1970s, I cared for a mare by Sunset Commander. Her name was Commander's Admiration. My one criticism of her is that she had pea-shooter action. She was a sweet mare at home in the barn but turned into an angry beast at the shows.
My foal (colt) was a grandson of Wing Commander. He was gorgeous.
Beautiful (poetry in motion), rare & very valuable footage enhanced by your insightful personal commentary on your Father, his special career & other key observations ( the horse's fluid gait, the power/conformation & other qualities an insider would come to understand and observe. I was only somewhat dismayed by the music's volume (and though a tremendous classic, I was distracted from both the visuals & your delightful commentary, well-modulated voice, clear enunciation, obvious love of horse & special rider). The musical rhythms don't echo or match the regular gait rhythms (try Baroque next time) and though the music served as transition between non-narrated segments, those of us who are learning to better perceive & understand what's both clearly before us (a terrific Saddlebred) & useful description, those immortal notes weren't necessary for this viewer. How lucky you were!! and many thanks for sharing this with We Saddlebred lovers!
I have shared this all over FB..sent to friends...I love this and cannot believe I had not seen it before now.
Thank you for posting this
That last stud was stunning. Fantastic hocks
This is wonderful, sharing on Saddlebred Spotlight right now.
I think I groomed a daughter of Sunset Commander when I worked at Delaine Farm in the late 1970s. The mare's name was Commanders' Admiration, and she won the Mare Gaited Stake at Rock Creek the year before before being purchased by Delaine Farm.
Thank you for this important and historic view of a great horse, and the outstanding bloodlines behind him. His shoulders were outstanding, and enabled the length of his stride, and the coordination of his front and rear angulation.
And the rider is??
pretty! Like the music!!
Beautiful animal! He's high on himself, huh? Excellent!
Hey Deanna, Thanks for the comment. I'm glad you like him. I was going to tell you to go take a look but you found him already. He is barefoot and never had anything on him at all. Can only guess what shoes could do. :o) Cynthie
